Never Ending Orgies with the Ghetto Action Force?

For what it's worth, I'm fine with NeoGAF [GAF]. Just having fun. I don't feel there is any real need for a witty, unusual name. Non-gaffers or no, it's going to be pretty clear what we represent as a group. Having a funny full name is pretty irrelevant once people see [GAF] next to a name.

I think that's the tile of the porn parody.

As for all that about nongaffers, you do realize that a guild is a great way to expose others to NeoGAF and the only difference between them and us is the wait for the mods to approve them. We've had multiple ppl in the Imperial GAF guild that are not GAFers but are waiting for approval.

I concede that if there are more members than there is space in the maximum guild limit, then yes GAFers should get priority, but if there's space, why not let them in?

i actually think that IF we somehow manage to hit the guild limit we can make a sub gaf guild like AIE or goons do. just a thought

No one has answered this question cause probably not a lot of people are in this case but will we be able to enjoy GW2 playing from a place that's not the US or EU?

Actually there must be a lot of guys from Australia up in here, isn't that a concern for you?

In my case, I don't expect them to have Japanese servers come launch but I'm hoping I to be able to at least play the game, and with a dencent latency.

To give you an example Aion was horrible wether I'd try US or EU servers from Japan, but Age of Conan would play just fine. A game like Tera would simply block us from playing if we're from Asia.

Really looking forward to this and even joining you guys on the action if you get the guild going and it would suck to have yet another game not accessible just cause some of us are living in another part of the world.

In short words : TAKE MY MONEY!

Enjoying you can i guess, stuff like PvE with ping of (200-300) is playable, PvP would be another business as it involves more reaction and a low ping is always desirable. But i suppose in the future services as LowerPing and Smoothping will support GW2 for lowering ping for users that aren't close to GW2 servers.

Close to the release date i hope we will get more info about servers to know better. Korea is a big market for them so they will for sure put some servers there i think (or close), for now is in my knowledge that for the Closed Betas they only have servers in US and Europe so its wait and see for now.

Not from Australia, but i understand you as i play with ping of 100+

I might join a gaf guild to show support if nothing else, me and some gaming buddies are already planning on starting a guild so my focus will be on that one. I can't wait for GW2 to be released. :)

I'd love to join the GAF guild. Exploring the world and the dungeons together. EU players can play on US servers and vica versa right?

We don't know as of yet. I'm going to guess that everything will be region locked, though time and time again ANet surprises everyone with defying conventions. Granted GW1 allowed for it, but GW1 was quite a different game. I wouldn't rule it out though, we just can't say for sure at the moment.

Probably. But most of the time gaf guilds kind of fizzle out after a while. It would be awesome if US and EU GAF could be in one big, awesome guild.
Sounds better to me too. Playing outside of regular primetime can give a upper hand in WvW for us EU players etc. (or vice versa if a EU server is chosen).
I have promised my wife to play the game with her, mainly PvE, but I don't think it will be too hard for me getting her into PvP and WvW.

Edit: It would be great with US/EU/AU Divisions.

I also have around 5 or 6 close friends who can join Gaf guild, we were going to have a small guild but joining gaf seems like a better idea. They were all very decent WoW players so i can vouch for them.

How will we decide on EU or US server?

This statement does not exist, a game can never be completely ready. Every game has bugs, future plans, patches etc.
I would say somewhere mid 2012.

It was a joke. That's what Anet says whenever someone asks for a release date. Really though, I'm thinking May or June.

Only thing I care about is the game being ready and fully functional on launch day. I don't want them to rush anything out the door for the sake of a deadline.
Arenanet themselves have stated they want the same thing, so I hope they stick to that promise. Ofcourse it'll never be truly perfect, but I just want a polished and fun experience from day one. It does wonders for publicity.

If all that means i'll have to wait a few more months, i'll deal with that no problem.

Just a wish but.. I have taking some days of work in April-May, looking forward to play the game by then.
Please give me a Beta at least!

I would be alright having a poll on Guild Names, but I must admit to liking just "NeoGAF" and the "GAF" tag. And we definitely have to allow non-members and not-yet-approved members... Hell, we were in the Google Docs chat while Jira was copying the Q&A from Reddit and somebody asked if they could join even if their account wasn't approved yet. So those guys are out there too.

Anybody know a good external site to set up polls or something? Or do we just want to have everyone PM their votes? An external site would allow non-GAFfers to have some say, at least.

