I wouldn't say catacombs are the last area to go, at least in terms of difficulty. I just did it without breaking a sweat as the skeletons are weak as hell (I just cleared 4 kings so I'm around that area in the game).
Also about the boss in that area...what kind of joke was that? 4 swings from my furysword and he's dead. Took about 15 seconds, no lie. I feel like I'm being trolled here. |

plus you can get the great scythe and gravelord sword....and the TWOP miracle.....and the Darkmoon seance ring!!! LOtsof reasons to go for all sorts of different reasons.......many of my characters go there immediately before ringing gargoyle bell...my early game usually starts with queelag so I can get the pyro and then homeward bone after scoring the gold hemmed set.....the patches stuff is nice to have early also....even if you don't go all the way through the tomb. @ agent otaku - if you want to tough out catacombs it can be done at low level, but then if you do it would be best to get a shield with decent stability. Also helps to have some crowd thinners like lava pyro....once you kill the shaman dressed in black through each section, then the skellies stay dead no matter what you use. If you are ok dying a few times to get the lay of the land, running through without even fightin them if you know where you are going saves time, For exampe, once you know where to go to get to Vamos....the first wave of skellies can be put to death as the shaman is visible from the cliff and can be shot with a bow. The 2nd wave of skeelies that follow you will fall down a spiral staircase just before Vamos....they may not die but you can plunge on them if they survive their fall. Vamous opens a sortcut, then the rest as Appleby said is god...hire Leroy to do the pinwheel skellies and pushover boss for you and you are 2/3 done the level and can even branch into TOTG beofre clearing out the other loot in catacoms. played today for the first time since before christmas.....got halfwaythrough skyrim and then started doign the witcher series instead......sooo rusty after the witcher controls were so punishing....soooo nice when I finally got my souls groove back though....such fluid combat vs. other games....played with an AWESOME vet player who was with the series since demons release.....his kirk "toon" he called it, was two hitting the giants in anor lando and he basically killed both orn and smu for my Darkmoon project character, who didn't even have proper faith stuff yet (gravelord dance and TWOP)....he was level 25 I was 30.....what is the proper translation of "toon" character????? (sucks to be old I think)

I may not like it, but I gotta give it chance..... You could try faith, or you could add firebombs. getting into, and ranking up in the sunbro covenant was my favourite thing to do with a faith character as you eventaully get to throw lighting bolts.....Godly. BUt really, what it sounds you are lacking and craving right now is a bit of pyro. Pyro ranks with souls, not stat points....so for a new player, you can never go wrong maxing this out and deciding later if you want to switch to magic or faith. Now there are a lot of possible spoilers if you want to get instructed on this...and I can recommend a path if you want.....but for now I'll just say get a pyro glove and try that out before getting into magic or faith just yet.

-They invade ppl lower level. -DMB is the best buff in the game -WoG is the best spell in the game it pretty much takes no skill to win as a darkmoon. Throw in some havels armor, derp mask, DWGR and BKGA or Zwei and you got 80% of the Darkmoon users. I always see Darkwraiths stop fighting the host and attack Darkmoons when they invade. Makes me happy lol

Darkmoons have the worst invasion rate without counting gravelords and dragons, and I'm not that sure that they can invade people of a lower level. They do have the best buff (but not by a long stretch), but it's not anywhere close to being easy getting it. WoG is only the "best" spell because it's fast. Against experienced players WoG is just a surefire way to get backstabbed for free.

Yeah, my whole thing is I wanted to see how far I could get in this without consulting a guide/GAF at all. I think I've done pretty well so far ...though I had about 20 hours of Demon's Souls experience |

I agree. I was using a giant armor set up and dmb but I prefer darkwariths so I use sunlight blade instead. I have WOG but only use it when i'm being double teamed(often). I use an Estoc cause it's the only weapon type I really enjoy. My dex is at 40 and without buffs it is a lot of work to get a win. I went with armor that gave me no stamina penalties eventhough it's weaker and had to use the wolf ring to get my poise to 80. Started using this current armor today and so far it's a good fit for my play style and I love how it looks. So I'm going for another new game plus and want to leave as many hot pvp zones open as possible. I really want to leave forest alone but I believe the only way to gt to Darkwraith and eventually kiln for pvp is to beat sif right? Shame. How do these things work if I beat the boss in a level I can't summon anyone or be invaded while alive correct? Only I can invade others? Or Can I be invaded by darkmoon and darkwraith regardless if I beat the boss or not? |

Is the covenant of artorias tradable? I may just keep going instead of BB glitch cause I like having more than one Sunlight blade. So I guess forests for everything else is a fair trade. The Garden outside of the seal is that sif as well or is that moonlight butterfly?

