Chrome on iPad is pretty great too. Love that it syncs my bookmarks so seamlessly between devices (though probably not a good thing in my PCs case, considering Firefox is my main browser, if you know what I mean....)

I'm loving iOS Chrome (when paired with the jailbreak tweak that makes it a default browser for iOS)

The only downsides I've found:

1. No "add to homescreen" bookmark option, from what I've seen.

2. Map links open within the browser instead of the Maps app. Obviously Google wants you to stay within Google Maps-land rather than lose you to the iOS6 map option....

Apple disables that for all thirdparty browsers?

Is that a question or a rhetorical question? :)

Even if that is the case, it still sucks if Apple is to blame, and I'd hope for a jailbreak tweak...

Not that it is more than 20% slower than Safari?

That's probably down to Safari's awful, clunky interface more than anything.

(Chrome, Grazing, Dolphin & Atomic all feel faster than Safari to me)

Bit the bullet and picked up iPhoto for iOS. It actually works out just fine for what I'd like to do on iPhone and iPad. My only complaint so far is lack of intructions/guides on the iPhone version. I tap the icon, and I edit away, not knowing what button does what.

Does Apple's Podcast app sync with iTunes? When I first downloaded it I synced with iTunes and it picked up all my subbed podcasts but on subsequent syncs it seems to have no interest in actually keeping them synced. I have a bunch of podcasts in iTunes and a bunch in the podcasts app and they're all different. :/

Yep. I don't even bother with iPhoto anymore. Nice features but it's not intuitive nor user-friendly at all.

I've encountered a terribly annoying glitch/bug with the new Podcasts app. Apparently I tried to subscribe to a podcast which isn't available anymore (but still on iTunes for whatever fucking reason) and can't really delete it anymore from my library. Every time I delete it it just reappears but I can't download any episodes either. I hope Apple rolls out an update that fixes this ASAP.

part of what makes Apple's ecosystem so strong is how strongly they proselytize and even reward developers for adhering to the platform's HIGs and UX/UI conventions. their consumer apps, meanwhile, now trend towards ugly skeuomorphism or dense, hot garbage (iPhoto for iOS).

i can't wrap my head around the separation in that philosophy, which looks even worse when comparing their apps to the spartan elegance of the hardware.

Apple's Podcast app is garbage.

I like the idea of iCloud sync (start on my Mac, resume on my iPhone). But the inability to set a playlist from oldest to newest podcasts ruins it for me. Podcasts insists on playing the newest podcasts first.

Instacast is far better in this regard. Yes, the update months ago broke a few things. But recent updates have made it much better and have suffered no crashes or other technical issues. If only the same could be said for Instacast.

Yeah, I think it's kind of weird as well. Especially because one of the big things with 10.5 was that they'd finally unified the look of the OS across the whole system. Now they're busy not only creating a visually inconsistent UI but an visually consistent ugly UI.

iPhoto is a hot mess!

Apple makes beautiful hardware in my opinion, but some of its software design decisions is baffling.

Also, how is it the case that iOS Chrome is '20% slower'? Doesn't it use the system-wide WebKit?

Only Safari can use the new Nitro JS engine, everything else uses the old engine.

I really wonder if that can be patched on jailbroken phones, would love to see it happen.

Or Apple open it up.

Doubt either will happen though.

I've noticed pretty much the opposite with Chrome. It reloads more often but initial pageloads are definitely faster on my 4S.

It's an incredible app. Other than Pleco (mind-blowing English-Chinese dictionary), it's the only app I'd give an unqualified 10/10. It does what it does perfectly.

it's one of my favorite and most used iOS apps, and, oddly enough, hews closer to Android's UI language than iOS. it's the quickest way to jump in and stream a podcast, let alone finding online stations or radio shows. part of that is due to its non-standard UI, the rest from its extensive catalog of radio streams, podcasts and other forms of online audio.

handles streams much better than NPR's app, and i prefer using it to listen to my local NPR station than an actual radio or Radium on OSX.

So I just finished up on a new app for iOS that allows you to capture colors off of objects in real time and save their RGB, CMYK, and HEX values.

Check it out and support a fellow gaffer!

Looking for an app...not sure if any such thing exists, though. #2140

Here's what I'd like an app to do on my iPhone:

1) Allow me to enter reminders of things I'd like to do
2) At some interval, use the iOS notification system to pop up a reminder of one random thing selected from the list
3) Continue indefinitely

The basic idea is this: In order to make personal changes in behavior, it's helpful to remain mindful of what you're trying to do. For example, if you are trying to get out of the habit of answering a question with a question, or try to be more positive and less negative, you need to pay attention to those things or you will continue to do them unconsciously. But these are not to-dos in the classic sense since you need to be reminded periodically. The low-tech equivalent would be posting a list to yourself on the bathroom mirror, but that has the disadvantage of a) not being private and b) being easy to ignore since the brain blocks out the routine. Once you get used to seeing that list there, you stop seeing anything it says.

Does any such app exist, or is this pretty much a unique use case? (I tried some web searching, but all I seem to get are to-do or reminder-type apps where you set one specific goal with one set day/time for when it has to be completed.) Thanks for any recommendations you can provide...

I bet this has been asked before but if someone with the knowledge could just answer...

An app that has RSS offline sync? And I mean an offline pointing to the article link and not just the RSS feed.

An offline Maps app, specifically for Germany or Europe?

I'm buying my wife an iPod touch so there's no constant access to data.

I want this so bad. I'm always flagging emails for follow-up in outlook and would love to have this list availble. Reminders app doesn't import items like this.

TED Books.

Can you clarify what this means? You mean an app that downloads articles from a feed and makes them available to read offline?
