Just a minute or 2 I think, it's mostly Conan walking around in the audience.

Oh cool! I think my DVR automatically records an extra minute or two, so hopefully it catches everything. If not, oh well :-\ Can't wait to get home to see this show :-)

Riding off on Teddy Jr. Perfect way to end it. Conan may be down sometimes, but you know that sooner or later he'll do something amazing. This week proves that.

It was cool seeing all the phones light up and aim at Stewart once Conan announced him. People stood up to see Colbert too when he strolled down, and even did his chant.

Also, the crowd surfing bed bug was fun. The Triumph bit was very good too.

Conan's ratings make me sad... he is the best person on late night and is insanely enjoyable to watch and listen too.

I really hope TBS doesn't just screw Conan over because people would rather watch old men giggle at another talk show. I just hope Conan starts to be break the mold of the "classic" late night formula. Something has to change and Conan is exactly the guy to do it.

I doubt it, because Conan is a huge fan and admirer of the classic late night formula (the one created by Johnny Carson), and although his comedy is different from older talk show hosts, he still adheres strictly to the formula, perhaps more so than others.

He always wanted to host the Tonight Show, and even when he lost it, his new show was a direct copy of it, even though he had free reign (and some legal preassure) to do something completely new.

I'm surprised NBC allowed Conan to use Triump and the masturbating bear (or at least, I'm assuming they let him). I figured NBC would have locked them away in a steel vault for good after Conan was gone.

At this point, suing would be horrible PR for something NBC wants to forget.

You know, I don't think NBC really owns much of Conan's old assests. And even if they do, as the above poster said, I really doubt they'd do anything.

The reason we rarely see them is because Conan himself said he wanted the TBS show to be a new beginning of sorts. Create new characters, segments, skits etc. I think it's just been a personal choice to not use them very often.

Part way though the third show, and I have to ask... what would be the motivation behind TBS spending so much money to sent the entire Conan crew over for a week of shows? They seem to have invested a lot in assets that would really only be used this week... new logo, new assets, advertising. There has to be a reason than just this week.

A move, maybe? Or just hardcore profile building?

I don't think TBS gives him money to use, it's more of a commission deal, where the coco gang tapes episodes and sells them to tbs, and then they split profits on cable sales/ads/etc.

Ah.

Point kinda still stands, though. A shitload of money had to be dumped on the show this week. Why?

Just on this third show, I really do love watching Conan play guitar. It's a view of him we very rarely get to see... like, no trying to be charismatic or funny or anything like that, and comfortable to have the spotlight taken off him while performing with someone else. Almost like a "pure" sense of who he is, what he's like when he's relaxed and really enjoying himself.

Coco being coco I guess. I think it was cool of him, especially with the wedding on the last day. I'm guessing all the staffers wanted to be there alongside the grooms and their families.

Conan is the exact guy to not do it. He's a slave to the old, archaic formula and his obsessions with it and the legacy of the Tonight Show already fucked him over once before. Nothing is holding him back right now, he has full creative control. What you are seeing is what he is now. I don't expect a sudden surge of freshness.

Watching the NYC shows, is it possible that there has been a change? Realising how well it's working must be a kick in the pants for the decision makers behind his LA show. It's been IMO near equal to his best from Late Night.

Holy shit, that Triumph remote was AMAZING. Did anyone else notice the wizard from the Star Wars remote toward the end? Awesome. The drumroll dude was a great addition, too.

I feel like he needs to hire some younger, hungrier writers. Seems like the current staff is in working retirement.
