The ordering doesn't tell us too much but i find it interesting that mrio jumped in front of monster hunter. could be a big week for mario or maybe a decent dropoff for monster hunter. Still pretty crazy to see 3DS with the top 4 spots and i get the feeling this type of thing is going to be very common this year.

Yeah it does look to be the case. It might end up doing better than I expected after all. Level 5 still needs to address the drop in interest their series get after finishing complete trilogies though. They should definitely be investing in new stable IPs in the long run, and I think it would be smarter if they don't group them into "trilogies" or other such finite narrative blocks. Instead making each game a stand alone title in an on-going series would work much better.

The level of milking of the Layton and Inazuma IP was/is quite high. |

With Go Vacation and Family Fishing success, I wonder why third party abandoned Wii so early in Japan. There IS a market for certain type of games.
On the other hand, it could very well be because there are no other alternatives so these two games would perform this well. |

I can't speak to its general popularity, but the games don't seem to have been very big deals. PS2 NightFire and Everything or Nothing look to have been the biggest; Wii Goldeneye is about matching NightFire through its Top 30 disappearance.
More recently, Quantum of Solace sold about 30K--between four platforms. |
