I'm ok with a red light district if it's heavily regulated (taxed, disease screening, logging for the sole purpose of disease control)- no pimps but high security (for protection of both parties)

I'm ok with casinos as long as its run by OLG, has the same type of taxation and maintains a high level of class

Good for them. You can't expect people to pay if all they have is a $20 bill and they need change. People are in a hurry, they can't wait 5 minutes for the collecter to get back.

It's pretty unprofessional of them, but sometimes you spot a booth without a collector and it's your lucky day.

edit: It is a BEAUTIFUL day out today.

Never been, but what's so wrong with a club attached to the casino?
I had really good experiences in Vegas with the attached clubs there.

About the casino. Not on the waterfront. It's too pretty there for some mega complex like that. They can stick it in Woodbine. Would be better to really screw Casino Rama anyway. Sorry Rama First Nation the city needs the money.

But really the city should get a massive amount of tax out of this if it's to go ahead. There's no point if all the money goes to the province and the feds.

In any case casinos don't seem like they have much of a future. I think the older generations have a Bond style vision of the glamour of gambling in a casino but younger people would rather play poker online or something.

Maybe they could build a rehab clinic right next the Casino. And yeah, definitely not on the waterfront. We don't need depressed drunks wandering around there at night.

I've seen collectors go away (usually between buses) to go to the bathroom and no other reason.

At my station people still pay though.. most don't even look to see if a human is there as they go in anyway.

If people are going to lose their money gambling, they may as well do it in Toronto where we can put the tax dollars to use fixing infrastructure and building transit.

Also, the CNE runs a casino while it's in town for 15 days of the year. Why not make it look like it was built in this century and run it year-round?

And/or, if Ontario Place is converted into a full-suite resort area, a Casino could give it new life among adults and non-family people, who represent a fair share of the tax base in this city, too.

Some losers jumped out of an Indigo in suits and formal wear and freaked out: "Oh my god, it's so chilly!"

I strolled by in my t-shirt and shorts and chuckled.

a) It's Toronto. 16 degrees is beautiful and balmy.

b) I, personally, always feel stuffy and overheated in formal wear. One of them had a jacket on top of the suit and was freaking out about the cold too.

Really?!

Dude tell me about it. It's 14 right now and beautiful, and I went out today in a T-shirt. I've gone downtown before when it was below 10 and I was fine. That day I also saw people in winter coats and wool hats, I couldn't believe my eyes. Toronto has some pansies.

We haven't bashed Ford in a while.

Quote:
Ford won’t attend rainbow flag-raising event at city hall Thursday

A crowd is expected at city hall for a rainbow flag-raising event meant to highlight the fight against homophobia but one notable absence could steal the spotlight on Thursday.

Mayor Rob Ford won’t be attending the annual PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friend of Lesbians and Gays) ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Organizers invited Ford but he said he couldn’t fit the event into his schedule.

Thursday’s event marks International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

And for the second-straight year Ford will be a no-show at the Pride parade on July 1. The mayor said he won't stray from tradition and will be spending time with his family at his Muskoka cottage. He hasn’t said whether he’ll attend any Pride events during the 10-day festival that runs June 22-July 1.

...

He was invited back in March for today's event but said it wouldn't fit into his schedule. In all fairness though, they did schedule it in the middle of his lunch hour.

If you don't mind walking over to Portland/Queen across from the Loblaws there's a cafe that serves alcohol called the Tequila Bookroom. I've been on dates there.

It's pretty chill in there and you can have a conversation without the crowd drowning you out at the Black Bull.
