My girlfriend loves this show and I like watching it with her, but I don't see how it can be viewed as anything more than a guilty pleasure sort of program. I have fun with it, but I see it pretty much on the same level as Melrose Place. It is just way too over the top.
The writer/journalist she took down a couple weeks ago was such a ridiculous cartoon of a character. "Oh look, here are my completed memoirs -- oh and this is absolutely the only copy of them! I'm just going to leave them on this desk here."

I <3 Revenge Sensei.
I also can't help but love that - despite heavily suspecting before the episode what the twist would be Tyler was the only one who knew about the hiding spot in Emily's floorboards - I can watch things play out, have a few smaller surprises, and still thoroughly enjoy what I'm seeing. |

Tyler turning up again was kinda irritating. I thought that the showrunner had said they were done with him as a character. How did he know about the Revenge Box in the floorboards anyway?

I don't normally watch tv shows but my female internet friend got me to watch the first ep.
It sure as hell is "lol @ all these women in happenstance power who are major assholes" but somehow I'm drawn to it anyways. My friend was like "that's kinda the point" |

To be honest, the only thing I appreciate from Revenge is the dynamic between Emily, Nolan and Jack. It's a weird friendship/love triangle kind of thing. |

If you ever thought they were going to kill off Daniel you had to be joking yourself. For them to show that scene at the beginning of the season but leave so many ambiguities about it......it was pretty obvious they were going to try and put a twist on it.
Killing Daniel would have essentially broken the entire show, since there would be no reason for Amanda to associate with the Graysons. If they weren't going to get renewed I suspect they might have killed him and ended the show storyline completely, which is why that scene was shot so ambiguously. |

Well of course no one would think that they'd off Daniel (and who best to take his place other than a throw away character at this point), it would still be a ballsy move to do so. However, I disagree that he is Emily's only in to destroy the Graysons. In fact, I would say that it would make Revenge more interesting if she gone about it differently, rather than the obvious way of seducing the heir. That plot, to me, is contrived.

I am a little surprised that they went and showed up EXACTLY what happened on the beach. I figured they would keep that mystery dangling above our heads for weeks and months. I guess the only thing there is left to wonder about is whether or not Emily is dead or merely kidnapped.
The entire plot is pretty contrived. If she wanted revenge she could have had it 6 ways from Sunday by now. It seems unclear to me whether she simply wants to destroy the family, or actually expose their coverup and redeem her father's good name. If it's the former she's already had the chance.......if it's the latter she seems to be going about it in a very meandering, unfocused way. It's still a fun show and all though. |

Fun show, but I do think it's a plot device that would suggest an 8 or 12 episode series. Could have been much more focused. The 22 eps is really gonna stretch it out, and then because it's doing so well it's gonna get another huge season.
It already feels padded. It's gonna get worse. |

One of the new shows I enjoy. The only thing that makes me wonder is that the premise of this story can't really be dragged out. I mean, just for how long is Emily going to plot revenge and everyone being oblivious?
I don't know where they are going take this show, but I just don't see it having a long run. |

so... up to episode 4.
its alright but I gotta say; post the pilot; does she take down 1 person per episode?! That seems to be the formula to date and its... kind of stupid. 22 episodes to the season too. Surely this is a 1 seasoner. I don't see how they can continue this next season. MORE REVENGE!!! |

The showrunners tend to refer to it as a "Takedown" when someone from her past shows up and Amanda screws them over. Takedowns are frequent at the beginning of the show, but not so much later. There hasn't been a takedown since mid-January.
It's a little ridiculous though, that rich and powerful people keep popping up out of nowhere and Amanda ruins their lives in under 48 hours. She gives an investment banker a bad tip and somehow he looses his entire company because he immediately puts all their money in one stock. Come on. The show's format definitely needs a shakeup after the first season. I'd like to see it completely flipped on its head -- as in, Victoria finds out who Amanda is and what she has been doing, and then the show becomes about Victoria exacting her own Revenge on Amanda. Both women seem to have near unlimited wealth, so to see them engaging in open warfare would be kinda interesting. I don't think they could really blow up the whole format like that, but you can only do so many "Oh I hacked this guy's email and now I'm going to expose all his secrets" plotlines before it gets dumb. |

I just watched the pilot and really liked it. But I'm not sure I want to continue on with the show, because... well, I've grown to despise the big network "pump 22 episode seasons til it dies" model. Ever since Lost ended, I've been all about those deliciously lean and focused cable series. That being said, should I give Revenge a fair chance? How much wheel spinning is there?

I just caught up on this show. Watched it all this past week. Just a whole lot of fun. Kind of ridiculous, but after a few episodes I was hooked in and had to keep on watching. I really wanted a show like this in my schedule. Glad I gave it a shot. Will be in this thread to discuss from now on. Revenge!

Great ep. I love all the juicy shit going on between Emily and Mama Bear. They both have their little secrets (and their big ones). It's fun to see which one of them is going down first.
Will be tough to see this stretched out for another full season, but it's been fun so far. |

So far yes. I really hope the writers have an end in sight though. It's been successful and will no doubt get renewed for S2. I don't know if they can keep this going for another 22 eps.

After that episode, it feels like the who-kill-Tyler story arc has overstayed its welcome. So ready to get back to the actual take-downs. And thank Kelley the trial shiz feels like it's wrapping up. -- Ending scene felt like a good hype-setter for full-on revenge in the coming weeks!

Now all the sociopathic domestic terrorist CEOs of billion dollar investment firms are going to buy them to bribe someone with.
REVENGE!! Fantastic episode. I really want to see the whiteboard in the writer's room with everything mapped out. |
