![]() We've had the (fantastic) "What's this P90X workout stuff?" thread by bishoptl himself now for nearing 3 years and with P90X2 freshly out I figured it may be time to make the thread official. I actually started with P90X so it is plenty do-able (I was in bad shape when I started) but P90 may be better for some of you. http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...ams/power90.do ![]() Exercises Sculpt Circuit 1–2: Easy moves that work to tone, firm, and strengthen your entire body. (29 minutes) Sweat Cardio 1–2: Fun, innovative cardio moves, kickboxing, Pilates, and more to burn fat and shed inches fast! (42 minutes) Ab Ripper 100 & 200: Two ab routines guaranteed to give you the flat, sexy six-pack abs you've always wanted. (4 minutes; 6 minutes) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() P90X is the follow-up to Power 90 and is a DVD-based workout program developed by Tony Horton and the CEO of BeachBody Carl Daikeler. The purpose of the program is to get you in top shape in just 90 days using muscle confusion and a variety of workouts from all types of fitness. What do I need for P90X? Less than you may think. You can do all of P90X with an open area (living room, bedroom, etc.) a pull-up bar (examples below) and some resistance bands or dumbbells. Extra equipment you may want would be push-up bars, the P90X chin-up Max, and a yoga block/mat see below for examples. • Pull-Up Bars: *Note: Most pull-up bars also double as push-up bars. P90X Chin-up Bar by Beachbody - $60 - http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...chin_up_bar.do ![]() Iron Gym Total Body (the one I have, found it at Target) - $25 – http://www.amazon.com/Iron-Total-Upp...6741256&sr=8-1 Pro-Source Heavy Duty Easy Gym Doorway Chin-Up/Pull-Up Bar - $30 - http://www.amazon.com/ProSource-Heav...6741256&sr=8-3 • P90X Chin-Up Max To help you do pull-ups if you are weak like me. :P http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...pull-up-bar.do • Resistance Bands Just be sure to get some decent bands that don’t have any worn spots or tears and come decently rated. You’ll probably want at least 3 different tensions and a door anchor. B-LINES Extreme Kit (Beachbody) - $40 - http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...extreme_kit.do Black Mountain Resistance Band Set - $30 - http://www.amazon.com/Black-Mountain...6741474&sr=8-1 • Push-Up Bars Tony Horton’s Power Stands (Beachbody) - $40 - http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...powerstands.do GoFit Push-Up Bars - $13 - http://www.amazon.com/GoFit-GF-PUB-P...6741622&sr=1-2 • Yoga Block Yoga Block (Beachbody) - $17 - http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...yoga_blocks.do • Yoga/Jump Mat Beachbody Jump Mat - $20 - http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...ear/jumpmat.do ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() P90X2 is the (you guessed it) follow up to P90X. The program suggests doing P90 or P90X before P90X2. P90X2 is a bit shorter than P90X on the weekly scale going to 5 days and 2 rest/stretch days as opposed to 6 and 1. Yoga was also shortened from an hour and a half to 67 minutes. What do I need for P90X2? Similar to P90X you can do the whole series with just a pull-up bar and bands or dumbbells. However this time around Tony has added a number of extra options for those who want to get the best results. The main additions you will see are an exercise ball, medicine balls, and a foam roller. These are utilized in nearly every workout and can enhance the program if you would like them. Packages: P90X2 Base ![]() • 12 workouts on 13 DVDs or 4 Blu-ray™ discs • P90X2™ Fitness Guide • P90X2 Nutrition Guide • P90X2 Workout Calendar P90X2 Deluxe ![]() • Includes everything in P90X2 Base kit, plus: • 2 additional extreme P90X2™ workouts • 1 Foam Roller • 1 55cm PREMIUM Stability Ball • 2 8-lb. The program is run by Shaun T, an awesome motivator and coach. The program features a lot of cardio moves and less breaks to get you results. It lasts for 60 days. What do I need for Insanity? You! There is no equipment required for Insanity. It uses your own body weight to get you drenched in sweat. ![]() Exercises 1: Dig Deeper & Fit Test 2: Plyometric Cardio Circuit 3: Cardio Power & Resistance 4: Cardio Recovery 5: Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs 6: Core Cardio & Balance 7: Max Interval Circuit & Fit Test 8: Max Interval Plyo 9: Max Cardio Conditioning & Cardio Abs 10: Max Recovery ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() Insanity: Asylum is a more sports-oriented version of Insanity. It utilizes an agility ladder and jump rope. The workout is hosted by Shaun-T and lasts 30 days. The emphasis in Asylum is to do the workouts and build up to the "Game Day" workout each week that combines all you've learned and worked on in the previous days. What do I need for Insanity Asylum? You'll need the agility ladder and jump rope, both come with the set. They show you how to do the jump rope exercises if you do not have room to jump in your home. ![]() Exercises 1: Speed & Agility 2: Vertical Plyo 3: Relief 4: Strength 5: Game Day 6: Back to Core ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() Insanity Asylum Volume 2 is the follow up to Asylum and provides more Shaun T and more sports-oriented training. DC’s Tips • You won’t be able to do everything they do your first week, month, or even at all. My first day I literally did 10 real push-ups and maybe 1/5th of the workout. You cannot let that get you down. When I finished I went back to that same workout and did 100+ push-ups. Just do as Tony says “Do your best and forget the rest.” • Pace yourself. Some of the workouts you’ll go through a bunch of moves, and then go through them again. Don’t kill yourself on round 1. • Eat right! P90x will work much better if you watch what you eat. So I've started to hit the gym, only been at it a few weeks, buy I'm feeling good. I go about 3-4 times a week, and I tend to focus on core/chest/arms. Should I try to augment my workout with p90(n)? Maybe do less gym or a custom home workout? What's your suggestion gaf, I'm 165lb, 6', ideally I just want noticeable pecs, mildly larger arms, more pronounced abs with my spare tire mostly gone. I realise I've been blessed with good genes, as even as unhealthy and inactive as I've been, my body has stayed surprisingly fit. I just want to be a bit more fit.