It's only natural that they have the best stuff. I am a Darkmoon Blade but I never use WotG unless I find myself against 2 or 3 people or if the host himself use that miracle. With that said I saw some more annoying Darkwraiths rank 3 with Havel Armor. You attack them but since they have a lot of poise, they use it to drain 10 humanities with dark hand and flee. That's actually way more annoying to me... |

Regarding the "Story"
#8222
So yeah, while I wuv the gameplay in Dark, does the story ever become even a little more pronounced. I know it's up to alot of interpretation but still...
I dunno, at this point, while I dig the gameplay in Dark, I preferred the world/plot of Demon's alot more. I mean, I couldn't even tell you the basic plot of Dark without having to look it up =( |

I found the story much more straightforward and accessible in Dark Souls than Demon's. The very end of the game was very compelling in Demon's Souls for sure and I loved some of the characters that did not return, but I feel like I have a much clearer understanding of the world and how the pieces fit together in Dark Souls.

I love invading. I lose often, but thats how you learn. But when I do lose, its mostly 3v1s. I dont mind most of the time, but when they camp and the newbie of the bunch points down when you die.... THAT PISSES ME OFF! Fuck right off, you didn't do shit motherfucker.
If I lose, I expect a bow, and I try to do it all the time, but people are assholes.... fuck being nice.... Also, feel free to add me Sajjaja.

RE: Story
First time through I didn't pay much attention. One thing I noticed, however, was this game leaves a lot of question marks up in the air. they want the player to fill in the missing gaps. You see a lot of theory being thrown around w/ regards to who is who in the DaS universe. That's what really gets me interested in the universe. It's like the developers purposefully left out some tidbits so that players could put them together based on clues (eg, weapon descriptions, familiar insignia on enemies, little details like that). |

I really wish you had to agree to a PVP. Some asshole just comes in an ruins my run because he's been playing for months and I'm just trying to get some help for the boss. Then I have to waste another humanity. It's ridiculous that I have to stay hollow just so I don't attract any unnecessary attention when exploring a new area.

I wish I could sympathize but you're missing the point of a very high-level design decision without which the game would not be the same. If you want to avoid invasion by players, just play offline. In human form you can still summon the NPC phantoms (and you will be occasionally invaded by NPCs at a couple points in the game). |

Kiln of the First Flame - The place is kind of nuts. Five Black Knights who often drop all kinds of amazing gear plus they drop all kinds of chunks. It's almost as if the developer is giving you a great reason to NOT finish the game. After opening Kiln you can build up as many weapons as you please. There is no more choosing one path over another. You could simply farm and PVP in Kiln until you have all the upgraded weapons you want. I didn't even farm that much and I ended up with three extra weapons that I put up to +14.
Finally finished and I will put this down for a while before playing NG+. I need to play a bunch of shooters or something because I was getting a bit burned out on this. Dark Souls is just like crack and I don't enjoy being addicted to a game for this long a period. Good game though, really good. |

Playing as a darkwraith would suck if the other player had to accept the invasion. There's already the red soapstone for consensual PVP. You can enjoy all of the other online features you mentioned except for getting help from others by just remaining hollow. Getting help/being human is a double edged sword, and I think that makes sense. I can see how getting invaded your first time through the burg at a low level can sour you on the experience. But just treat it like any other death and then just stay hollow. It's not like you're swimming in humanity at that point, the only real reason to spend one is to kindle a bonfire. Co-opping Taurus the first time through is cheating yourself out of gaining experience with the game anyway.

I agree. You're gank bait in Undead Burg so better to just kill off the taurus and move on. Once you've cleared up the parish and only need to run to the boss, then you may go human but you're pretty vulnerable there as well. After that, there are so many ways to either improve or go hide that it's not much of an issue anymore. You also lose the low level invaders.

Yeah started from scratch and put stats in the right places for that build. Buffing the estoc and keeping my movement speed and stamina high as I could. I could have gone with havels ring and threw some giants armor on but eh.

I agree about people who use rude gestures when you die. I was in Blighttown and I got invaded. While I was circling the dude, one of the enemies got me from behind and killed me, and he stands there using that "well what is it!?" gesture. Fucking asshole didn't even kill me, and would have died to me, as I had him down to a fraction of HP. Douchebag. |

I like when someone invades me that isn't completely overpowered and I have a chance at killing them but I gave up on anything that involved me invading them. Every time I do I get camped and it's usually more than 1 so I have no patience to be dying like that all of the time.
Also I can't get over how ridiculously easy Pinwheel was for that point of the game. I keep asking myself "did I really kill him in 4-5 hits?". |

Well, Pinwheel is available right from the start of the game. It's possible to rush the catacombs, forge a fire weapon, and get the right of kindling before tackling the other bosses (you'll have to buy titanite shards from andre though). Even doing this though you'll probably have more trouble getting through the catacombs than with the pinwheel fight itself. It's too bad, that fight has good music. But I tend to make the catacombs an early priority now, instead of doing it along with ToTG like I used to, so I can make fire/chaos weapons.
