Forget all the 600+yd par-5s. Give me a TON of these shorty par-4s!! Shorten the course up, and all of a sudden these guys lose their minds. I love it.

This is a common mispeerception. Phil can pull shots out of his ass, but he's less consistent than you'd think on those shots.

Would love to see Poults win. His twitter was pretty hilarious today - he missed his flight (or couldn't get on a MarquisJet flight) and had to book through I think Minneapolis (from Orlando) to get to Tucson.

As do I. I'm rooting for Scott in that bracket but I'd like to see Choi, Johnson, or Furyk as well.

Donald is a major dud in Majors. Check out his record:

Only 5 Top 10's, missed the cut in 4 of the last 11, and a crap load of other cuts and DNPs from 2002 on.

Bill Haas now has as many Tour victories and sure, Donald has 6 Euro victories, but who really gives a shit.

Donald, overrated?? Really?

Sure he hasn't performed great in Majors, but then again, Phil went a looong time without winning one, Westwood hasn't won one yet. No 1 player in the world, won most money on the PGA tour AND the European tour last year.
Sorry, I fail to see how he's overrated in any way.

Before Phil won a major he had 17 Top 10 finishes in Majors, 3 runner-ups, 5 third place finishes and followed up his first major with another 2nd and 3rd in the the US Open and Open Championship. He has also missed only 3 cuts the past 59 majors - Donald has missed 3 of the last 8 - he isn't even in the same universe.

Also found this funny this morning on Tiger's opponent today:

Quote:
"I think he’s beatable,” Fernandez-Castano said. "Of course, I need to play good. That’s all I can think about and that’s all I’m going to try on Wednesday, just try playing my best game and hope that he doesn’t play his best."
Wonder is Woods is going to "Stephen Ames" him?

I'm with you. Sure, Luke isn't in that super high, top-tier echelon of players, but to have a season like he did last year is special. Nothing overrated about that. Great player, and deserving of all praise he receives, imo.

To say Tiger is anything BUT beatable right now is expecting too much from him. The one time in recent years that we've seen him in a high-pressure, contending situation, he folded like a lawn chair and was blown out of the water. The guy has A LOT to prove.

A lot to prove that he's the "Tiger of old" yes. Right now he's basically any other Top 20 player in the world - if he can roll the rock, he'll win.

Ok, the Phil comparison might have been slightly strong :D

But still, I don't see Donald as overrated. He had an awesome last season, and was amazingly consistent. If I read the table correctly at the Official World Ranking page he had 20 Top 10s in 2011.

Luke Donald is a great golfer and is ranked No. 1 because of his consistent play. But he is never a major player in big tournaments.

I love when the Golf Channel recaps past majors. Its so amusing to see Tiger's opponents just buckle late saturday into sunday when he's on the prowl.

No one fears him now. When he starts to get a few wins under his belt his road to 18 will come so much easier as his opponents will just hand the wins over.

I wouldn't be surprised if Donald gets a major this season.

And I think that fear that Tiger generated in other players on Sundays is gone. Yang showed that he is beatable on a Sunday, and the new young players are probably gonna be less inclined, at least now, to just give Tiger the W. But we'll see, it's going to be very interesting and I hope tiger gets his form back

What a match between Mahan and Z. Johnson. Mahan took it in 19 holes.

All square with Tiger through 7 holes.

Dustin Johnson and Furyk still going at it

EDIT* Castano missed fairway again, Tiger drills 3-wood just off green. Game Over.

Probably. Castano blew his wad on the first 2 holes and could get run 5 and 4 now. Woods 1UP, won the last 3 holes.

Shocked to see Poulter get beat 4 and 3.

And a classic quote when Maltby asked "How many times out of 10 do you get up and down put of that bunker?"

Tiger: "I only had to do it once."

And Luke bounced to no surprise. As soon as he found out he had Els he started with the "Well, he's not your typical 64 seed...." talk. Psyched himself out of it.

Rory got lucky to squeak by.

Tiger needs to get Dave Stockton on the phone. Or the ultimate irony will be him switching to the belly putter, starting to make everything, and then the USGA and R&A ban it.

It is sort of funny, watching Tiger complain about his putting. I was sort of off-and-on watching the golf replay last night, and I can't remember Tiger hitting a fairway off the tee, and watched him miss quite a few greens. Now granted, yes, he did miss some putts that he normally would make, but he was missing A LOT of shots that he would normally make. Hell, twice this week he had to attempt a lefty shot from the cholla bushes. He is just really rusty all around.

Yeah he was all over the place. He still has sprinkles of Tiger and has made some great shots. He just needs to piece it all together. He's had rounds where he's drove good, iron'd good, and putted good.

Just needs to make it happen in the same round.

McIlroy or Westwood will be World No.1 with a win Sunday.

Did they change the format for this event? I thought they used to play Quarters in the morning Saturday, Semis in the afternoon, and then the 36 hole Finals on Sunday. Just saw on TV that the Semis are tomorrow morning, with the Finals in the afternoon. So, are the Finals only 18 hole now?

Yes, it was reduced to 18 holes:

http://www.pga.com/news/pga-tour/wgc...-hole-match-tv

From a TV perspective, it makes sense. Nothing like the tournament coming on and somebody already being 4 or 5 up. Only twice in 12 years has the player trailing after 18 lost.

If he continues to play just average golf I wonder how much longer he will play before just retiring.

Tiger was sitting at +1, over the cut line with two holes to play - manned up, birdied them both to get to -1 and ready for the weekend.

It's not a matter of if he does win, as he as stated, he will quit when he thinks he CAN'T win. When guys like Louis Oostheizen are winning majors, Tiger isn't going anywhere. I am curious to see how his new swing fits at Augusta, since he predominantly fades the ball now and Augusta is a drawer's paradise.

Yeah, I agree. As he's playing now he at least is in the running, making cuts, still making some good shots. He only needs 4 more majors. I think he will do it. He's got at lease 10 good years left in him.

He just has to be strong mentally.
