Any recommendations for a decent camera? I'm not looking to seriously go into photography or anything like that, but I'm looking for stuff that doesn't look like ass.

Particularly, I've got statues, figures, etc that I would like to take photographs of, and I would like to contribute better quality photos to the pickup post. 200 dollars would be the absolute maximum I'm willing to spend.

I'd rather have people dye their hair in various colours than everyone having dull, natural colours, frankly. If I wasn't balding I would be sporting pink hair as often as possible. As for red and black, those colours just go great together (in fact, I think black goes great with quite a lot of colours).

I'm not sure what you think painting the ends of guns or silencers orange is going to achieve other than standing out like a saw thumb for law enforcement to spot and catch them?

Toy guns have to have orange tips on them at the very least, for safety reasons. Kids being shot by policemen back in the 80s, etc.

It really depends on what the gun is being used for, I suppose.

Most of the time, a gun is used to intimidate, and is not actually fired. You want it to look as 'real' as possible for it to get maximum effect.

The only reason I could see for painting it like a toy is if you were planning to shoot someone in a place where there are lots of toy guns around.

I thought I wouldn't need a box spring since I have the bed base but the sale person at Macy's told me I'd still need a box spring for the mattress. She said over time, the mattress can seep through the bed base.

Ah I see. Well lets say most criminals just have guns so people don't mess with them as they rob places. If they have an orange tip on them, people might think they are toy guns, try and stop the criminals and get shot.

The criminal probably doesn't want to shoot someone, and having an orange tip would increase the chances of that happening, and make people less scared of them and more likely to intervene.

I've got a problem in Excel: I want to pull data from cells in regular intervals.
e.g.: I need the data from cells A6, A11, A16, A21,... in column B. The data from A6 goes in B1, A11 in B2, and so on.

Somehow the program doesn't realize what I'm trying to do and just gives me random intervals if I use the 'pull-down method'.

Anyone got an idea?

So at 5:30am I want to add 1.8 minutes

I use the time forumla, and it does add it, but it only adds 1 minutes, how do I work in the .8?

I don't know what to do. So I'm going to ask it here since none of you know me and can probably give me an impartial answer.

Hurricane Sandy hit us pretty hard, but we're getting by right now without needing much help. We were lucky that our house was only partially destroyed so we still have a place to live.

Meanwhile we have hundreds of friends on Facebook and IRL that keep asking "What can we do?" or "What do you need?" or "We want to help in any way we can." And my wife and I have been telling them "Thanks, but we're fine right now. We don't really need anything."

My big concern is, when the insurance companies settle everything and tell us they aren't going to help much with repairs and repurchasing all the stuff we lost, that we're going to be broke. And by then, since we've refused help from people, they won't want to help any more.

So my question is, am I doing my family a disservice by refusing to accept help from people offering it? Since we mainly need money for repairing or replacing stuff in our home, should I just be telling my friends "We need money" because that doesn't feel right to me. I was raised to not accept hand-outs from people. I'm just worried that, without taking charity we're going to really struggle.

What should I do?

You shouldn't feel like you're receiving hand-outs if your home has just went through a disaster. You could ask if your friends have some spare furniture in storage or something. And if you feel like you've got enough to buy some furniture of your own once you recover financially, you can always give it back.

i has just joined the 20th Century [sic] and bought myself a television that allows me to watch video stored on a USB memory stick. Woo!

So what app would you nerdy types recommend to rip my DVDs to watch in this way please?

'Best' in this case means:

  • freeware
  • user friendly/easy to use for non AV savvy types i.e. me
  • decent quality [just like DVD rips that some people might acquire off teh internets]
  • enables me to get rid of those enforced trailers and copyright time sinks

I should add that I do have a DVD player but would far rather do the above.

Anything out there we missed on HBO of FX that's only 2 or 3 seasons long that's a must see?

Only two seasons long (unfortunately), and one of the best shows ever on HBO.

Never had HBO so I know we've missed a lot. We did sit down to Band of Brothers and Pacific so we know there is tremendous quality there.

Deadwood, Deadwood, Deadwood! (3 seasons)

Rome and Carnivale are good choices as well (only 2 seasons for both shows).

since i can't make a new thread i'll ask here.

last night after i had a coughing fit, my body below the neck was all tingly and weak. i walked around like wtf am i dying, but it went away after a few minutes. this has happened once before and both times it happened after i had a coughing fit.

my doctor says i have carpal tunnel but i don't think it is. only happens after the cough.

Carpal Tunnel is a repetitive stress syndrome of the wrist/forearm so that's definitely not it. Sounds to me like maybe you have low blood pressure?

I see a lot of people posting pics and gif, do I have to reupload every photo or gif that I want to post or I can just search and use the first link that I find? For the avatar, I can use and modify any photo that I find and use it as my avatar? What about credit, copyright, etc...

Standard netiquette is to rehost rather than hotlink, especially on a forum with this much traffic. Just use imgur or minus.

For the avatar, I can use and modify any photo that I find and use it as my avatar? What about credit, copyright, etc...

I mean, theoretically there should probably be credit given or licensing fees or whatever... but in practical terms, it's just an avatar. Nobody's too bothered about that. You can use whatever you want within forum decorum standards.

There's an album I'm thinking about buying on iTunes; some of the tracks listed for it say "Album Only", and some have £0.99 prices. If I download the album, will I get ALL the songs listed, or just the ones marked "Album Only"?

You should get all of them. "Album Only" means it's only available if you buy the whole album, and can't be bought as a single track.

That's not true. You either buy a base like you did or a box spring, not both. A cheap foam mattress might seep through over time, but it shouldn't be a problem with a good spring mattress.

Alright, these are really stupid questions I'm about to ask. At Thanksgiving one of my little cousins brought over a few sheets of brain teasers. As you can see, most are completely obvious, but there are a few which stumped me. Namely, numbers 9-12 and 14. Can anyone help? This has been bothering me since I saw them, haha! :)
