Probably a prequel with all the crazy stuff happening from the initial outbreak. The motion comics on the blu-ray explored the world of "I am Legend" pretty well with varying events happening to other people.

EDIT: Or they simply followed up with the original ending instead of the theatrical ending.

Maybe they are going for the alternative ending finale rather than the original theatrical cut ending.

As if their focus-test motivated ending choice wasn't mind boggling enough, it makes even less fucking sense in light of this news. Besides the theatrical ending being completely bone headed nonsense that completely undid the narrative in the movie showing that the creatures had emotions and were just trying to survive, it also seemingly eliminated the possibility of a sequel with Will Smith.

The movie had some good moments, however the usage of ridiculously horrible CG ruined whatever good moments the movie had for me. It was really, really a situation where they should've just used actors.

I don't have much hope for this. On one hand they are free to make their own story which is good but those Super powered zombies will surely be it in.

The ending where he blows himself up is the feel-good focus tested one and the one where he and the monster make up and everyone lives is the one too gritty for test audiences?

Because it is the entire point of the movie. In the ending where he blows everyone up he never realizes that he is a Legend, it's just hollywood shit. The point of the movie is that he is the Monster of their Legends, abducting and killing members of their society. They finally attack the house to simply retrieve the woman that he is holding prisoner. They have become the new society and he is the monster that will be past down in their legends for terrorizing them.

There was actually going to be a Gladiator 2 once, where the ghost of Maximus was brought back by God to save the Christians who were being ostracized and slaughtered by the Romans at the time. I'm not kidding.

It really tied everything in the movie together. Not to mention, it kind of downplayed the religious nonsense that was so prevalent in the last act.

poor man's = wide audience appeal? I don't think it was trying to compete or tell the same story. It was will smith in a PG-13 movie. Thts about as safe as you can play it.

Well when this was originally talked about years ago they were saying it would be a prequel. I'm surprised they didn't just let it die after being on the backburner for so long, but that has been the case for a number of Will Smith related sequels I suppose.

28 Days Later
Budget: $8,000,000 (estimated)

vs

I am Legend
Budget: $150,000,000 (estimated)

But anyway, is Will so strung up for cash these days? Between MIB3 and this shit, you know he's just trying to ensure his company will continue to support the careers of his awful children. Ruining one beloved property at a time.

Nick Cave penned that script. It was alright as another thing, but as a Gladiator film it was Rainman levels of retarded.

True story: In the beginning of development for Will Smith's I Am Legend the creatures were still vampires. The head vampire used a tank. That vampire was going to be played by Brad Pitt. I believe they were still using the Mark Prosevitch script that was going to be filmed By Ridley Scott and star Arnold in 2000.
