Greetings Furry Denizens of GAF!
So...how did you become a furry? What is your fursona? How do you feel about this Vanity Fair article? Pleasures of the Fur Are you a plushie? Now, does being a furry free up your sexual identity? Does gender matter as much as the fursuit? How often do you wash your fursuit? Was it StarFox, Super Mario Bros. 3 or Disney's Robin Hood that was the main thrust in your furry awakening? |

The main lesson is that people can develop an obsession over anything. I would also suspect that its easier for people to develop an obsession with something if they find other people who do as well first.

I feel obligated to post here because of my username.
Also, I went to a furry meetup a few years ago. I think I was like... 14 or 15? I kind of identified as furry back then. I was a screwed up kid. It was basically two hours of everyone but me in tails/awkward outfits walking around a mall, and the 30-ish year old organizer talking to the two middle-high schoolers in the group about how much he envies them being so young. It's one of the few internet subcultures I've stopped wanting to give the benefit of the doubt to. The vast, VAST majority of people who are outwardly furry (and past the awkward teen years, lol double standard) are just really creepy. Really, really, really creepy. (Actually, now that I'm in college, I will admit there's some furries in my group of friends and acquaintances. Some are awesome. One has furry child porn in the same folder on his laptop that his homework assignments are in.) |

Something tells me this thread isn't going to last very long. Legitimate question - What's with the persecution complex? Most weird fetish groups are either so ashamed they hide it, or just laugh at how pissed people are getting at someone else's sexual endeavors. It seems like a lot of furries are really defensive about their (hobby/fetish/lifestyle/pick whichever one offends you least) Works for me!

Why did you have to turn this thread into a war not even on the first page?

My thread (which was actually serious unlike this bullshit troll thread) made it to 10 pages before being deleted.
Yes, deleted. Edit: This was actually what my thread was about. I was asking why this is. |

Wait, I am actually genuniely curious about how people get into the lifestyle and what the impetus is.
i mean, there has got to be a schism between the people who oversexualize and fetishize the furry lifestyle, and those who are into to for whatever reason. I'm curious about that and the reason why people got into fur-dom?

I used to be friends with a furry who went to some of the bigger furry conventions every year. One year I tagged along with him out of morbid curiosity, and honestly they were pretty cool people. Socially awkward? Most definitely. But creepy? Aside from perhaps one or two people I met, I can't say they were creepy at all. They were really chill. Actually, the people I meet at anime conventions are typically far creepier. That said, I can't identify with them at all, so I don't bother trying.
Also, what's the deal with furries mostly being homo/bisexual? At least that's what I gathered. It got to the point where furries automatically assumed my friends and I were gay just because we were at the event. I'm not even exaggerating -- everyone I met was gay or bi, including females, and we're talking about over a hundred people over a three day period. Not that it bothered me, but I just don't understand the connection. |

Half of our childhood's shows are about anthromorphic animals. I'm not a furry, but almost all of my first crashed were cartoon animals (Lola Bunny was fucking hot.) So I can easily see where this is coming from.
