I wonder if the writers' have already thought about why Ted's kids looks like 16-20 years old in 2020 while they're not even conceived in 2012.

Because the story is being told in 2030, not 2020.

Ha, damn, I was pretty sure it was 2020, I'm sorry.

All this time I was like "They should be 8 !!"

So I have two theories:

1) Barney's wedding is further down in the future and not supposed to be part of this season/year of the story telling. I just don't understand how there will be a wedding next episode, unless...

2) Barney proposes to his girlfriend as a desperate measure to get her to stop stripping, wants to have the marriage immediately, and isn't sure if he's making the right move or not. Barney's actions of rushing a wedding brings out his entire family to the wedding, and his dad decides to bring Barney's half-sister with him to introduce them...which is where Ted meets her.

This season had to have the most ridiculous schedule that I have ever seen. I think we got 1 new episode last week, a break before that, like 1-2 episodes before that, and a month break before that. And now the season finale next week? There's absolutely no build up to it with these breaks.

They first flashforward to Barney's wedding in August 2010. Surely they won't delay it another season again.

Ted's daughter is born in 2015. I guess the writers could delay meeting the mom until March 2015.

Pretty sure it was confirmed, in the show even, that the wedding isn't this season. Just the flashforward to it.

I didn't know that when making the thread title, unfortunately

Yeah, the wedding is a flashforward. Was confirmed a while back.

There's no way in two episodes Lily has a baby and Barney manages to propose and get everyone to his wedding. But we'll definitely find out who Barney's marrying!

Pretty much means May 2013 is Barney's Wedding. In September 2013 we finally meet the mom. Though I wouldn't be surprised if we don't find out until 2014 the way the show has been dragging. This show teases too much.

I doubt they are flash fowarding a year ahead. They can simply flash foward to September 2012 which is when the wedding is and then start next season at the end of the wedding or the day after.

but we need more time spent on robin and ted. Just to make it 100% clear to the audience that they are not going to be together (an outcome that was known early on in the series).

They may write him out where he goes on some grand environmental journey and just focus on Ted and the mother, and Barney, since the mother is 90% Barney's sister.

Those 5 have been the entire show since the beginning. Having one leave would be worse than Steve Carrell leaving the Office in my opinion, and I'd hope that HIMYM has more integrity than that show.

She's been mentioned explicitly but never seen, is going to school in the city (and thus would probably be rooming with someone, like the girl Ted dated who was the mothers' roommate), and she'd obviously be likely to be at Barney's wedding.

So if 8 were the final season are they even going to introduce the mother into the mix? Or is going to be something completely underwhelming like Frasier's final romance.

And in terms of writing, the wife needs to be of importance to the audience, and that's a very cheap way to achieve that. Seems like a no brainer.

The only reason I'm not convinced it's Robin is because that was everyone's first guess when we saw the wedding scene.

I still think that they'll not make it easy for us and have Barney with either Robin or Quinn, and then have him bail out before tying the knot for someone else.

I will be pissed if it's anyone but Quinn. The writers have thrown so many "twists" this season that I'm really sick of them. Also, if it's someone else (say Robin) we'll just spend the entire next season wondering how Barney ends it with Quinn and gets with Robin instead of letting it happen naturally. Actually the entire idea of a flashforward is terrible.

Yeah, I think Ted would the Mother in that relationship. But it could work if it was actually from Barney's perspective all along.

Its not Quinn. They are going to pull a reverse Stella and have Barney leave her at the alter for Robin with sappy ass music playing in the background.

I wish they would surprise me, but I doubt they will. Or they could fuck with me, and have it be a dream sequence right before Barney says I do to Quinn.

Also, the baby will be fine. Why did they even put that in as a cliffhanger?