I also like that it is 5 days + 2 rest/stretch days instead of 1. It also helps that yoga is a bit better and only 67 minutes now. My biggest thing with P90X was that I got burnt out by day 90. Great so far! Lost 4 pounds last week between P90X2 and eating better. |

Yoga was my most hated workout with P90X. Too long and it just bored me. Eventually I just replaced it with other stuff. I'm excited to try this. But, as last time, my eating habits won't change. I saw an commercial the other day for some other program the P90X guy is doing. 10 minute trainer, or something like that. Anyone tried that? |

I love the foam roller! Hits the right spots. I'm at the end of week 1 of P90X2 today.
Sorta OT, but if anyone is looking to buy the Blu-ray versions of P90X2 Base and P90X2 Deluxe for a little cheaper than the official sites, PM me! These are brand new from Beach Body. |

That would minimize water weight right? Weighing myself when I first get up every Monday with nothing in my system? |

This picture? uhh I can explain really!

Definitely subscribed. I'm on day 28 of P90X. I feel GREAT. This is just what I needed, honestly. I just got done with the "rest" week (Core Synergistics, X Stretch, and Yoga X) and am ready to get right back into weight lifting. I've missed it!

Fantastic thread! I was a long-time lurker in the original thread.
I made it through 60 days of P90X on two separate occasions. It seemed like I always burned out around the 2 month mark for whatever reason. My suspicion is that the workouts in Phase 3 didn't change. I'm currently on week2 of P90X2 and having a blast. It's definitely not as shocking to the system right out of the gate as P90X. I'm optimistic I can make it through the full 90 days since each phase consists of different exercises/DVDs. Still need to pick up a damn foam roller. |

