Wombat's Bane impression was awful. He needs to take acting lessons from Phil on Player One Podcast.
Also Wombat refusing to admit he made a big show of publically boycotting CBS, even when confronted with his own words, was somewhat infuriating. Im guessing he was just trolling to get a rise out of Cheapy. |

I'm listening to it a second time and now that I know about the audio problem from Wombat it does make sense. He did start out kind of happy and enthusiastic and by 13 minutes in he's sounding annoyed/dejected that Ship and Cheapy seem to be ignoring him. He even says, "I'm here too."

This was the thread that got Tony banned - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=497097
I loved getting deals info from Tony, and the permaban is really harsh, but at the end of the day I'm not totally shocked by it. That thread seemed like a really, really bad idea. Also, I didn't even realize there was a CAGcast thread on here. This is honestly one of my favourite podcasts, it's always been a little surprising to me that it isn't mentioned much on GAF. Cheapy's choice of intro music this week was pretty damned funny given all the controversy over that Geoff Keighley video. And I liked his anticlimactic Wombat intro :lol |

He was being a shill, but in the most benign way possible (by actually asking for permission/gauging interest).
Given how some of the OTs look, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of shenanigans going on behind the scenes anyway. Someone dropped the MGS4 OT as an example, but I still haven't seen the full story to that one. |

Two things about this episode:
1. I thought they went too easy on Lauren Wainwright. I'm not saying the CAGCast should have demanded her head, but her actions aren't as innocent or "Misguided" as they made them seem. 2. Tony's ban seemed, to me, to be his own fault. I recall he expressed some doubt as to whether or not the mods would be OK with the thread that got him banned. I just think he should have PM'd a mod and reviewed the forum rules before posting. Also, I highly doubt NeoGAF enjoys banning high-profile people. Part of the appeal of this forum is the whole "OMG Game developers, bloggers, and journalists post here" and banning them just to make waves seems silly. Having the mods treat the high-profile people the same way they'd treat a nobody like me shows me the mods are doing their jobs. |

I think Cheapy might've been referencing the Dennis Dyack situation there.

The talk about the Eurogamer controversy was really disappointing. Not because I disagreed, but because none of them seemed to really have read up on it. That's understandable since the thread here was long as hell, but all their arguments seemed to be based on either a lack of information or flawed information. Then they ended by basically saying, "who cares, none of this is really matters."
I always look forward to them, especially Wombat, talking about stuff like this because they usually have a interesting perspective that isn't skewed by being too deeply involved in either the press or enthusiast side. It would be nice if they discussed it again next week in a more informed manner. |

I agree, but to be honest I didn't really expect much from them. They're good entertainers but having reasoned and thoughtful discussion based on a good grasp of the issues isn't really the CAGcast's forte.
Shipwreck came the closest to having a respectable position on the whole thing, but he caved in to Cheapy and Wombat's indifference in the end. |

Heh, that whole thing was pretty stupid. But I mean, as I said before I heard it, none of them are journalists so it doesn't matter to any of them if they get free shit and if they become close friends with PR people (in order to get more free shit).
At least Wombat has stopped with the whole "I want free shit" thing whenever Shipwreck talks about the games he gets and he seemed to have calmed down this year at E3 iirc. It's funny that they talk about Wainwright being young though, mostly because she tweets about using her course on "media and the law" or whatever but I guess "journalistic ethics" isn't a class you have to take at her university. But you listen to CAGCast because you want to hear more stories of CheapyD pooping himself because he threw out his back or for some consumer rights thing that happened, not for the discussion on the big issues. I did find CheapyD's reaction to Tony being banned hilarious though. He was pretty happy that Tony will spend more time at CAG. lol I don't browse CAG outside of the Canada sub-forum, but I assume that they'd love to have OTs that are PR-fests like the shitty ones that we get here. :p (I still want to hear the story about the MGS4 OT :( ) |

Honestly, I think Cheapy and co. are all for free shit. They don't give a damn, bring it on. I remember Wombat (or was it Cheapy?) wishing they were in the Microsoft presser a few years ago for a free slim.
But what's funny is I don't think it affects them that much, if at all. They talk plenty of shit about all the companies, including Microsoft (always love Wombat calling Major Nelson the Ronald McDonald of Xbox :lol) and do stuff like that big discussion about the Xbox Live spotlight gamer. Where they played all those awful clips and messages showing how that spotlight is actually a shitty thing to get chosen for, something that apparently pissed off Microsoft. |

I just think it's a bit weird to assume it's okay for everyone else to operate the same way. Even Wombat made the "it's just games" argument. And at that point, why bother have reviewers at all? Why not just let Ubisoft review AC3 for all the outlets? They would save on reviewer salaries and every game would get 100% on Metacritic. Win-win. |

I will say, I agree with Shipwreck on the OTs. The overly flashy OTs are the reason why I don't read the first page of any OT thread anymore. I don't want a billion screenshots and PR facts about games. At best, I want a release date, price, and maybe some significant information (like ZoE HD being horrible on PS3). Unless it's a joke OT (like Dragon Age or that SaGa OT), the only picture I really need is some flashy banner made by an artist on GAF and maybe the box art. At least we don't get anything that spans like 10 posts and is takes forever to load anymore, but it still gets silly sometimes. |

He reminsces about the game Crossfire? Remember the commercials for that? Two dudes in a post apocalyptics scenario with smoke all around them intensely battling with those little flippers or guns or whatever was in that game? It was ridiculous. 80s and early 90s toy commercials in general were overly intense.
