I had 35 confidence points on Alabama over LSU.

I'm always right....

Another year, another $60 million highschool football stadium is being built in Texas

Quote:

I don't know where they are getting the money from. The district my mom works for is laying off teachers left and right, we have overcrowded classrooms, and still the district gives millions of dollars every year to the more poor districts across the state due to the mandatory "Robin Hood Act". In other words, our district is one of the wealthier districts in the state, and we're bankrupt. I don't see how Allen ISD can be doing so well. Donors?

I quoted the images so they could be smaller

Well that's not right. Our district gives money through robin hood, and we're still poor and have to lay off teachers and overcrowd classrooms. Allen is a recipient of Robin Hood and they can build $60 million dollar stadiums?? As much as Texans fear the idea of socialism, I'm surprised we're all okay with this system.

Having gone to one of the richest schools in the state I will say that it doesn't surprise me at all. Everything is based on TAKS scores and if you can kind of read you can pass that test. As far as I know you can even take it in Spanish for fucks sake.

More on topic...there are boosters for these stadiums just like you have in college. High School footbaw in Texas is big money especially if you are a ford dealer or an orthodontist or some shit.

I hear you, I live in Plano and they're always in a struggle to pay teachers, and on top of that we had to give money to Allen who was off building state of the art athletic facilities. Allen was pretty much a shit hole until the late 90s, and then the area exploded in terms of population and money. They've only gotten upgraded to a robin hood district recently.

Cam Newton Loophole now Closed

Quote:
INDIANAPOLIS - A year and a day after Cam Newton led Auburn to a football national championship, the NCAA closed the loophole that allowed him to play.

By Mark J. Terrill, AP

The association's Division I legislative council endorsed a measure Wednesday expanding its definition of an agent to encompass third-party influences - including family members - who directly or indirectly market an athlete for profit as Newton's father tried to do as the quarterback was being recruited out of junior college.
Among the specific targets: anyone who "seeks to obtain any type of financial gain or benefit from securing a prospective student-athlete's enrollment at an educational institution or a from a student-athlete's potential earnings as a professional athlete."
BLOG: Auburn releases documents from NCAA investigation
Such activity by an agent would render the athlete ineligible.
In those cases, the new measure also would apply an agent's tag to contract advisors, financial advisors, marketing representatives, brand managers "or anyone who is employed by or associated with such persons." Where the NCAA currently monitors agent activity in regard to marketing athletes to professional teams, the proposal adds approaches to colleges.
The issue has boiled since the 2010 football season and revelations that Newton's father unsuccessfully sought six-figure payment from Mississippi State for the player's recruiting commitment. The younger Newton claimed no knowledge of the infraction and, with that, the NCAA said it had no recourse under current rules to suspend him.
Newton went on to win the Heisman Trophy and lead Auburn to the title. NCAA President Mark Emmert vowed to address the issue.
"It was important for us to shore that up and make sure we were encompassing all individuals, probably as we all had intended (in the past)," said Carolyn Campbell-McGovern, deputy executive director of the Ivy League and chair of the NCAA legislative council. "It also speaks not only to who's covered but also the scope. Trying to do it is a violation, not just actually receiving money."
The change goes into effect immediately as long as the Division I board of directors doesn't quash or delay it when it meets Saturday in conjunction with the NCAA's annual convention.

I don't follow recruiting, but it seems like I every time I read the OKC paper online, OU is losing some recruit or having some other guy transfer. Now Mike Stoops is coming back, only they are waiting for the guy they are firing but not really to get another job before announcing he's coming back. Oh, and Venables is fine with the obvious demotion.

What the hell happened to that program? Now Bob Stoops is doing interviews about making sure he doesn't burn himself by grinding himself down? I guess as long as he can beat UT out of 4th place he's happy

edit: Holgo offering Venables DC job at WVU? That actually works out for everyone

Threadless has released a set of 11 University mascot shirts. Some of these are insanely cool. Also there's one for Illionis...

http://www.threadless.com/curated/college/

Here's a few of the better ones. USC Warrior is my favorite. Simple and clean, but also awesome looking.

USC Warrior

LSU Tigers

Cal Golden Bears

Alabama

Georgia

Really hoping they add more. The ones in this initial set are all pretty great. I'd love an FSU one.

From here:

Quote:
We have heard several disturbing things about Steele's possible psychological breakdown during the Orange Bowl game. Multiple sources have said that he was calling plays from his days with the Panthers, which aren't in the Clemson playbook, and as such the players were totally confused. It reportedly happened during the Auburn game as well. I do not know if that is true, and frankly think it a bit farfetched, but I do know that Steele has a reputation for being a nervous wreck on gamedays. I'm sure most of you recall that he passed out on the sidelines during a game, and I have heard many times that he requires an IV for fluids because he's such a wreck and won't eat at all on gameday. Hopefully he can get these things corrected for his own health.