Been doing P90X for just over a year now. Mostly to keep in shape since I sit at a desk all day.
Took some time off of P90X to try some other workout series but P90X pretty much destroys everything else I've spent any time at in terms of results if you're consistent. I'd like to try P90X2 but I'm terrified at how much it'd hurt me (I remember the first month of horror when I first started P90X). |

I even have a HD foam roller already so I'm curious how they work that into the workouts. |

They use the roller in place of the normal P90X stretching. The X2 Recovery + Mobility that you can do on rest days shows you all you can do with it, they spend like 25 minutes on it. In regular workouts it's about 5 minutes where normal stretches would be. |

Great OP. I was literally looking at this a couple nights ago and was confused by there being a p90x 2. Now everything makes sense. Had two overweight friends do this with great results. I'm not overweight at all, more thinking about doing this to get in good shape and stay healthy.

Maybe it would be a good idea to compile a list of P90X/X2 graduates in the OP from GAF. Not that we'd all be good coaches etc., but I know that talking to my co-worker who was a graduate when I first started helped out a lot. He totally helped me along and I've been doing my best here to pay it forward.

Focus more on the mirror and how your clothes fit. A pound of fat is about 3500 calories. So keep that in mind when (if you do) you weigh yourself. So in your instance, you would have had to been at a 14000 calorie deficit for the week.

Just wanted to say excellent OP, well done. Would've helped me quite a bit starting up P90X. So, can we lock that other thread now?
I may give P90X2 a shot when i'm all done with the OG, but damn if I don't see myself going through P90X1 first at least twice before jumping onto that. |

Great stuff :D
I just did Week 2 of Arms and Shoulders. First one I manage to do all the way. I'm having to do a kilo less for my left arm though since my left arm isn't as strong as my right :( Hopefully I can synchronize them in time. Either way, I can see the progress. The biceps are growing :D I think I will post up what I eat later so perhaps you guys can give me some tips on how I could improve the diet/switch foods around :) |

"Tone" isn't a "thing." "Tone" is just the building of muscle and the dropping of fat. Do anything enough and you're gonna build muscle, even body weight. If you want proof look at some convict training videos. You toned because you reduced your body fat, not because you chose bands over dumbbells.

Weigh yourself once a week in the morning, always do it on the same day. My weight can go up or down by 1-3lbs a day over my weekly base weight. |

Subscribed, finished P90x this past summer and it was the best thing I could have possibly done for myself. I stopped over the fall since I was in constant study mode for school =(. Though last week I did do 4 days and this week I'm going to start another round properly.

I did P90X twice and loved it. I've expressed my frustrations with P90X2 in the previous thread and don't want to beat a dead horse. However, P90X2 did introduce me to the foam roller, and for that, I love it.
If you are looking to get off the couch and get started in fitness, I highly recommend them both. |

Nice OT, subscribed. I finished the first P90X using the alternate band and door latch techniques instead of a pull-up bar. I was wondering if P90X2 uses the pull-up bar as much as the first, and if so, had a question regarding pull-up bars and door frames. The one door I have near my TV doesn't actually have a door, and rather it is a rectangular living room "archway". If anyone here knows, do pull-up bars work with this type of door? It's about 3 feet wide, 7 feet tall, and probably 5 or 6 inches thick at the top.

I would not recommend this. Use the same same weight in both hands and stop your set when your form goes south, regardless of how great the right arm feels. Trust me, your weaker arm will get there in time.

I did p90x, hard shit. What I liked about it was that I didn't really have to try to get tired. I just did. Most physically exerting things I do take me a while to get out of breath....not this, I was dying especially on Plyo days lol
Then I tried Insanity. Oh god. Super difficult. Thinking about doing p90x2 just cuz its new lol. Haven't done either of the aforementioned workouts in the last year or so but I've stayed in shape. FYI, all this did was get me a little more cut and able to do hella pullups and pushups. Nothing much else in the way of strength gains. I guess I was already decently cut to begin with, and didn't follow the diet at all haha...oh well ALSO, I had something else to say but forgot. If I remember I"ll post it. |
