Just in: Zoo Keeper is coming to the 3DS.

Unfortunately, there are no specific details at the source, outside of the 01/26/2012 Japanese release date. It may or may not be an eShop title.

Apparently it's a kind of "Match 3" type of game.

Whats with the hitler dude though >.<

You know, having a moustache doesn't automatically make you look like Hitler... Heck, it could be his open mouth for all we know...

I'm getting the feeling GAF is not familiarized with Zoo Keeper.

I'm kind of freaking out.

Zoo Keeper was one of the better launch period DS games, although that seems like it's damning it with faint praise.

The iPhone and iPad version was great!

I wonder if there will be any changes, or will this be just be a 3D port?

3DS Killer App. I've played the DS version way too much.

I still suck at it though, I pretty much just have to hope for any sort of combos to pull themselves up, rather than me actually setting up any

DS version is quite seriously one of my favourite games on the system. Pretty freakin' EXCITE for this one. But yeah, HMV has some details and screens up on their product listing~ http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/4239143

It's a full retail release, eight different game modes, two player (local-play from a single cartridge or online). I thiiink it also has online leaderboards?

Zoo Keeper was one of the two games I bought with my old silver DS, back in 2005. IIRC, I got it as part of a deal where I could get it free with the DS and Advance Wars: Dual Strike, and it looked the least offensive of the free games on offer.

The game was digital crack.

Advance Wars went unloved for quite some time while Zoo Keeper was never out of the machine. I played it waiting for the bus, I played it on the bus, I played it in the loo at work, I played it on my lunch break... Fingers crossed for a UK release :)

Zoo Keeper was the game I bought a DS for. Well, ZK and Advance Wars. But ZK was the first one that grabbed me, and I remember yelling at the stupid animals to stop shaking when I was nearing defeat.

Incredibly addicting puzzle game.

This game might push me over the edge to buy a 3DS.
One of the absolutely best DS games, and in my opinion it plays a lot better on a resistive touchscreen with a stylus compared to on the iPhone or with a mouse.

Zoo Keeper was my most played game on DS. I don't have a 3DS but if I ever get one this is definitely a purchase.

Zoo Keeper was a favorite of mine. Though it was unfairly slammed by reviewers, I found it to be the most satisfying and addictive Bejeweled-type game I've played. And the boss/uncle is awesome.

That said, no way am I paying $40 for this again.

Holy shit. I can't believe it. :lol I remember this game, and I'm amazed they're bringing it back. It was nothing more than a Bejeweled clone, but damn, it was pretty fucking amusing for some reason. I'm not even sure why. :lol

I hope they keep it simplistic and fast to play and jump into for quick sessions.

Galactic Fork

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
The DS already had Zookeeper, they should just reprint it, or put into the eshop. A full 3ds version seems pointless considering it's Zookeeper.

Did the game do well?
It lived in bargain bins since release for years.

That reminds me that a saw a couple copies of Sega Casino at Target. How the hell is that still in print.

A game that made Eurogamer update its first review, from 6/10:

A hugely absorbing and enjoyable puzzle game. Which is absolutely not worth spending money on.

I've changed my mind. It's definitely worth buying.

Might get it after finishing Sudoku 3D (
well, essentially the non-sudoku games
).

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES.

Loved that game on DS. One of the first I bought and continually played. Ridiculously fun local multiplayer.

Oh no, I'll have to ruin my 3DS-tiuchscreen too, by putting a big grid on the touchscreen. I'm on my second copy of Zoo Kepper on DS; because I (and my family) have played this game to death. To death. The best puzzle game not called Tetris. I might even prefer it over Tetris.

Right, confused. Thought I remembered owning a GBA version, and I did. It was brilliant.

It all stemmed from a free Flash game, which might be still around.

I got my buddy and his mom, along with my own mom, addicted to Zoo Keeper when the DS first came out. Man, I'm surprised they're bringing this back

To people thinking "why retail? shoulda been eShop", with retail the publisher has money as soon as retailers buy the iniital shipment while with eShop its a month after some actual sales are made. Plus in retail the publisher is in full control of when it is released rather than Nintendo having that control.

But yes this is one of those you games you think, eShop surley (and also what happened to backwards compatability?) much like...

But much like that one I'd hope that it'll to be cheaper than your typical 3DS release in the west at least (at least here in the UK I seem to recall Sudoku 3D being far cheaper).

(In Europe at least) The GBA verison was just called Zooo and was missing the Zoo Keeper character.

Personally I don't really see the harm in companies releasing 1:1 3D versions of existing [DS] games. I mean, why not? The only annoyance is for the people who bought the original 2D version -- you don't have to buy it again -- but apart from something like Zelda or Mario that most people already own, I don't really see it being a common complaint.

So what's gonna be 3d in zoo keeper?
Obviously not the main game which is played on the touchscreen.
Probably just some 3d effects on the top screen. Pass if so.

Is that really the case with the eShop? Isn't that a different policy from WiiWare, where publishers had to hit a certain threshold (something like a couple of thousand sales, wasn't it?) before they got their cash? Or did the change to payment after sales with no threshold come in with the DSi Shop?

The sales threshold is gone. But what I'm saying is with a retail release you need more capital ot start with (cards produced, manuals printed etc) but when you sell 10,000 to them off to retail/wholesale you've got money in the bank (until the retailer returns pile in at least...). You might never make a second shipment, so its basically a one-off payment.

Digital on the other hand is a drip feed which may never reach 10,000 (depends on how poor the 3DS connectivity rates are) but effectively has unlimited shelf life (even if it is burried behind 50 menus) and low distribution cost. The catalyst in the drip is putting the game on sale; which is a no-go with Nintendo.
