Yeah, each movie has an official Japanese title and English title. I call it New Theatrical Edition, different translation, same thing I guess.

Well the official English titles are Evangelion 1.0: You are (not) alone, etc I don't think the 新劇場版 title was meant to be used for English releases. Rebuild works better when referring to the entire project because of that I think.

So in terms of semantics the official English title is Evangelion 3.0: You can (not) redo, not Evangelion NME: Quickening.

The Japanese title of the movie series is Evangelion Shin Gekijōban which translates to either Evangelion: New Movie Edition or Evangelion: New Theatrical Version. Hence my calling it NME.

And seeing as we don't have an official English title for the entire series yet.

And besides, I'm not the only one who calls it NME.

Every film has two titles, the Quickening one is the Japanese title. The English title is typically of the form Evangelion x.0: You ___ (not) _____.

When the new movies were first announced, they said that:
1) the first movie would be released in early Summer 2007,
2) the second movie would be released in mid-Spring 2008,
3) the third and final movies would both be released in early Summer 2008.
Not just a rumor: that was the plan.

Considering how much the plan has completely changed, I don't really think they're sticking with anything they originally conceived anymore. They originally wanted to release three 90min movies. In the end both 1.0 and 2.0 ended up being longer than that, and the movies have made so much money that they probably feel justified in turning 3.0 and 4.0 into full length features too.

It's worth noting that 1.0 opened in 80+ screens in Japan, while 2.0 opened in 120+ screens. For 3.0, they've announced that it will be opening in 208 screens in November. The widest release for the series yet. It seems unlikely that they're going to do a wide release and shit out a 45min feature.
