Newcastle United - No Joey Around! #1

Fans of united, now that a former captain, top goal scorer, a calculating spandiard and a trouble maker have left the club its time to look forward to the new season with fresh eyes!
I can't wait to see what the new french players come in to bring with their flair and speed.
A position in the top 10 is a must this year after a rather dismal year was so full of promise. The priority must be to play attacking football and score through the midfield. Dominating the midfield means not giving the ball away, so no more room for Danny Guthirie. Not really sure about Dan Gosling but Sammy Ameobi is a real talent that could be a really good impact player as a super sub. As for the new striker, Demba ba, he's much better than Peter Lovenkrands and looks good to score. With so much stuff coming out of St James Park this year and the season hasn't even begun, this really promises to be the biggest and most exciting football team in the epl this year!!!

I think its bullshit how Barton has been treated.

They didn't want to sell him so he was happy to stay and says he is loyal.
Then they say he can go for free.
Barton says 'thanks for the loyalty guys' sarcastically (essentially).
Newcastle fine him two weeks wages for speaking his mind.

Ridiculous. He'd be welcome at West Ham. We need a bit more bite and drive in our midfield.

To be honest, I've barley followed the history of the epl other than watching the highlights program on SBS. Its only last year that I followed Newcastle through their whole season.

I've never had any doubt that they "are and can be" a top 4 club. They've done it before and they will do it again. Lots of new players, emerging talent and fantastic supporters will always outweigh the negatives.

I though Barton had lost his way at the end of last season. His kicking from free kicks and corners were poor and his delivery was all over the place. Not an A player but a B player.

Lots of new players? Make that 4 new players and 2 returning faces in Ben Arfa (who is injured again) and Gosling (who looks sharp). We've got rid of Nolan and will be getting rid of Barton and Enrique.

Top 4? No. Not while Mike Ashley and his munch bunch are in charge. Note that we had actual talent throughout the team back when we were last Champions League participants, as well as having Sir Bobby Robson in charge.

I was optimistic of our chances for next season but the lack of new transfers and the farce surrounding Barton and Enrique suggest we might be heading downhill again.

I think top four is beyond the reach of Newcastle for the next few years but top ten is a reasonable target for the next season.

But it is nice to see someone outside of England support a club outside of the "big four" especially because a Newcastle fan is a tough job these days.

Of all the clubs in the premier league, Newcastle have had the most damage done to their squad over the summer. Losing Nolan was big and losing Barton will be an even bigger loss.

If they don't pull in a few more hardened 'dig in' players than they'll be in a relegation scrap.

Where the fuck has that Andy Carroll money gone?

If you'd have told me last December that Carroll, Nolan and Barton would be leaving, I'd have said 'they are fucked'. Now its happening/happened.

I sincerely thought that you were being sarcastic. I cant for the love of god imagine how we could ever become something better then a mid premiership club(at best). With the current management. If we develop some talent, Mike will just ship it away and not put a cent of it back into the squad. A while ago it felt like we could have something interesting developing but the last months have just confirmed what we all knew about the management.

I have also finally understood that there will never ever be another number 9. Hold me GAF:,(

EPL is inaccurate too, as there is a Welsh team this season (Swansea) who will be my 3rd team (Liverpool>Bolton(family team)>Swansea(welsh)>ABU)

edit: Oh, just saw that OP thinks NUFC "are" a top 4 club. They'll be lucky to avoid the bottom half of the table. I'd say they're tipped for relegation with their shite squad.

joey barton's twitter feed is kind of disarming - he keeps quoting the smiths and george orwell like an eloquent 13 year old, which i suppose is above the average level of discourse for footballers, never mind people in jail with assault convictions.

Arsenal look to be a pushover as a top 4, Chelsea are no longer the hunter but the hunted, Man U got beat easily against Barca, Liverpool spent millions but need to prove themselves, Spurs have lost their key play maker in Modric. Couldn't be a better time for Newcastle to rejoin the top 4 as far as I can see!.

No chance to be honest. Pardew is doing exactly what he is wanted for, towing the line and not speaking out. He is simply the coach, picks the team from what is given to him. He agreed to those terms when he joined.Pardew is Ashley's lap dog.
