Elderly black women. Middle aged white guys with European accents. 20s-30s Landscapers because I would bust my ass to fill their truck/mowers/gas cans fast so they didn't have to wait for 30 min in line like they would with the guy who worked the days I didn't. Almost never did I get tipped by anyone else. Oh well make more now tips or not.

If no delivery fee I'll tip about 10$ depending on what my change is/the price of gas. Driving a pizza somewhere doesn't take skill, but it takes gas and much more time/effort than walking 20 feet to the kitchen.

My friends and I tip heavily, in the 50% range, if the service is good. Especially if we're regulars. Once the staff gets to know us we never have to wait for a table (bypassing a 90 minute wait on Father's Day for example), are given extra attention, freebies, etc.
That said, I do not care for the default expectation of tipping. I think they're earned. It's not like I have a secret score card, but there are things I expect from the wait staff. Refills, checking on us regularly, getting the orders right the first time, etc. My biggest pet peeve though are built-in gratuities. I hate them. What motivation is there for good service if the reward is mandatory? If you're going to tack an 18% gratuity onto my bill then I'm not giving a penny more. And it lowers my general opinion of the establishment.

I must have helped at least a dozen people out to their car, loaded an entire cart's worth of groceries etc, the entire day I didn't get a single tip. Not one dollar, On Christmas day. All because the store said, no that's ok, be a cheapskate, you don't need to tip them. That's why we pay them $5 an hour. |
