I would like to see this original take on the Bioshock franchise come to life someday but I understand the complications.
There's a window where it makes sense for Irrational to do the game assuming their next console game will be on future hardware. But a game as ambitious as Infinite is probably going to have a difficult crunch period from July->October.

If full-scale development of the Vita game doesn't start until maybe January 2013, not only is release a long way out, but there's very little possibility of a sequel. Outsourcing makes a lot of sense if the right team steps up.

"It's not Bioshock Infinite ported to the Vita."

It's Bioshock 2 ported to the vita!
Did anyone make this joke already?

Where did you get this quote from? I know it is old, but just wondering where you saw it since you mention it :) (i cant see it anywhere in the Wired or Gamespot article).

I am hesitant to say it's actually anything - I heard so many promises about games that were being made for PSP, and so many never materialized. With VITA doing as disastrously as it is doing, I wouldn't be surprised if this is cancelled.

Actually, this is possible. Not necessarily a min game, but a completely different game, and not a full blown FPS.

Yeah, Levine doesn't even say they will start the Vita version outright after Infinite ships.

I'm sure it's coming, just don't have your hopes on Ken Levine and 2k Boston developing it.

I don't know about that, again nothing is said that confirms it is in development.

I don't think Bioshock Vita actually exists, and I don't think it is ever coming out.

No, you're right. I'm sure the Vita will really pick up steam and suddenly become incredibly appealing to a studio that has come to expect sales in the millions.

I'm being a little hyperbolic, but the point stands that if a Vita Bioshock is released, it won't be a AAA game. That doesn't mean it can't be interesting, but I don't expect a lot of resources to be invested in its creation.

Yeah, seems like they're waiting for the user base to grow before they really invest in the project.

I never got the feeling that it was going to be a AAA game in the first place. When he offhandedly mentioned how he had an idea and the Vita seemed like the right platform I made the assumption then that it was a different, smaller experience.

I guess not everyone else made that assumption?

As an appreciator of Irrational's artistry, I'm very interested in seeing what they do with this game... but I'm getting more and more worried that expectations are not going to be in line with what the team's working on. We're all geared up for this awesome and faithful Bioshock, but if it goes the route of Metal Gear Acid or Ghost Recon Shadow Wars or even Silent Hill Book of Memories, the backlash against the game and the platform could be harsh even if the game turns out great. This system needs a win, hopefully whatever this Bioshock project is delivers on that hope.

I just don't think the platform will grow unless Sony gets serious about securing exclusives and fast. They're getting fucked. And with NSMB2 coming and Paper Mario 3DS and more Monster Hunter? Get the fuck out. Vita is doomed for real, I don't even think it's hyperbole at this point. I was right about PS3, let's see if I'm right here. mark this ;)

yeah gonna be some awkward iOS-quality subpar game that will release simultaneously for phones and Vita. Vita will be $39.99 and have a "supreme shine", i.e. high resolution art and three extra unlockables. The phone version will be 99 cents.

It's on Vita.. it's a guaranteed flop?? All joking aside.. isn't bioware a little concerned about the state of this platform currently?

Haha, this is just what I was thinking yesterday! There's no fucking way Take 2 are going to greenlight development of a large scale Bioshock game for a platform with a userbase as low as the Vita. It will be a nightmare scenario iOS port, if it's released at all.

With all the conference hype leading up to nothing, this is the Vita's Agent.

I agree, at least if the Vita continues on its current course without a major overhaul. I don't think Sony even has a strategy for this thing except "learn nothing from the PSP, continue to not really care about software and outsource most first party titles, pray for a third party hit, and maybe people will buy it this time for some unknown reason."

Which sucks because the Vita is so many billions of times superior as a piece of hardware to its competitor that it's almost unfair to the 3DS to even compare. 3DS is like a piece of festering urine-and-dog shit mountain next to a gold-and-diamond encrusted mansion.

Once again Sony's retarded marketing decisions combine with Nintendo's lack of ambition to create another long ass held back generation. le sigh

It's cool to hear him talk as though it's a game that is actually being developed in-house rather than some IP hand-off to some b-tier studio to cash in on the brand.

Though I guess that doesn't actually confirm anything 100%.

The GTA games on PSP weren't developed by Rockstar North. They were Rockstar Leeds and still turned out good. 2K has similar satellite teams who could make a good Bioshock game under Ken Levine's direction.
