Crow eating thread.

Admit your mistakes!
Okay, why did I make this thread? In my case: I haven't looked at the Wii library for a long while ever since I kept myself busy with the 3DS and Steam (sales) (plus I didn't have the Wii hooked up, it was literally collecting dust). Now I was always one of those people who would heavily generalize the CoD crowd and how that whole franchise is a cheap cash-in, especially the Wii versions. But holy shit. I decided to look on YouTube how MW3 on Wii looks like just for giggles and I was expecting the same PSP graphics as the previous attempts. I think I've been giving Activision and Treyarch way too little credit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOiHc...eature=related Look at this shit. WTF, how do they manage to create a Wii game like that? I've checked several videos, including multiplayer ones. I must've missed some crazy gap, because I remember Reflex looking like crap and as far as I recall Black Ops didn't look much better either. Maybe the CoD franchise, while popular, isn't that bad of a game after all. There seems to be serious effort being poured into it. I'm quite impressed. My mind has always been indoctrinated with CoD=Activision=Evil=Bad games. I admit I might have been quite wrong on this subject. Share your personal crow eating, preferably about games. Wrong sales predictions or stuff are often crow-feasts as well, but those aren't that interesting. Share your interesting discoveries or misguided generalization. Also please don't point to people, this is a thread to come clean, not so much to fling mud. |

Saints Row The Third.
I always considered Saints Row to be a cheap knock-off of the GTA series. And the third installment was looking like the most offensive and insulting of the bunch. 47 hours later I think I may have been mistaken. The game is technically impressive, fun, funny and well written in all the same ways I enjoy about GTA, while creating its own unique world. |

CoD8 Wii is impressive... if you don't have a PC or HD twin to run it on. Same could be said for the previous Wii entries. |

I thought DKCR was going to be an easy game because I thought Nintendo stopped making hard platformers.

I thought Crysis 2 was going to be graphically underwhelming on PC because of the console version.
I slung a fair bit of shit at Crytek for that, to say the least. Especially since they weren't using DX11. So wrong. (I was right about the game itself being compromised, however! >_>) |

Ugh, that reminds me. I also thought that iOS games are ridiculous and will never take off. Then there are games like Phoenix Wright and Ghost Trick. Then there's this game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnOcXHudX_w Espgaluda. I didn't know the franchise, but I saw the game in the arcades when I was in Japan. I remembered the name because I didn't had the time to play (friends were bored), then I looked up that there's an iOS version. Man, from time to time I still look in the Android market hoping for anything that's as cool as this. It's like one of those type of games I really really want and I can't have it. 3DS doesn't have an Espgaluda. Android doesn't have an Espgaluda. PC doesn't have an Espgaluda. I want an Espgaluda! iOS > me. :(

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was going to be Invisible War 2.
Fallout: New Vegas was going to be a clumsy cash-in with a few classic names attached to it, but ultimately Fallout 3 redux. There was no way the 3DS would have two differently sized screens with different capabilities. It would be way too clumsy and asymmetrical for Nintendo to even consider it, it must be a mistake based on early test kits. EDIT: IGN's rumored Wii specs must be incorrect, that makes no sense at all. |

Last time I ate crow...jeez. I don't really remember. I guess when I thought Golden Sun: Dark Dawn was going to be as good as Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Not even close. Oh and when I though Portal 2 was going to be better than Portal.

Oh god this. I was so damn sure the next game was going to be either Pokemon Grey or R/S remakes and it would be on 3DS to move systems. Nintendo proved me wrong on all fronts. I still don't agree with the decision to make B/W 2 a DS game, but I can see why they did it (sales, sales, sales).

You're in good company. Halo was really getting bad previews and State of Emergency was thought to be the next GTA. No one had a clue.

Haha, this thread is turning out more awesome than I thought. With almost every post I'm like: wait, that's how I think about that game right now... can I be wrong, again!? It's almost anti-GAF: instead of reading about lots of games and thinking you know plenty about the games, I'm starting to have doubts whether I know which games are good and which aren't.

The GTX 480 couldn't possibly be that loud.
I can't wait to preorder Mass Effect Deception. I loved the first three books. BattleForge, this demo is fun so I better buy the full version. Games For Windows Live sounds like it'll move the PC gaming experience forward. Finally, achievements for PC games! I should buy Rage because my new PC hardware needs a good FPS with graphical prowess to show off. |
