Has anyone actually tried this tea? I'm a bit of an iced tea addict, but I haven't tried this brand before. Bottled teas are always hit-or-miss. Usually miss.

They have the same powers as City cops but their jurisdiction is only near DART stations, trains, buses, and HOV lanes. (they can pull you over for speeding in an HOV lane)
As far as I can tell that stand isn't obstructing a Bus stop so there should be no reason for them to stick their noses in this.

I love it. It's quite light on sweet compared to most bottled teas. My favorite flavor, Morrocan Mint tea, has 17 Calories and 5 grams of sugar per 8oz.

Light on sweet sounds awesome. Too many companies over-sweeten their teas. Is it real sugar, or corn syrup though? Edit: After looking at their website, I think seeing "organic" everywhere was a dead giveaway that they use sugar. lol. Now I really want to find some of this.

Your theoretical actions would define you a thief and so you should be accepting of that definition. If the label rubs you the wrong way, you should be looking at ways to avoid meeting it rather than rationalizing around basic principles.

Claiming to 'be honest' in any regard means little if all it means is that you're honest whenever you're not dishonest. This is more for you than society at large. It's silly to reject some illusions in this world while maintaining similarly nonsensical ones about ourselves.
The whole "hook" of this marketing campaign is offering up tea for free and seeing if people will pay for it. How is applying real world laws to something nonsensical as a marketing campaign being realistic?

Are you here for a moral/social experiment or are you here to discuss a brilliant-if-flawed marketing campaign?

I think you and I are discussing two different things entirely. I'm arguing it's silly to ask customers to "buy a try" as part of what's essentially a product sampling.

So all people selling samples to build awareness are silly and deserve to be stolen from? I went to an entire festival where people paid for food samples before.

Fact is, some people are taking advantage because they don't think they will be caught. Nothing more or less.

So, I just answered that I'd "steal" one on the website and got a coupon for $1 off.

It's all just marketing. I think I will go buy one tonight if I can find one.

It was nice discussing it with everyone though. Hopefully I didn't genuinely piss anyone off or ruffle any feathers.

It's not a proper store. It's a faux-POP display stand with free shit.

It's not okay to take a crate from someone giving out samples.

It is okay to take shit from people telling you to take shit.

I'm not disagreeing with you, really.

I'm just saying that this campaign, and all the tea in it, are a sunk cost. Once they decided to allocate physical assets (the tea) to the campaign, they become part of the advertising budget for this product.

The company themselves have outlined, on the signs, that the teas at these stands cost $1, but say right next to it, "Honour System." If somebody says that, I'm going to take one. I'm not going to be an asshole and lift a dozen -- I'm going to take one. I'm genuinely curious and want to see if it's worth paying for the next time I see it in a store where it is sold in exchange for money.

This is all in good fun with this company. Just now I answered on their website that I would be "disHONEST" and take one. I was rewarded with a $1 off coupon.

They don't care whether or not you pay -- they want press and word-of-mouth advertising so you will remember the name and campaign. It's elegantly designed in the fact that the campaign, and resulting discussion, all centres around the brand name and what it implies in the context of the advertising campaign.

They gave me a choice, neither of which had legal repercussions. Neither of the choices clash with my personal morals because I know that the teas are a sunk cost. The loss of any/all the teas in this advertising campaign aren't comparable to the revenue they hope to gain. (If somebody compares this shit to "Hey, if a girl is unconscious at a party, would you rape her if nobody would find out?" I will rage. That conflicts with my personal values and I wouldn't do it.)

I am going to a food festival next week. I will be paying for samples because it is expected and legally outlined that you must pay in order to sample the food. If it were to be free or pay what you like, I would pay/tip if I enjoyed the food. The same applies here: I will repay the company later, if I deem their product to be one of high quality, by continued purchases and recommendations.

It absolutely is pure cane sugar, friend. And pretty solid other ingredients. All the flavors I've tried are really good. Peach Oolong, Mango White Tea, and Black Forest Berry are other favorites.

Fun fact, Black Forest Berry is Barack Obama's self-professed favorite.

To those saying it is being offered for free, nowhere does it say free tea. It plainly states $1 for tea.

I haven't seen the signage up close, but I'm certain there's a wink and a nudge in writing that says "it's okay to take it without paying, this is not an actual store".

The combination of the format, layout, and brand tell you it's a sampling venue and not an actual store you're stealing from.

The company WANTS people to take the tea whether they pay or not. The payment is just recoupment of their cost.
