The Orange Box had manual saves in all SP games, Bioshock did too.

I wasn't feeling this game at first, but now I'm starting to really like it, I just beat the Assault and Onslaught levels.

Its not a 'top ten fps game ever' or some shit, but its good dumb fun. I love looking down on a village with the binoculars before I decide how I'm going to strike. And the game does a lot of little things really well that add up to a nice package.

Now give us Warhead, Crytek!

Hm. For all the visual compromise talk, I think the control consolidation is the most grievous of new Crysis' sins.

But it's a step up from PC Crysis' pad controls at least. Going prone is pretty vital to the experience and was absent there by default.

I only fired it up last night to check it out, I actually played it for a little chunk today, just the first two levels. I'm pretty stunned how well the Crysis experience has transferred over. It certainly looks bad, and runs like ass, but the combat is still incredible, and despite the poor performance, it's at least fairly consistent, on the PC I can go from sixty to in the twenties if things get really fucked up, here it's very consistent so far. I do still think they should have held off and made it a PS480 launch title, but I'm very glad it's on the consoles for a new audience, because it is the same majestic shooter it was.

It really makes me wonder why they didn't port the game earlier, perhaps part of the reason it's DD only is performance, this forced every user to have it fully installed, probably helps somewhat.

Aw yeah. Delta was actually a nice challenge, though the two final bosses were a pain 'til I figured out new strategies from them.

Just to be clear, to get credit for beating the game on Delta, you have to select Delta from the options menu AND start a new game on Delta, correct?

Yep. On the very front main menu go into options, select Delta and make sure you save, then start a new game and select Delta when it asks.

I... don't agree with that. I got through Assault last night and this game is amazing. It came out right around MW1 and I really wish this game became the template. It hasn't aged a day and has quickly become one of my favorite FPS games.

Dude... it's a videogame. How realistic do you want it to be? Do you want the AI system to institute cataract simulation routines for soldiers? How about distraction routines, where they send/receive intermittent text messages to/from friends/family/girlfriends? How about ennui simulations? They just get bored of the game itself and stop caring about you all together. You'll catch soldiers reading pornography in the middle of firefights.
The "you're doing it wrong" argument equals a design FAIL. These 'rules' you speak of are unclear and/or simply non existent. That is poor design.

Crytek has real pretty tech but their AI programming is simply trash

There's some good stuff in there if you dig around for it. Always been fun luring guards with sounds one by one to pick them off, and being able to take out patrols unnoticed by killing them off individually from the rear was always neat.

The AI is fun to play around with, so in my eyes it is successful. In general the AI is good, but Crytek has to account for more, so there are more cracks and such. But, as said before, the AI is more fun to fight, so it is a net gain.

Sadly, the lack of multiple saves or a quick save doesn't allow for any real experimentation.

Of course it is. Just because you say so.

Christ, you're a whiny little ___. They're only "unclear" and "nonexistent" to you because you're too busy sniffling and playing the game through teary eyes. "FAIL"? Really? The game is open-ended enough to reward all types of approaches - good and bad ones. Sorry you perennially choose to opt for the latter. I guess Crysis isn't for you.

Good talk.

So... I finished this game and got 100% of the achievements a few days ago. I liked it enough that I bought Crysis 2 and have played through a few levels, but I'm not really feeling it. Am I burnt out on Crysis or does Crysis 2 suck?

It doesn't suck, but I found it disappointing after playing Crysis 1. It's still a pretty good game, though, stick with it.

Funny thing is I saw a few Crysis twitters I follow just randomly posting several full download codes for this game a few days ago. Like how some twitters post DLC codes or Gears beta codes back then.

I already had it so didn't matter. Still cool I guess.

That happens when there are framerate drops as the game doesn't speed up to compensate for the dropped frames so there's lag between voices and animations.

Just got up to Onslaught on Delta. PS3 version. I've played the game before on my MacBook Pro, but this is so much better.

I'm actually not getting the "eagle eye" that everyone seems to be complaining about on Delta. I'm finding it pretty easy so far, bar a few encounters, but it's so much fun!

Cloak, shoot 3 dudes, run behind random tree/rock, cloak, come out of cover, repeat.

Loving this game so far, though there is a crazy amount of pop in, but I don't care lol.

Finally finished last night on Hard. Best FPS I've played since Halo CE - at least, gameplay-wise.

Some people commented that it felt like a tech demo more than a game. I might agree with that and I think that may be why I like it so much. It's just carried by raw gameplay without the pretension.

That's part of what made CE such a great game, in comparison to the sequels. Bungie only had enough time to truly focus on the gameplay, which caused them to draw an unrefined diamond from a chunk of coal. The sequels had broader focus, they wanted to be Star Wars, and gave Shakespearian accents and a religious caste system to aliens and became inherently stupid.

Furthermore, I'm very interested in Crysis 2 simply due to the ambiguity that the aliens are portrayed with, unlike what the Halo series decided to do after CE. I really want to play C2, but I'm really, really scared due to impressions - does the game open up at all even later on in the game to resemble its predecessor? Maybe I can wait till' it hits 20 bux.

I wish more big budget video games would take the approach of trying to create a diverse and dynamic gameplay engine that can be thoroughly entertaining despite the dressing. Or maybe developers are already attempting this, but they're just executing it badly.

When people accuse something of being a tech demo, they're usually trying to get across the exact opposite, that it was pretty graphics with no gameplay to back up. All style, no substance. So kind of the opposite of what your saying.

I understand they're insulting the game from their POV. Even still, if that's truly a disposition - it makes no sense. When you think of a tech demo, you don't think of just graphics, but the entire spectrum of what the engine can accomplish and at what capacity. Graphics-wise, there are better looking games on the 360/PS3.

It happens throughout the entire game. I mean, I don't think there's a cutscene where it isn't off. The framerate is usually fine, too.

Up until the Core level, this was probably the best FPS I've ever played. And I've played a lot. But that level was UGH HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.

I had to turn off the system after I came out the other side. So we'll see.

It doesn't have the obvious brand extensions and all the other horse shit that comes with an "AAA" game nowadays (Crysis 2 did, though), but it's way more than a tech demo.

If this game is a glorified tech demo, than I'd rather have more glorified tech demos like this (with open areas this big, optional objectives, and tactical gameplay), and less polished, scripted, super linear games like the Calls of Duty.
