I always thought his range itself was less impressive than his ability to actually stay up in the low-mid fifth octave for pretty extended periods. More the unusually high placement of his voice, basically. I know that there are lots of rock male vocalists who've been able to get that high in mix, but I can only think of a handful that actually sound "correct" or healthy that high.

His vocal agility - runs and transitions - has always been very impressive, yes. This is probably the best performance I can think of offhand for that. They're everywhere. From about 3:41 - 3:49 and then 3:50 - 4:02 is amazing.
