I bought the album at the store today, and so far it seems pretty good.
My initial impression though is that feels far more like an "album experience" than the previous albums did. Its not as catchy as some of the stuff from before, but it all flows really well and it seems like the kind of thing that will grow on you. |

Totally agree. Nothing remotely like that on this. This album just drags out for way too long and none of the songs feel all that different from one another.

Fantastic album. I just finished listening to the whole thing streaming on their webpage. I think the songs don't stick too well just yet, but they're really great, punchy, and heavy. After repeated listens they'll probably get there. Not at all what I was expecting after hearing "Bloody Mary".

Just picked up the album today, and so far, the first trio of songs have not disappointed. Different from Swoon (which I adored), but undeniably their sound. Hope the rest of the cd holds up as well.
Dunno what it is about it, but Skin Graph has hooked me. Already might be my favorite of the album. |

Yo, pick this album up everyone. MP3 Album is $5 on Amazon right now. Worth every penny. Skin Graph is an incredible album opener. I love the guitar siren sound a little after the beginning. You know what it's warning you about? That things are about to get REAL.

So yeah, sorry to bump, but finally got to listen to the entire thing in a row in one setting. And..... well, in short I prefer Swoon and Carnavas. Not to say Neck of the Woods is a bad album by any means, it's certainly great, but it's different. I appreciate them switching up their sound enough so it sounds different, but still easily recognizable. The songs on the album definitely sound more "produced", and there seems to be more stuff going on behind the scenes, as opposed to Swoon where it was very in your face. A few of the things I dislike are almost every song goes on at least a minute too long. Also, Brian never really truly "loses it" (for lack of a better phrase) like he did on The Royal We www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPzU1Uz8ujw#t=03m00s. Yes, he does "semi-scream" on such songs as Skin Graph, and a few others I'm forgetting, but he never really does it like that.
I also feel like too many songs blended together and I'm having trouble remembering which one is which. But some of the openings to the songs, wow, I'm referring to The Pit and Skin Graph specifically. I had more to say, but I forgot it. I wholeheartedly recommend picking this one up though, great album overall. Edit; Also, I definitely think it's more of a "grower" than their other albums. |
