It's one season.

Let's remember that it looked like the Wildcat was going to change offenses. One year later, the Wildcat was all but shut down.

If he does bolt I'd say the leading candidates are:

1) Peterson
2) Dungy
3) Bellotti

We would retain Alliotti and probably Helfrich. One thing most don't know is that Oregon has the longest tenured coaching staffs (overall) in CFB.

Dungy is old and I dont see him coaching CFB, regardless if his son is on the team or not.

Dungy isn't going to coach Oregon. That's delusional even for you, Push.

I don't see why Chip would leave Oregon at this point. This next team's got a chance to be the best in Oregon history even with Darron leaving. My buddy the Oregon fan has always been convinced that Chip would leave in the next five years for a better job, but I just don't see what sane NFL FO would take a shot at him. He runs a system predicated on using speed and tempo to outpace the other team - not to mention he's been able to recruit better athletes due to the Nike brand and the sheer amount of money that Knight's pushed into the school.

That advantage doesn't exist in the NFL. People are going to point at Chudz's success with Cam this year or Tebow's success on sprint outs. Sure. The reality is that the league has seen offensive gimmicks before, and the defenses have found answers the next season. See the Wildcat. Everyone and their mother was running Wildcat plays after the Phins had success. Two seasons later, nobody was running it. Hell, Parcells even wasted a second round pick on Pat White.

I personally doubt that Kelly hops over to the pros. He's got it going for him in Eugene. Even if he does, I'd like to see him try to convince millionaires to run windsprints to keep in shape for a constant no huddle. Or, you know, Josh Freeman to lay off the Taco Bell.

The whole reason, as speculated, is that Oregon is going to get hit with sanctions, maybe some that would force him out. If that happens, NFL is his only choice.

Several NFL teams are running up-tempo offenses and doing so with great success. Not spread-option, but I don't think it's beyond Kelly to be able to adapt to the strengths of NFL defenses.

I'm more concerned about sanctions at this point. I don't think it's incredibly likely that they'll be on USC or OSU's level but who knows. A change of coaches doesn't scare me that bad as long as we keep most of the staff intact.

Using a hurry up isn't novel. Every team (that is not the Broncos) has an abbreviated playbook for situations that require them.

Chip's system built on the read option and getting the other team running sideline to sideline. That's not a problem in the NFL - every defense is able to run sideline to sideline.

You can point to Cam and Tebow having success with read options this season. Sure. But I have reason to believe that defenses will find an answer for it given a full offseason.

I don't see why somebody that's financially established, enjoys a leisurely media job and has finally taken the time out of coaching to spend time with his family would want to go back into coaching.

Not to mention that he'd spend half his time convincing cocky, entitled high schoolers to bless Tony Dungy with their presence for 3 years.

That said, I'm sure Oregon will find plenty of takers for that job. Unlimited Knight money to spend on exposure, flashy highlight reels and uniforms. Autzen has awesome atmosphere. Beautiful part of the country. And Eugene's the hippy capital of the world. What's not to love?

We were exceptional in 2000-2001 (screwed out of the BCS title game in 2001) but yeah, for the most part we were good, not great before he got there.

2007 - Went from 7-6 to 8-1/#2/Heisman before Dixon's knee.
2008 - 10-3 beat up Oklahoma State in the Holiday Bowl
2009 - Rose Bowl loss
2010 - MNC loss
2011 - Rose Bowl win

I said consistently before chip arrived, sure they had their moments here and there. Oregon was the B1G equivalent of Iowa before chip arrived, was always an ok team with some good to great years sprinkled in. It has been impressive what chip has done since his arrival, making them Pac-10 contenders nearly every year, and recently title contenders.

That's what I said too, albeit awkwardly worded. We were always good/decent; and occasionally great. Typically, we would start 6-0 before finishing 7-5ish.

I think the spread-option can work in the NFL, sort of. It's a sound system. You can say people figured it out against the Broncos, but they were just playing teams that were better than them. Someone said mentioned how a team with a dominant DL can beat it, but what system would work against a dominant DL?

The biggest issue is having a QB who can last the season. Tebow and Cam can take the hits, but I'm not sure even they could take last a full season. NFL teams pay QBs too much money to design a system that requires them to take so many hits. Regardless, some of the ideas, like the read-option, can work fine. Several NFL teams still use it every now and then. I've seen Vick do it, and I'm pretty sure the 49ers did it for a play or two today.

I just remember when people used to say you couldn't run a spread passing game in the NFL. But now all the high powered offenses in the NFL run the spread.

Stanford is gonnago back to being Stanford next year. They're good for a run every so often but the farm isn't the kind of place you can be successful for long.

Read the link I posted; gives you some insight if he indeed goes.

I think Cal actually has the best chance of competing next year in the North next year.

Down South:
Arizona will improve behind a good running game.
ASU will regress and Todd Graham will get fired/take the job at Northern Arizona.
Utah will improved, finish 2nd.
UCLA will finish 6-6.
USC will probably go 12-0 unless Oregon can challenge.
Colorado will go 3-9.

It's crazy because they had their Rose Bowl ceremony during halftime of the UCLA/Oregon game yesterday at Matt Knight Arena. Kelly gave an inspired speech and a SHIT-TON of recruits were there visiting this weekend.
