Nice thread. SMT is probably my favorite gaming franchise. Got into it with P2:EP, and have played pretty much all of the US released games in the series to completion. They're all so good...Nocturne is probably my favorite though.

Mecha: yep, the Strange Journey designs are largely from Soul Hackers art. Most of the 'new' demons are.

Really in the mood to replay a megaten game right now. Haven't touched a JRPG since Xenoblade (yuck!).

I'm hesitating between Raidou 1 & 2 and DDS 1 & 2. Raidou 1 gameplay is bloody terrible but the setting and story are fantastic while DDS 1 story is awful while the gameplay and customization are ace.

Well, we can agree to disagree, but I enjoy both games. Raidou 1 is pretty short though. I'd recommend that.

Being an immense MegaTen and Kazuma Kaneko fan, both series are great! Raidou 1 is good, but Raidou 2 is amazing <3!

DDS 1 & 2 are both awesome! If I had to recommend, I'd say play DDS1 & 2 first and then Raidou 1 & 2 ;)

I really hope Kaneko can make a Raidou 3 on PS3 <3

Also, it's a shame the art he made for the Raidou novels wasn't used in a game, cuz it's awesome <3 Kyouji Kuzunoha the First *_*

Devil Survivor is a solid game. I'd say the biggest flaw is the subpar music and art design, but the gameplay and plot is ace.

I'd suggest trying out Strange Journey since you have a 3DS. Do you have a PSP? If you do you can check out the first 3 Persona games (minus Innocent Sin)

As far as where Devil Survivor sits, it's one of my least favorite SMTs; then again, I haven't played that many. SMT3 and and P4 are the best 2 in my limited opinion.

Loved Strange Journey, loved P3P, loved what I played of P4 (I was plodding my way through it very slowly due to school and I got a new apartment at the beginning of the current semester and wasn't able to bring my TV along. When I saw that Vita is getting a port I just decided to start over when that comes out), and loved Devil Survivor Overclocked.

I'm interested in the P2 port that recently came out for PSP, but I'm wondering how dated it feels. Given that I've liked the games above, am I likely to enjoy P2, or is there a "It's good as long as you're fine with the clunky mechanics" caveat?

P2 PSP's not clunky at all. It's actually a huge improvement over the PS1 version. What might frustrate you is the high random battle frequency and dungeons, but you beat Strange Journey, so I doubt that'll bother you.

The characters, plot, music, and mood override any extra work you do in that game via conversation and card collecting easily. I just wish my PSP hadn't clonked out halfway in.

I'm playing through SMT2 now, I skipped first since I heard it was somewhat frustrating, but read the plot summary of the first game, would have blown my mind had I played it back in the SNES days, so insanely awesome.

I've been at the end of DDS2 for about a year and a half, but I keep putting it off for various reasons.

WTF. That would be a breath of fresh air for the series. Go to a different country. Possibly not nuked like MT/SMT Japan was in the 90's. Have them be a bit more advanced since they weren't nuked/"war machine" wasn't slowed and have the demons be technological or whatever since we're in the internet or whatever.

Would be an interesting thing to see. Shame they canceled it because "LOL JPN ONRY." :|
