So, I just answered that I'd "steal" one on the website and got a coupon for $1 off.
It's all just marketing. I think I will go buy one tonight if I can find one. It was nice discussing it with everyone though. Hopefully I didn't genuinely piss anyone off or ruffle any feathers. |

I'm not going to be an asshole and lift a dozen -- I'm going to take one. I'm genuinely curious and want to see if it's worth paying for the next time I see it in a store where it is sold in exchange for money. This is all in good fun with this company. Just now I answered on their website that I would be "disHONEST" and take one. I was rewarded with a $1 off coupon. They don't care whether or not you pay -- they want press and word-of-mouth advertising so you will remember the name and campaign. It's elegantly designed in the fact that the campaign, and resulting discussion, all centres around the brand name and what it implies in the context of the advertising campaign. They gave me a choice, neither of which had legal repercussions. Neither of the choices clash with my personal morals because I know that the teas are a sunk cost. The loss of any/all the teas in this advertising campaign aren't comparable to the revenue they hope to gain. (If somebody compares this shit to "Hey, if a girl is unconscious at a party, would you rape her if nobody would find out?" I will rage. That conflicts with my personal values and I wouldn't do it.) I am going to a food festival next week. I will be paying for samples because it is expected and legally outlined that you must pay in order to sample the food. If it were to be free or pay what you like, I would pay/tip if I enjoyed the food. The same applies here: I will repay the company later, if I deem their product to be one of high quality, by continued purchases and recommendations. |
