Tropico 4 Expansion Pack: Modern Times announced (360 and PC) #1

Just saw this on Twitter.

Quote:
The times are changing and the island nation of Tropico is evolving. The Internet, a New World Order, terrorists, global financial markets and space exploration are on the rise and pose new challenges to El Presidente and his regime in Tropico 4: Modern Times.

Old buildings and structures are becoming obsolete and need to be upgraded or even replaced by their modern counterparts. Cars and transportation need modernization to meet the needs of a changing economy; and now El Presidente can even send people to the International Space Station! El Presidente and his ministers must now join the war against terror and control Internet regulation and freedom of speech on Tropico.
Teaser
Release date: March of 2012.

Key Features
  • Make Tropico fit for the 21st century: Evolve the island from the Cold War era to modern times and even into the future
  • 30 new buildings become available as time progresses, including condos, skyscrapers, organic ranches and biofarms. Replace obsolete buildings with these modern and inspiring designs.
  • Upgrade old buildings to new variants – modernized apartment buildings, banks, museums and much more
  • 10 new edicts allow even more control over your citizens’ lives. Block or limit citizens’ Internet use, create a police state or be a “good guy” and launch the Festival of Love edict.
  • New single player campaign comprised of 12 comprehensive scenario missions. Protect Tropico from unseen and sinister forces.

And yeah its weird me making a non Fighting Game related thread :s

I'm in.

Tropico 4 is great, many improvements over Tropico 3 that leads to an overall much better experience.

It always seemed weird that they game would let you progress from 1950 to like 2050 and never advance in technology.

I have Tropico 3 on PC is the sequel a 'noticeable' improvement? And even more important: Can you play as Eva Peron?

I picked up 4 during the Amazon sale a few weeks back and have been having a blast although the construction workers are still a fucking shambles.

There are some changes to the UI but honestly.. it isn't all that different. Same buildings, same crop types, same ore types, same everything more or less. Graphics didn't seem noticably better either to be honest. Same dictrators available including Eva.

If you like the series though, it's definitely worth snagging on the cheap.

I noticed quite a bit of new structures in the brief clip. This is interesting, I still have get Tropico 4 so hopefully this will come in a bundle sometime down the line.

As Meier said it's not a noticeable improvement. I like the UI better, seems a bit better balanced, with a few extra features, but overall very much Tropico 3.5. It plays well though and if you can get it cheap it's worth it.

I'm dying here. I've never played a Tropico game before, but I think he just sold me on it.

Check out the Tropico 4 demo (on steam too), one single mission with some content locked but I'm sure it gives a good look of the game. Guided mission that lasts an hour or so. Haven't played the full version myself either, kind of hoping for a sale once this expansion releases as I enjoyed the demo a lot.

Had a pretty good time with Tropico 4. Might pick this up, but won't consider it if it's over $20. Looking for $15 ideally.

I loved the idea of Tropico 3 but I never really understood what the game was. Maybe I should get back into it and try again.

Finally, putting Tropico in a modern (well, modern modern) setting is something I've been itching for!

Nice preview. El Presidente rides again. Plenty of new interesting structures to play around with.

The metro station is a huge improvement. Most of my island designs were focused on traffic alleviation.

Okay, really loving the expansion. I kinda wish there's an easier way to convert an existing building to its modern version, but I guess it'd be tricky (e.g. farms vs. bio farms - latter are bigger).

The DLC is out on Xbox Marketplace today, got delayed by a week due to technical woes or something.

Any impressions?

I love Tropico 4, but this is more than I paid for the game on a Steam Sale. Will wait until it goes down in price.

I played the game during the Steam free weekend. After the first hour I was HOOKED! It was just the game I wanted. But after a day of playing it I got bored as fuck. The game is so one dimensional.

I think that was the wrong term to use but it just felt like I was doing the same thing. Building a city that has a good enough economy to stay afloat while meeting some objects here and there.

Might just be the genre. I feel the same with the sims and simcity. I can play them for 10+ hours straight and then get bored. But half a year later, I can start a new sim/city and get that rush again.

Hmmmm... what were you expecting >.<?

Its a sim, you build stuff and try to balance stuff.

I do get burnt out by these types of games though after awhile. But I still enjoy them abit.

Also love the music!

You should mix-match your playstyle so that you wont' get bored.

Yeah maybe. I guess playing this after Civilization V had something to do with it.

I still wish there was some game that mixed Tropico with something like say Nationstates and Democracy 2.
