Good episode, but I am kinda disappointed in how they handled the scene with Kiritsugu's battle plan before Caster showed up. In the novel, Iri see's for the first time her husband's Magus Killer personality, to which the Einzbern's hired him for, and it caught her completely off guard, shaking her a bit, wondering about her husband's identity. This does make their scene together outside much stronger, as Iri see's his breakdown and realizes that he truly is no longer the man he used to be, that its more of a mask now than it was then.

From what I remember, the scene with Father Kotomine suspending the Grail War to go after Caster and his master happens after the scene with Rider getting his mail order package.

Also very minor nitpick in the tech being used such as the laptops being more modern than the way they used to look back in 1994.

Can't wait, really, it looks so good.
You are technically spoiling yourself, as Fate Zero is a prequel to that series/visual novel and the wars consequences are being felt in the 5th Grail War.

Quote:
I don't know much about FSN at all except the two episodes I watched way back really, really sucked and I voided everything else related to it for a long time! ^^
IMO you really did yourself a disservice duck, it was a good series that did get me into Typemoon, and the last battle's climax was one where I did find myself cheering.

To give you and Grzi a bit of background, the anime combines elements of the three routes from the VN, Fate, Unlimited Bladeworks, and Heaven's Feel, though the overall story background is the Fate route(though that route is my sentimental favorite, most fans will tell you Fate is the weakest of the three routes, as its main purpose was to expose you and get you to know the characters before going into the bigger stuff in Unlimited Bladeworks and Heaven's Feel and the changes Shirou goes through in those, as he and his worldview alters more with each route). Studio DEEN did drop the ball on more than a few things (the hardcore FSN fans will tell you EVERYTHING was bad, but...::shrugs::) but it was still a good story all on its own, however I do agree that the VN are much better.

No. Stop. Stop right now. Please. I don't want to know any background about Type-Moon shit. I don't care. I don't want this thread to be about any other Type-Moon crap other than Fate/Zero. If you people insist on wanting to discuss Type-Moon stuff outside of Fate/Zero, I will leave the thread and desubscribe it. I am only interested in watching Fate/Zero because I like the characters and the story in it. I've hated every other Type-Moon written product I've seen, and I hate all their characters. I'm sorry but if you cannot respect that, then maybe I'll just excuse myself from this thread from now on.

He didn't miss nothing by skipping the F/SN anime.

Nice ideas but a bad show overall.

Episode 7

Waver and Rider are the best. I love how he gets so worked up, though in the end is always willing to do for Rider. That is how I imagine ones relationship with their servant should be. However I greatly dislike how they treat Saber. Kiritsugu seems to not even care about her and ignores all but Maiya at times, and even worst, only irisviel cares about Saber. I will be mad if their downfall is because of Kiritsugu's incompetence. Though his fight with the mage was pretty cool. I was hoping Waver would defeat the mage though, which doesnt seem likely based on the title for the next episode, if a mage will truly be killed.

I hope Ryuunosuke gets more screentime. ..and the conditions for losing in this war need to spelled out, is it elimination if master is killed?

Am I alone in being kinda okay with the Caster/Ryu censorship? I mean, the pillar-shots felt really awkward(even before I knew they were censoring something), but at the same time I think that the show benefited from not shoving child-torture/mutilation in the viewer's face.

I feel like the show is walking a very narrow line between generic anime and "SO DARK AND EDGY, MAN," and it'll lose a lot of the magic if it strays too far in either direction.

A good example was Caster's introductory scene. They didn't show anything, but it was still both chilling and brutal.

Even when uncensored on Blu-ray, I do not expect that the show will be particularly gratuitous. The direction is relatively classy in general, so there's no reason they'll be extremely gross for no reason. Will there be more visual gore? Yes, for sure. But the main issue of censorship is not so much censoring pure violence, but also not specifically depicting the harm of minors. The TV station doesn't want to get into trouble, so they're cutting down on what they already have.