So Retro do you know for sure what you and your wife is going? I want to have my girlfriend and I take opposite classes so we can all see how they work together.

The wife is definitely leaning towards Ranger.

I'm going to try as many classes as I can, but I will probably spend the most time with Warrior and Guardian because I kind of have it narrowed down to those two. In past MMOs I've always leaned towards heavily-armored melee classes But there are things I like about every profession, so I really can't decide. My plan is to use the Beta (if I get in) to feel out which class I want to roll at launch.

We'll likely roll Norn as we want to leave the Human area fresh for launch. If they're not an option in the next cycle, we'll probably go with whatever isn't human and available.

I agree with this set-up. I would also suggest that the number of guild officers be kept at a bare minimum at release and grown based on activity and helpfulness thereafter. In essence, I'm suggesting that we don't begin the game with a ton of gaffers as officers, as it would invariably suggest some form of punishment or mitigation towards players from outside of GAF.

Agreed; we want plenty of officers just so there's a better chance one is on to help out and see what's going on. But those officers should come up from members who have proven they are helpful.

It's really not that bad. Depends on the guild more than anything else. Being GM can be tiresome, though, especially if you're running a relatively immature guild.

I think a lot of the headaches that come from guild management will be softened or eliminated entirely. Everyone gets loot/tokens from bosses so there's no need for retarded shit like DKP and no loot drama. There are no coveted healer/tank classes, so nobody fights over a raid slot or getting stuck having to play a role they don't like so everyone else can have fun. There aren't even raids to have raid slots for.

The only drama I think we'll have is if some people disagree on strategy or builds, or some people just rub each other the wrong way. In both cases I think everyone should be mature enough to sort out their feelings before it turns into full-fledged Bitch Drama.

Agree with this completely. Most if not all the drama will be eliminated simply because there is not much to have drama over. There is no real room to play favortism, and no loot to argue over. The only problems I can see is non gaffers not following guild rules or general conduct, but even that has little room to cause drama.

@Guild Name- I think NeoGAF works perfectly and is to the point. I wouldn't be completely against a different name though if that was voted on. Also the talk of a gaf guild not lasting is kind of funny to me. With the ability to be in multiple guilds and no subscription fee and the many things to do in the game, I just don't see how the guild won't last.

Away a couple days and miss all kinds of good talk.

i hope anet puts in a rp-server, i havent wanted to role play in such a long time.

i have a feeling we will have a great guild this time around. everyone can play at their own pace and still contribute to the guild, thanks to things like side kicking most people wont feel left out anymore

Has anyone got links to info/videos/images of the Lesser and Elite Elementals that Elementalists can summon?

I think I saw a youtube video of two fire harpy like creates summoned in PvP, but cant find it or anything else on them again.

It's sadly offscreen footage from PAX Prime 2011, but it's still the best footage of PvE thief I have seen so far. This dude knows how to play.

Youtube link

Late on this footage, but damn this vid makes Thief look nice. This and Necro will most likely be my second and third characters to Elementalist.

On a second note, I really hope this game remains hard. In this video it seems like it would be pretty ruff if you weren't used to the mechanics of the game like dodging, swapping weapons, or using more abilities than 1. I just hope they don't make it a little easier after seeing so few of the press beta even trying to use dodge.

June has been my guess for a while, would be an awesome Birthday present.

Early April here, so let's hope it's my birthday and not yours

. Also, crazy fact: Me and NeoGAF share the same birthday!

The only problems I can see is non gaffers not following guild rules or general conduct, but even that has little room to cause drama.

I think we should follow the NeoGAF Policies; they're already established and if a GAF member can meet them and keep his account, he can probably safely stay in the GAF Guild. No Racism / Sexism, no trolling, profanity allowed but not when directed at specific people, etc. People can tell dirty jokes and drop F-bombs if they want, but not excessively so.

If anyone feels someone steps over a line, that's really the only thing we'd need officers for.

@Guild Name- I think NeoGAF works perfectly and is to the point. I wouldn't be completely against a different name though if that was voted on.

I'm down with anything so long as it isn't obnoxious. Personally I prefer something more towards the RP side of things ("Gilded Age") vs. being humorous, but I do kind of like the idea of the guild flying under the "NeoGAF" banner. At the end of the day, as long as it isn't super silly, I am fine with anything.

The name isn't so important as getting everyone organized and on the same server for maximum enjoyment.

