Survival Horror fans take note - Amy coming to PSN this Summer (Inspired by ICO) #1

I usually don't start up threads on neogaf, but as a survival horror fan, I have come to appreciate this awesome looking title that may end up being the best horror game no one has heard of. I noticed older threads containing bits of information, but this deserves its own thread.

Amy is a survival horror game that was partly inspired by none other than ICO, and the project is being designed by none other than Paul Cuisset, the creator of the beloved classic Flashback.

The game is out now on both PSN and XBLA for the price of $9.99.

Even though I am a hardcore Silent Hill fan, this graphically looks cleaner than the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour - even the facial animations look better. The funny part - this is a downloadable title that will cost a fraction of Silent Hill: Downpour's price.

Check out this interesting preview courtesy of the US PlayStation blog: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...n-this-summer/

Also, here is a short video showcasing how your character's "infection" begins to appear in-game. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TMhtH4HiLE

Paul Cuisset and the guys at VectorCell are really working hard and we all want to make sure the game is well tuned and that the overall gameplay experience is there, equally on PS3 and X360.
Edit: The game is out now, and even though I paid for it on the PSN knowing very well how bad it may be, it is really unfortunate it came to this. The game looked really promising, and I hope Vectorcell learns from the mistakes of this experience and delivers a much better horror title in the end. It would be nice to see a good downloadable horror game herald more.

Good to see Paul Cuisset is still working, Flashback may be a long time ago but I'll bet its very fondly remembered, especially by Euro-Gaffers.

I hope so as well. Though this one seems like it has more going for it than hydrophobia, and the previews all seem to praise the game thankfully.

Agreed. The developers say that is should launch by the end of the summer. Game is expected to be 8 hours long.

No, I actually searched, and nothing has been mentioned regarding the game for a while outside of small mentions in PSN threads. Besides, this might as well act as the official thread until the game comes out.

inspired by ico doesn't really do much for me, I hope they take some cues from Siren and Silent Hill (the latter is pretty apparent here)

I love horror games so I'll get this if it's any good. fucking psn, still waiting on Beyond Good and Evil HD. Project Dust will probably be xbla exclusive for a few months too

I'll be damned, I did not find this :0 Well I hope the new preview warrants its own thread. To be honest, I just feel like the title I put up is more detailed about what the game is rather than "PSN/XBLA/PC/Maybe NGP "Exclusive" Announced: Amy" - with no offense to the OP creator of that thread at all. I just feel that it is easy to skip a thread which only mentions a title and potential platforms.

Price is expected at 13 dollars I believe - maybe 10 bucks with PS Plus? The length is expected to be around 8 hours.

I still hold Condemned (the first one, of course) as the scariest game I've ever played. Much scarier than Silent Hill and Resident Evil etc, although I am still a huge fan of both those titles.

Yeah, there's been jumpy scares in games since (Dead Space comes to mind) but Condemned 1 had me absolutely shitting myself in that Apple Orchard Farmhouse. Other than that, I remember my leg shaking whilst playing the original Silent Hill.
If a game can do that to me, it's worth it's price tag.
Give me more survival horror. I'd love a new Condemned, even though the last half of 2 threw everything down the shitter. I've not played a game since with such fantastic first person melee combat.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Amy.

It is sad. I wish the genre had more games coming. This one at the very least looks like a very interesting one. Some interesting recent horror titles that you might have missed by the way are both for PC: Amnesia: Dark Descent and Black Mirror 3.

As for upcoming horror-themed games, we have a few things to look forward to, here is a list I compiled from what I know is coming:

FEAR 3 (Horror FPS - PS3/360/PC)
Resident Evil Revelations (3DS)
Resident Evil Code Veronica HD (PS3/360)
Silent Hill Book of Memories (Vita)
Silent Hill Downpour (PS3/360)
Silent Hill Collection (PS3)
Aliens: Colonial Marines (Horror shooter - PS3/360/WiiU/PC)
The New Adventure of Sherlock Holmes: The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (May have horror elements, PS3/360)
The House of the Dead Overkill: Extended Edition (PS3) Horror themed arcade shooter
Rise of Nightmares (Kinect-only for 360, questionable game though :/)
Un-announced Xseed localized horror game for PSP
Chucky (based on the Chucky horror films :/ PS3/360)
Metro: Last Light (Horror-themed shooter, PS3/360/WiiU)

and the big daddy of them all, Bioshock Infinite (PS3/360).

It looks really great, and any new survival-horror is more than welcome considering it's a neglected genre right now. For me though, its release is somewhat overshadowed by the fact that Silent Hill: Downpour is out a mere month later.

So... will it be on any other platforms apart from PSN? (there is a lot of confusion surrounding its exclusivity, unless it's somehow exclusive to all platforms..)

If a Steam release is on the cards, i'd rather go for that.

The concept sounds interesting, but the trailer didn't really tell me much apart from the fact that it uses a lot of complicated sounding tech. They really should have shown more gameplay/story in a first trailer.

And may not be as good or unique as this game lol

That video, while lacking game play, does show some cool tech they are doing. It's looking really good for a PSN title.