The lack of angsty child/teenage Masters makes F/Z so much better, doesn't it? And no, Waver doesn't count, he's awesome and finally gowing a spine.

Loved the last scene in 7 Kayneth! RATATATATATATATA, can't wait for 8.

I was afraid the cast would be a bit too aged for me to enjoy it but it has really surprised me to have found some favorites among them and their interactions, I guess the benefit is since they are older the conversations between character feel more enriched and deeper.

Episode 8

That was hot. I think Irisviel is definitely up there now as one of my favorite characters in this first half of the anime. Sure she ended up being defeated but that falcon bird was hot and she even bound Kirie The first half of the episode was cool. Kayneth v Kiritsugu will remain a memorable part of the series.

Basically, it tears down the opponent's Magic Circuits, then connects it back together incorrectly so that it can't be repaired. The more mana the opponent uses against the bullet, the further the damage goes.

Said gal was already pretty messed up, and probably shocked that said dude had just been handled, however temporarily, by Irisviel.

Loved the episode though, even if I was hoping Rider would pop out and start randomly running over Cthuluoids like driving around a freaking racetrack.

And just like every other episode, maybe even moreso, I can't help but wonder what the uncensored cut of this ep will contain considering this one was fairly graphic compared to prior.

Same reason why Kiritsugu meticulously planned out how to surprise Kayneth last week, but decided to shout out his name before he even attacked. Lol.

For episode 9, I must say that this anime continues to be one where little to no action still makes for an interesting and watchable show.

Rider and Waver continue to make the show utterly worthwhile. I did think it odd that they were the only ones actually focused on taking down Caster, who, by the way, is never around Ryuunusuke apparently? Is he going to forever be hidden behind the scenes? This is my favorite team as I love their bond and one must admit, it would be great if Waver rose to the occasion and enhances his mage skills to actually continue to survive in this.

Is a Kayneth, Sola-Ui, Lancer love complex forming? Hopefully Lancer has learned from his past with getting involved in a relationship with a married woman and will avoid any action with Sola-Ui. Kayneth is just uninteresting and made me wonder how he got involved with Sola-Ui who seems like she has ulterior motives not in line with her husband. It seemed that she lied to Lancer’s face about what she wants to with the Holy Grail though, but I think she is actually falling for Lancer…

Decent episode 10. They make it easy to be disappointed to be a Ryuunosuke fan. Really, just standing there doing nothing as Rin fights back? Seriously. .

The best song in the OST was during the climax of this episode though.

The parts with Rin in the alleyway, being saved by Kariya and picked up by Aoi (with Aoi's conversation with Kariya) were pretty much canon to the novel. She did go out, and she did go looking for Kotone, however all the stuff at the beginning with her classmates and the end with that was anime only.

Also, sadly, Rin never found Kotone in the novel nor encountered Ryuunosuke.

I'm referring to the Fate/Zero novels, which this series is based off of.

It is not the Fate/Stay Night visual novel.

I don't want to know anything! I don't care! I ignore all source material because everything takes away from the perfection of the anime! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Edit: It's like how people who never read A Song of Ice and Fire don't want to discuss the novels in the Game of Thrones HBO threads. :P

Goofy and contrived, the scene with twin tails girl and chid killer guy was so stupid.

Well not ep1 bad but it felt like dumb filler making it the 2nd worst fate/zero episode.

Im going to assume that all the real action will just take place in the Spring half of the show. I liked how the discussion was handled, though I wish the masters would actually do it too.

Not to mention two certain Masters that have been alluded to be on a collision course that I'm hoping will be done well.

No more Fate/Zero until April. :(

Not a particular good set of episodes to end a "season" on either. Ep12-13 were basically just build up episodes which lead to the next major action set piece. They should have ended it at ep11 for the season imo. The pacing is going to seem really weird having to wait over 3 months, and suddenly getting a huge action episode opening the next season. Although, I guess there's a chance that they probably plan on doing a quick re-run of the entire season some time in March.
