Mostly friends and gaf. It happens all the time, but recently Diablo 3 really exposed a few crooked reviewers for me. That game was totally broken on release and you can find all kinds of reviews praising it for being unbelievably polished. 10/10! Instant classic! What a joke.

Eurogamer, Edge, Rock Paper Shotgun, Gamespot pre-exodus (yes, no Giant Bomb; their review output is low and i feel they don't have enough variety of opinion between them, so you end up with stuff like Ryan's Mario Kart 7 review), and i always did like Nintendo Power for some reason. very friendly style.

I haven't read a professional video game review in years. Once I discovered GAF I never went back.
Edit: I'm not sure if this count, but I do enjoy the video "reviews" by Yahtzee. I'm usually able to predict if I would like a game or not based on his reviews.

Matt and Bozon were my favorite reviewers. It's such a shame they left game coverage, because their podcast was fucking incredible. Almost as good as the Bombcast. I loved the old IGN Nintendo.
Now that they're gone I judge games off of GAF, GiantBomb's quick looks, and my own personal tastes. The majority of my favorite games are games that don't get 80% or 90% on Metacritic, so I don't trust reviews that much anymore.

Not official reviewers, but I watch a LOT of Videogames Awesome! where they do a lot of playthroughs and first-looks. The main guy playing (Fraser) may not always have the same views as me, but the way they play and show the game means I get a great look at the game and I can generally tell if the game is gonna be up my alley and he genuinely comes up with some good critiques that I might not have thought of. But really, the show isn't meant as a review site, just entertainment.
I can never trust actual reviewers, no matter who they are, I always get the feeling their opinions are skewed. |

The CGW/GFW guys back in the day (Jeff Green, Shawn Elliott, Ryan Scott, Sean Malloy etc) and that mostly came from the discussions on the Brodeo about enthusiast press ethics. So many publications seemed fishy. I liked Tom Chick a lot too. Not because I agreed with him, I rarely did, but because he was usually so against the grain but always gave real reasons why he was.

I look at Metacritic as a guide, but people have different tastes, so unless you find a reviewer who has very similar tastes to yours, there are going to be reviews that you prefer over others. I like myself as the best reviewer, I know what sucks and what doesn't.

Tough to say. I find myself disagreeing and agreeing with just about all of 'em on different games. I guess I enjoy hearing what the Giant Bomb guys have to say on most things. Their quick looks are a nice view on how a game plays. Same goes for TotalBiscuit and his YouTube channel. Basically does his own version of quick looks called "WTF is *insert game title*". He knows his stuff.

Honestly, nobody anymore. I used to be way more into "who" reviewers were back in the day, and had a number of favorites and guys I generally hated or disliked. Now, not so much, dont even really follow that stuff quite as much.
Infact, the only guy I ever really respected or valued his opinion was Greg Kasavin. I noticed alot of mentions for Greg, and dont think its that surprising that for many, he was easily the best and most beloved reviewer/personality for the sites back in the day. He was gamespot for me, and when he left, I was pretty sad, albeit he got to do something he always wanted. Only guy whom I consistently agreed with, and I always love how he sometimes did something a little special for certain video reviews he would do, like his Virtua fighter one, or Ninja gaiden. Guy seemed classy as fuck, and appeared genuine. Good shit greg. |

I listen to the Cynical Brit/TotalBiscuit on youtube (subscribed) because he's usually pretty indepth with his opinions and comes off as a level headed person.
Aside from that i read GAF, and that's it. Don't read nor watch reviews, don't check metacritic. I usually know what games i'm interested in, by the time they're out, Gaf is pretty good to fill in the gaps. As for the rest, i use Gamersyde, youtube and sometimes gametrailers for the media, and read whatever random article gets linked here that seems interesting. I also watch Giant Bomb's stuff from time to time, but just for the laughs.
