Alex easily has the talent to be in F1 – I just hope he has the financial support.

I've been following his career for roughly five years and I really hope he gets a major break soon.

I started watching in time to see Scott Speed :| Guessing that Rossi will drive quite a bit at the USGP.

Rossi is skilled, here is hoping he shows enough stuff to maybe land a 3rd driver spot on a better team by next year.

Power is doing great, but I think Psychotext was talking about Speed, who placed 42 of 43 drivers today, completing 2 laps before his team parked it for the day in NASCARs Nationwide series (aka GP2).

Can anyone tell me if you can use the iPad to watch the race when it's shown on the BBC? I know there's an iplayer app, but I don't know if you can watch the race live that way.

Figured the missus might be able to watch some of the race that way when she's getting ready next Sunday.

According to the following you can:

http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/bbc-i...416580485?mt=8

You'd be limited to the non-HD coverage on BBC One though.

Another German team? What would be the likelihood of someone like Audi stepping up to the plate? Making engines would be a boon for them as well, but would take a few years to get off the ground, not to mention the reduction in focus on LMPs.

Just a guess, but 2013 would be a good time for the VW group to step in with one of their marques.

I don't see Audi leaving the WEC. It's more likely that Porsche gets out of that series quickly (Porsche vs. Audi is just bad for VW) and enters F1.

Wasn't one of the VW groups potentially entering as an engine supplier one of the instigators to going for 1.6l 4 pot turbos in '13 in the first place? Then they backed out IIRC.

EDIt: found an article talking about it with comments from Newey

Would be terrible if they quit but I have a feeling its all about politics and control of future of F1.
As article mentions for some reason they didnt get offered the same deal of Ferrari, McLaren & RBR.

Mercedes leaving is a big thing...and in my opinion just makes F1 look like an unstable place to set up a team for those considering coming in...I mean if not even Mercedes can make a go of it than what chance do others?

You have to suck Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bulls dicks essentially...

Depends on the design of the tub I'd assume and other design factors of the cockpit.

I can't see it happening, and only threw in Prodrive as their return to F1 is rumoured/discussed every few years so someone was gonna go there anyway. :P

It would however, be the ultimate irony though, given the rumours from long ago that it was the other new entrants to F1's choice of Mercedes engines in 2007/2008 that kept the Prodrive team & engines out of F1 in 2008. (Neither Mercedes nor Ferrari wanted Prodrive competing in the F1 engine supply business).

Personally I don't see Audi leaving the WEC as well because they've been on such a good roll that it doesn't make sense. And you're right that Porsche vs. Audi isn't worth it for VW.

That said, there'a a interview in the latest Racecar Engineering magazine with Wolfgang Durheimer, VW Group's head of motorsport. A key quote is "I don't think it will be a long time they are doing it. It is not decided who will be the one to leave." (referring to having Porsche and Audi compete together at Le Mans), and also when asked if they are encouraging one brand to take up F1 he answered "Yes.", but he wouldn't reveal which brand it is - the overall impression is that it's Audi, since it wouldn't make sense to have Porsche join in 2014 and then quit again after a year or two to go to F1. There's also some speculation that Audi would first join as an engine supplier in 2014 before buying another team (maybe Toro Rosso) a few years later.

Since when did red bull become so important to F1?
I understand Ferrari & McLaren being given a good deal because of how long they have been in the sport & how successful they have been over the years.
But Red Bull only joined the sport in 2005 & were a mid table team for the first 4 years.

so a few years of success & now they are considered to be as important to F1 as Ferrari & McLaren?

"Why should Mercedes have the same deal as the others?" F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone is quoted as saying. "What have they done in formula one?

"They won a race and that is it."
By that same reasoning, Williams should be appointing a director ahead of Redbull.

McLaren test higher nose & secret brake duct cooling #11548

Looks like this was missed until the weekend as on the last day of Mugello testing McLaren tested a version of the ugly high nose.

ScarbsF1 also mentioned that they have a brake duct tyre cooling/heat regulation device that they are testing and AMUS (in German) have picked up the story too.

Also it ties in with the problems McLaren have been having with wheel nuts during pit stops.
This device is heating up the whole wheel/hub and is causing problems with the wheel nut due to thermal expansion.
