Well, there's Spurrier vs. Miles :P

Alabama @ Missouri should be...different. Maybe I'll know who Missouri is by then.

We've already been together 9 and a half years, and we are both huge football fans. I'm in the clear from most of the traditional wedding stuff. Hell, I remember our anniversary of when we met far more often than she does.

So, they are doing a movie based on the TV show, that was based on the film, that was based on the book?

Also, I dunno how people do the House Divided relationship.

Will be interesting to see what they do for the movie.... they left the series in a pretty good spot which would make it somewhat difficult for the series to continue (unless its going to take place with his new team)

My fiancee is a Gator although she went to FSU. I didn't know her allegiances when we started dating... probably wouldn't have done it if I'd known better!

The rumor over the weekend is that Clemson and FSU to the Big 12 is heating up again. As a UT season ticket holder, great.. but I'd hate to have to deal with local hate again!

Those FSU / ISU matchups ought to have a great turnout. Closest league opponent would be WVU?

Seriously, this still makes even less sense than WVU to B12. At least WVU was bailing on the BEAST.

Good news for the Clemson-UGA games in the next couple years. It was mutually agreed to up the cancellation penalty:

Quote:
Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips wrote in a letter to Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity on April 17 that serves as an addendum to the game contract that “despite conference realignment and the expected increase in conference games required by the Atlantic Coast Conference, we are both committed to maintaining the football series between Clemson Universiy and the University of Georgia to play football in 2013 and 2014. To further solidify that commitment and protect either institution from the loss of revenue should either game within that series be cancelled without mutal consent, we have agreed to amend section 15 of the contract agreement and set the cancellation fee at $3,000,000.” Both athletic directors have signed the addendum.

At least those far-off opponents are worth traveling for in the Big 12. WVU, OU, UT, OSU, TCU, etc. No more epic road trips to play Boston College or Maryland.

And I'm sure the money would be more than the ACC could offer. Greatly improves the football brand of the new Big 12, expands the imprint to Florida and the Carolinas, and gives FSU and Clemson more money and access to Texas recruits.

Clemson, like Texas A&M, is an irrational actor. They are crazy, and they do crazy things.

FSU just cares about football, and the B12 will give them more money in that regard.

I think you could make the case that there are only 3 strong leagues right now.... the SEC, BIG10 and PAC12. Everybody else is up for grabs.

I think we will see a 4th out of the remaining conferences that steps up to the level of the big 3. Then you will see the big 4 cherry pick out of the remaining conferences to get 4 really strong 16 league teams and will finally create a good playoff system where each conference sends its champion.

I understand all of that, but how many away games does the average fan now attend? Travel expenses would also be significantly higher, as the bus trips are traded for flight tickets.

That said, I'm all for anything that gives the North Carolina and Virginia schools a reason to consider moving to the SEC.

I would think that ease of travel for fans is a minor concern for most schools. The bulk of money comes from TV rights and home game ticket/concessions/merch sales, and you have to think that both FSU and Clemson would make more from home games too if they're playing a Big 12 schedule instead of an ACC one.

Geography is the only major knock against it IMO, but that didn't stop the Big 12 from grabbing WVU.

Because the FSU AD is in debt, and the ACC media deal is about 2 million less per year then the Big 12 one is.

At the moment, it is a threat. They aren't happy with the ACC media contract, and hoping to use a realignment threat to get the Conference Commissioner to start making noise.

I believe all told the Big 12 makes about 5 million more per school per year then the ACC.

That's music to the ears of an athletic department that just announced a 2.7 million dollar shortfall: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...postcount=4739

Sorry, underestimated amount per school per year with Big 12 and ACC.

ACC makes 8 million pspy less then the Big 12, and that's with the tier 3 rights in the ACC. Each school in the Big 12 controls their own tier 3 rights, and aren't covered in these deals.

cha-ching! If I was the FSU AD, I would move to the Big12 YESTERDAY if offered. In one year you could turn a ~3 million deficit into a ~5 million surplus! (minus the difference in travel costs but the ACC has some schools far away from Talahassee as well so it wouldn't be that much more costly )

I can't speak for Clemson, but us FSU fans do not travel well at all. Our team got big in the 80s and 90s, when it started becoming easy to watch college football on TV. As a result, we have a massive TV fanbase (highest rated non-BCS bowl last two years in a row), but we don't travel well at all except maybe to Gainesville. The next closest big school is GA Tech and they are 5 hours away (Miami is 8 hours).

In terms of academics, I know it's a huge downgrade, but as far as the athletic programs are concerned, I'd love to see FSU and Clemson go to the Big 12. Just being a South Carolina fan, I know it would shut up about 80% of the fanbase that blasts Clemson's ACC opponents, but honestly, I love to see some good Clemson/Oklahoma, Clemson/Texas, and Clemson/West Virginia (whoops!) match ups. I'd just love to get the chance to see Oklahoma play again (one semester of OU on the transcript baby!).

Hmm?

I mean ACC makes 12 million per school per year on Tier 1, 2, and 3 rights.
The Big 12 makes 20 million per school per year on just Tier 1 and 2 rights, and they just verbally agreed to extend this deal to 2025.

Texas makes another 10 million on top of that with the mythical LHN.

Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas A&M, all pretty much begged to get out of the Big 12 and get away from Texas. Oklahoma probably would have been gone also if not for Oklahoma St. Even, with the extra money, would FSU really want to get rid of all of their southern rivalries, join a conference that was recently on the brink of destruction, and make their closest away game over 800 miles away?

Well, we would maintain a rivalry with Florida for sure, and almost certainly with Miami. Outside of that, our biggest rival in the ACC is Clemson and they could be moving too. We'd lose our "rivalry" with Virginia, but nobody gives a shit about that.

As for the rest of your reasons, I agree. I don't like the idea of being so far away from all the other teams.

8 million per year plus tier 3 rights.

No matter what, you consider that.
