What's the best way to negate blur when forcing supersampling?
Because I was dicking around with Half-Life 2, and tried out 32xS [Combined: 2x2 SS + 8x MS]. Which you'd think would result in air fucking tight crystal clear image quality. That's a 2x2 super sampled image (from 1920x1080), with 8xMSAA applied on top, downsampled to 1080p. But instead I get an incredible amount of image blurring. First image is 32xSSAA. Latter image is the in-engine 16xQ CSAA. Outside of needing some transparency sampling, the latter clearly looks a lot cleaner and nicer than the former. Even though the former is, to my knowledge, using a superior form of anti-aliasing. So what gives? Is it a dud anti-aliasing compatibility? Negative LOD required? ![]()

Whaaat? It's supersampling right? At 1080p it would render like 66million pixel. lol Framerate? |

But, with those settings, I get 60fps+ in Half-Life 2. Thanks dude. I'll force some transparency AA to clean up the transparent textures, and just use the in-engine 16xQ. Which, to be honest, looks pretty damn great anyway. |

Yep. It's the 'highest' combination super sampling. There's also an option for 4x4 SSAA, but you cant combine it with MSAA. And I hear you cant apply it to 1920x1080 images anyway.
Not that it's worth it with Half-Life 2. As per above, it blurs the ever loving shit out of Source, negating any good the anti-aliasing might be. |

Guild Wars 2 Beta - 1.5x1.5 OGSSAA + FXAA

![]() ![]() Server instability issues aside, I'm loving this game right now. I've read in general chat that there are ~50,000 people are playing right now and it's only been up for about 4 hours or so. The graphics are amazing; I just played GW1 this morning and it's like night and day. I don't think my shots are doing it justice, but I'll keep posting what I can. Maybe the next few will be without FXAA. My settings are not at max right now, because my framerate drops to the low 20's even with an overclocked GTX 570 and i5 2500K.

dat magical fabric
![]() ![]() It's probably one of the only games that fully captures what I imagine medieval clothes were like. The wealthy had some of the most rich and vibrant fabrics you could think of, full of colour and jewels.

Nope, first off the singelplayer is a complete separate .exe so that isn't an issue. Second, I have used the multiplayer fix for about 2-3 weeks now and I haven't been banned and there have been no reports of bannings for using it. Valve has acknowledged it's existence.

Not too bad. At 1.5x1.5 OGSSAA with shaders and shadows set at medium, it's been fairly fluid for the most part (avg 45 fps). I don't see that much of a dip in performance when I go up to 2x2 OGSSAA; it's only when I start turning up shadows and shaders that it starts getting really sluggish.
