He is.

Fully expecting him to unravel on the back 9 like he has recently. Once he gets past that mental block, though, he'll be back.

OMG Tiger's second shot on 18 was just sick. Would love to see him post -10 with Rory and Gillis about to start the Bear Trap.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was a 62 by Tiger Woods. Rory is winning this, but the King is back.

Ridiculous. He missed 3 putts by about an inch total, too. Could've been a round for the ages. He probably won't get it this week but I think it's increasingly clear that he really is "close", as he keeps saying.

Also, Tiger leading in total driving? That's new.

Tiger could have scored a 60. A couple easy putts missed at the start of the back nine. Edit: I guess easy isn't the right word, but they are shots he likely would have made a couple years ago.

Fowler has had an impressive round today as well IMO.

He started playing a little more by feel and working in his draw, rather than trying to faded everything. It always comes down to putting.

Just got the new Golf Digest and it has an excerpt from Hank Haney's new book on Tiger. This section went into detail on how in 2007 Tiger became "obsessed" with the military and becoming a Navy SEAL. Tiger would go through rigorous training exercises including dozens of solo and tandem parachute jumps, deep sea diving (where he would hold his breath for up to 4 minutes), hand to hand combat, etc. Also playing tons of SEAL video games. Hank told him to knock the crap off and focus on golf but Tiger saw it as a new challenge. He knew he was too old to become a SEAL but Tiger said "they would make an exception for me." After he decided to not become a seal, he hired professionals to mimic the SEAL's BUDS training experience so that he could go through it as a new challenge, which Hank says was to remain confidential because Tiger could get into trouble.

Haney believes this obsession, and what Hank thinks was a very bad shoulder injury that Tiger suffered during a parachute jump, is what began Tigers downward spiral.

Not really sure how I feel about all that. I mean when you are the greatest athlete on the planet I guess you need more challenges. But maybe he took Jacks record for granted and thought it was too attainable.

Wouldn't be surprised if his dad's military background and growing up around naval bases had something to do with that obsession.

Timing doesn't quite fit. He didn't start playing poorly until after the 2009 season in which he won the FedEX cup and very nearly won the PGA at Hazeltine. Perhaps it was contributory, but it didn't really unravel for him until the whole cheating mess became public.

The timing makes sense - the guys was banging 20+ women, winning at at unbelievable clip, still had a smoking hot wife at home and probably thought "I'm invincible, maybe I could be a Navy SEAL..."

You don't find the knee injury in 2008 a little bit easier to explain after this has come to light? I sure do.

Golf at the top level can be very hard to maintain with injuries. Little changes in your swing to compensate add up over time. Or in Tiger's case revamping your entire swing to take stress off your knee takes major time.

I've seen him hit the ball really well at times IMO over the past year, its his short game that has been sucking compared to his old one. Once he feels comfortable with the new swing (which I think he just about is) he will focus on the short game, then start winning again I believe.

The knee injury didn't cause him to play poorly though (remember that US Open?) It ended his season early, but it didn't hurt his play. He came back in 2009 and won 6 PGA events. He hasn't won a PGA event since the end of 2009 though.

Agreed.

I can't explain why seeing Scott with that long putter angers me so much. Maybe it's the way he walks, his sunglasses, i don't know. But I just can't stand the guy and I can't explain it. Just looks like a tool.

It also doesn't help that he was caught on the wrong end of the bad publicity with Stevie Williams.

I'll tell you why - he looks like Orlando Bloom and every time he's on TV my wife swoons over Scott.

Tiger just needs to get within 3-4 shots or so today. He just needs to get that putter figured out.

Yeah, it's really nice.

Tiger -2 on his first 9 today (back 9) and hitting it really solid. Hopefully hits a good drive on #1 and gets home in 2.

EDIT: Bombed it 325 down the middle, 186 (probably 7 iron) left on #1 0_o

Tiger probably lost a shot to the leader, but he picked up about 9 spots on the leader board. Bubba is prone to some less than stellar rounds, but I think Tiger needs to get to -9 or -10 to be in it on Sunday. The winner, barring crazy weather, will probably be around -15.

Tigers Woods withdraws with sore Achilles’ tendon

Quote:
DORAL, Florida (AP)—Tiger Woods’ road to the Masters took a surprising detour Sunday when he withdrew after 11 holes in the Cadillac Championship because of soreness in his left Achilles tendon.

It’s the same Achilles that he injured last year at Augusta National, which eventually caused Woods to miss two majors last year.

The severity of this injury won’t be known until Woods has it evaluated.

Did they change the format this year? Last year I thought there was something weird going on (like one guy playing against 2 other guys) but it looks like this year it's just two-man best ball followed by singles. Total low score wins.

You start 4 players each round.

Group ID is 15503
Password is believe

*EDIT
It's FREE. Maybe in the future we will do a paid one but we can all vote on that if we get enough people interested. But for now its FREE.
