Actually, afterthought: Is it possible that the reason we're either getting dull real-world tracks rather than tracks like Spa and Bathurst is because of texture memory? If you think about it, custom tracks can use however many or as little textures as they want. If something takes up too much, they can take it out or replace it with the same textures as another building. Can't do that with a real-world track as people will notice.

Alps looks like good fun and a graphical feast, and Infineon looks like a nice flowing track with some good elevation changes. But Hockenheim is flat, dull and unremarkable. Indy's infield is even worse, plateau-flat again with even fewer points of interest of redeeming features. It truly is an awful, awful track. And the TGTT is nothing more than a playground, not a racing circuit. When you look at what tracks could have (should have?) been included in FM4 you really do have to question at least three of Turn 10's selections, and wonder how heavily external factors or technical issues have influenced the choices. |

I'm guessing technical (see my post above). I doubt anyone that serious about driving/racing would pick such bland areas. Also worth considering given that Bizarre had to resort to streaming textures off disc rather than loading them all to memory at once.
BTW Are we getting Sebring back? Most of it was pretty boring, but taking that last corner flat stick and bumping over the concrete joins always felt awesome. |

saladine1 is playing with us. :D
BADNED confirmed Fujimi on his list a while ago. Turn 10 announced all the cut tracks yesterday, if FK was out, they would have said it then. |

Yeah, even though I was only halfheartedly asking about Sebring, I'm definitely glad it's in. The one in 3 was a little contrasty but after they deepen the colours a little I'm sure it'll look nuts. No inclines *is* a bit of a downer on that track, but the last straight and that last sweeping corner make up for it IMO.

Being a total video game nerd AND a car freak, there's no surprise that I've played pretty much all racing games that are worth mentioning, but most time I've of course spent with GT and Forza. Now, while the most fun I've had while not playing alone, is of course racing with a full lobby of friends. Nothing beats that. But while in singleplayer, the absolute most fun I've had with these games, is the first, initial hours/days. When you HAVE to spend money wisely, actually THINK about what upgrade you're going to buy, or save up for a new car instead.
Rewards like cars and loads of money is probably the best solution in the long run, since after a while, you want to experiment with new cars and setups, and for that you need a lot of cash if we're talking classes above, say A. But still, I know I'm getting a giant load of cars when I start FM4.. I've been at level 50 for a long time in FM3, I got almost all the cars from the "loyalty" list or whatever it's called.. So I know I won't have a hard time getting started. Of course I can somehow force myself into not spending the free cash or racing the free cars, but.. it's not the same thing, not at all IMO. So basically what I want to say, is that I'll miss the inital economy/strategy part of the game. The early GT-games were excellent examples of this, I can still remember racing the Sunday & Clubman cups, saving up for a R34 GT.-R.. Anyone else feel the same, or is everyone just eager to drive the fastest cars right away? |

I feel the same, even to that extend, where I like it more to drive slower cars. I really enjoy the feel of ownership that Forza gives me and that is somehow bigger with slower cars than with supercars.

Speaking of which, anyone thinks unlocking all the cars right away for single race is a mistake in game design ? i don't know, of course it's not nearly the same as having them in career (not paintable, upgradeable etc) but the reward would be bigger. i think you should only get a limited time with each car until you buy it. |

Unlocking all cars for single player is fine IMO, you can test any car you want that way and I think casual like that.
As for the importing thing, at first I would have said no but if the game is similar to Forza 3 in term of money then I'll take any free car to save some cash. Beside, if you're a VIP and pre-ordered FM4, you get 2 Unicorns (S204 and RX-7) from the start. Edit :

Can't even be gifted :/

On the point of having cars unlocked by leveling, I think that's just stupid. Atleast if we're talking having the cars locked in ALL modes.
Like the way it is now, were they are all unlocked, and drivable in STOCK form in Time trial - that is great, I mean if I buy a game, I should have access to the content I've PAID for.. Sure, you can't just give players all cars and upgrades for free in career mode, that eliminates most of the idea of having a career mode, but you should be able to race all cars on all tracks without being required to put in a huge ammount of hours beforehand. Which is what some games do, and it feels silly and stupid - so just because I buy the game, but don't have numerous hours each day to spend on the (which I do, thankfully), I am not entitled to race the cars that's on the disc, that I paid for? That's why I hate that companies have now stopped implementing cheats, and instead a few charge actual freaking money for unlocking things (very few do, but they exist). That's like selling a car that can't shift above 3rd gear, until you've driven it for 5000 miles first.. BUT, you can pay EXTRA and get that feature right away! |

Yep, absolutely agree that the unicorns are shit. Although, IIRC, at first they were supposed to serve the purpose of attracting cheaters that would bid on them like crazy only to get banned later.
I really have a feeling that the 14 cars will be real life unicorns this time. Things like the 250 GTO, the 250 TR, the Daytona Coupe, the DBR-1, the D-Type, etc... :/ BTW, I just noticed that Dan mentioned “Quick Race,” “Free Play,” “Split Screen” and “Multiplayer” in the Unicorn talk. Wonder what's the difference between quick race and free play. I hope one of those mode is an offline version of FM3's fake multiplayer used to get cash racing A.Is. |

heh, i guess it shows i am an old gamer.
risk and reward for me is still the basis of the concept of game, if i have to win a race to be able to drive a car i want, i will enjoy it a lot more. Cheats ruin games, but i understand gamers are not 12 years old kids with tons of spare time on their hands anymore. Btw, I am VERY HAPPY you apparently have to unlock some autovista cars (all?) by completing specific challenges. |