I know it's premature but I'd certainly be willing to be an officer. I am nice and calm and rational and will play the shit of of this game.

Dec for what? For the game to be released? Thats one hell of a beta.

Diablo 3? :lol

Honestly I am hoping for a May/June but I would honestly be happy with anything before this fall.

Yeah this is what I am thinking too. I see it being the only real source for drama and even that would be very minimal. I only see it really coming up if some friend of a gaffer or a non-gaffer not adhering to these and some others coming to their defense. But if it's bad enough to become an issue in the first place I don't see this happening too often if at all.

Colin Johanson (lead content designer) clarified Dynamic Events and Meta Events based on a PC Gamer impression that DEs didn't change the world:

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1158311&postcount=35

Just wanted to pop in and clarify a little bit:

There are:

Renown Hearts (by Anthony Ordon on KillTenRats)
http://www.killtenrats.com/2012/01/20/gw2-just-play/

Meta-Events: (See halfway down by Devon Carver)
http://www.arena.net/blog/beta-development-update

Dynamic Events, Personal Story, Dungeons, etc.
You know that stuff!

In the beta weekend, there were generally 2 or more large meta dynamic event chains in each of the maps available. These meta event chains are made up of usually in the ballpark of 5-20+ events chaining and branching in various different directions. They stand out because even if no events are currently running, you'll see unique UI for them that tells you the state of the world as a result of the events that occurred in the area.

Meta events generally have the largest amount of world impact of any event chains, making large sweeping changes to huge chunks of a map in the world. Dynamic events have varying impact from small (new merchant who sells stuff) to massive (explosions!!) depending on the scope and important of the event.

You'll find the early part of the game tends to be a bit easier to help guide people into the game and not overwhelm them at first. There are optional much harder areas available in those maps for folks looking for larger challenges, and group events even in the starter maps as well designed to be a larger challenge. As you progress through the game, you'll encounter more and more meta events, group events, and the difficulty ramps up. Along the way, you'll encounter more events that have larger branches along their failure chains as well.

Also a bonus tip, after any dynamic event (or event chain) it's always a good idea to follow the key NPC's or investigate the area after the event has been completed. If you don't run off, you'll often times find they build new buildings, setup stores, build defenses, kick off new events (after some dialogue), repair broken things, build siege weapons, change the weather, have new spawns appear/change, and more as a result of dynamic events concluding.

The range of affect on each events varies on a case by case basis, if you get the rabbits out of the melon field the farmers daughter opens a store and sells watermelon and lucky rabbits feet. If you participate in the meta event chain to drive into centaur lands near Beetletun, you open up merchants who find centaur weapons and sell them, conquer centaur lands causing centaurs to stop spawning in the area, open up safe paths for caravans to travel to Beetletun and more!

It's always good to look around after an event and see what happened, there is often more than on first glance you'd think.

Hope that helps a bit,
Colin

Based on the PC gamer article I get the impression they thought Renown Hearts were DEs and nothing changed, but in reality something did and that being a new vendor opened up. That's probably the smallest change you'll see in the world, but it's a change none the less. As far as DEs are concerned, sometimes events in other areas have to be in a certain state to affect another event you just did. Like these rabid bunnies at the farm is one event, but the water storage and supply line has been poisoned by bandits way up the hill, if you go up there and fix that, it will change the event down the hill at the farm and open up a new vendor.

I can take little sidetracks into raunchy humor, but nothing that I would consider offensive to anyone who's had a sex ed. class. Mostly I just dabble in punnery, but if the situation presents itself I like to think I can make an off-color comment and not worry about upsetting anyone.

As long as nobody delves into racist / sexist / ethnic kinda stuff, that's fine. I think the worst we might have to deal with is people letting the occasional "fag" slip out, and officers can probably discourage that easily enough. That's jut one of those' internet things' that people think is okay because it's so wide spread, but can easily get them kicked off GAF. For GAFGuild, it's just one of those things that will have to be dealt with.

It should go without saying that you shouldn't invite your 13 year old sister to play in GAFGuild, though. Unless she's like a really grown up 13... like a relative-with-boundary-issues 13 or a or a grew-up-drinking-a-lot-of-dairy 13. Or if she's hot. Then, yeah, go ahead and invite her...
and tell her we all play on webcam...
naked.

I'm so glad Anet chose to fully flesh out guild with acheivements and such, something that is missing in a lot of MMOs. Will be hella fun working together getting acheivements and guild titles etc.
