On the fence about this one. Love the Wasteland theme, not a big fan of inxiles output.

I would love another one of those to keep with Wasteland, Bard's Tale 3 and some other game I can't remember at the moment.

EDIT: The third game is Deathlord.
Love Deathlord. Wish they had a decent emulation of it and Wasteland.

Cool, I'll probably donate $50. Hope these kickstarter experiments come to fruition. The only issue I see here is that since consumers are funding and knowing about the project at the very start, people are gonna be seriously antsy by the time these projects actually finish. I wonder though if since they are being publicly funded they'll be able to be more open in the dev process? Monthly build previews/trailers/screenshots? It's gonna be a fascinating endeavor either way, and I hope this business model succeeds.

The thought of Michael A. Stackpole (of X-Wing Rogue Squadron fame) writing Fallout esque novellas for Wasteland excites me in ways I didn't think possible. Consider me hyped!

My bank account is ready. Totally fucking ready.

I hope they have mock up screens for people to see sooner than later. The way the original game's screen was divided, like so many old-school RPGs, should hopefully have a user-defined ratio, like dragging the center meeting point around the screen to determine the size of the world map viewport, or more size given to the combat log, or more to the roster/party info window, or more given to animated portraits or some other persistent instrumentation. Even if the screen layout is more like a modern game, it would be nice to have more control over it other than just menu color schemes, font choices/sizes, and typical menu options to custom focus the player's preference for relying upon text output in the combat log or more given to the world map to limit unnecessary scrolling. So many nice things they could do with the interface these days, and loads of possibilities to enhance and preserve the old game's best bits.

I'm in for either $15 or $30. This also reminds me I need to pledge to the DF Kickstarter as well.

I'll probably kick in for this. Well, "most definitely". I hope they have something to show at least, other than the "idea". Sure, DF didn't need anything to show, even a title, to get nearly 3million (or when you read this they might have passed 3mil).

Still, some concept art or bare story or at least some idea of the style of RPG would be nice. Adventure games are pretty simple to explain, but there's so many different kinds of RPGs out there. It could be a 2D game, 3D game, isometric game, single PC, or party based, 3rd person or 1st person, srpg, etc. The style of RPG that the original Wasteland was might be difficult to sell to people these days...

Yeah that's my only concern is that the response to this may be a bit modest. But then again, the budget for this one should be fairly modest and I think they've taken into consideration that this genre is much more niche than adventure games.

If Avellone ends up doing one of these I'll probably fund it, as well. Dear amazing 90s PC people, keep doing this shit and I'll more than likely keep giving you money for it.

In anticipation of the Kickstarter I have fished out a floppy with my Wasteland saves (crossing fingers that it still works) before realizing I don't even have a 3.5" drive around here anymore. Ordered a USB one off Amazon..

This will be the fourth kickstarter I'll be backing. Never played Wasteland, it was before my time, but I love Fallout 1 & 2. Still have the dual jewel case that I got when I was around 10. I think it was from a target or something, while my parents were at the checkout. It was on a shelf surrounded by like educational and typing games. So lucky to stumble upon it.

Fallout 1 cost to make ~3mln

Then wasteland 2 is definetly posiible with budget of 3mln

The price of things have changed since 1988. I also doubt it would be made to look exactly like a game from '88.

If that interview posted above (and it's a great read, go read it if you haven't) is any indication, it looks like he'll be asking for under a million.

Well, he does also say that they already put a year's worth of pre-planning and design into the project, before shelving it because they couldn't get funding for the more expensive stuff (art, music, etc.), so they're not starting from scratch... also, he says that it should be done this year, if funded, and he's putting $100,000 of his own money in so the total he's asking for is reduced from a million to $900,000.

as he said they had been working on it for a year so they have all basics down which might reduce costs a bit.

Fargo can kick in additional funding since he probably also counts sales after the release.

Is that adjusted for inflation? If not, it's equal to ~4.24m today (according to this). Then there are obviously other factors involved.

Fortunate with the timing, or deliberate? Going live just as Kickstarter's highest-profile project ever draws to its conclusion with your own project having potential to appeal to a similar fanbase ought to be *massively* beneficial.

Yes, if no one makes a new thread I'll throw one together eventually, similar to the DFA one, with the rewards etc listed in the OP.

So here's an admission of a secret shame: I've never played Wasteland. I'm very aware of its reputation, and I was always interested at about the right time, I just never... got around to it.

I need to rectify this.

How can I, legally? I don't think I've noticed it on any DD services, it's way too old to be reasonably available in shops, it doesn't seem to have ever been rereleased. Is there no option outside eBay (which is also not exactly straining under the weight of copies)?

I wonder if there's any chance of a DD version of the *first* game as a reward tier if we were to ask Fargo really nicely.
