If a cut in the hole can class it as a flap or something I guess a lot of other teams will be doing so if they have not already (ferrari)

Yeah. How you prevent that without mandating the floor shape is a bit beyond me. This series of patches that the technical rules has become is ridiculous.

The technical rules have always been this way. How could it be any different? That is unless you allowed a development free-for-all.

Nothing that happened with this situation is unintended, the technical regs are specifically written to allow teams to work this way. They're supposed to be a set of constraints within which the designers are free to work. Sometimes they push too far and stretch the spirit of the rules, in which case the rules are further clarified and everyone moves on. The rules could be written in a much clearer, more limiting way, but that would kill the creativity of the sport.

The rules have notg always been this way, it is only the last 20 years they have been this way. For a very long time it was a development free for all outside the engine capacity regs. You could still do that if you wanted. Anyway, I've had this rant before :)

I'm pretty sure this kind of thing has been happening since the 70's, but yea whatever - it's a matter of interpretation not worth fighting over.

Yet they still hired him. And if he calls it quits, which would be necessary to get the Ham deal working out, the money would be in the budget.

There's no way in hell they can put the same money on the table that McLaren are offering. Let's say they were able to match it. Why would Hamilton leave? It's not like its Ferrari offering him the seat!
Ham still likes some of the people at Merc, the same ones he worked with earlier in his carreer. It is said, that he needs the right surroundings (read: someone to stroke his ego once in a while), to thrive. Its not only about the money for him.

Canada is not going to be on BBC is it?

This kinda sucks. Won't be able to watch the race in either HD or decent commentating. I prefer to watch on sub HD BBC than on HD Swiss TV, but because all stations will be showing Euro Football Games my only options are on Sub HD Swiss TV or on RTL (German).

No, sadly. We won't be doing any birdwatching with Sky if it rains again.

Just 60 minutes of race highlights, I think (including pre & post race coverage - but excluding the forum, obviously).

Edit: Phew, my mistake, 2 hours (the listings on the BBC site are inaccurate)

Don´t know if its benn posted yet:
Italian Edoardo Mortara (25) got a contract with Lotus. Its kind of a preliminary deal, they´ll do sim drives to prepare him for F1 in the forseeable future, as well as the Young Driver Test in Silverstone after the Gran Prix.
Mortara just won this weekends DTM race. He won the Formula3 Euro Series in 2010 and got famous for winning the Macau race three consecutive times.

A question for any f1 fans in the US. Are the F1 events in the Americas usually broadcast OTA? I see Canada is on regular Fox, just the race no practice or qualifying.

Not sure but it looks like the race in Austin is going to be on Speed and not Fox. That's just stupid.

I love how RB were all "we are confident there will be a clarification and that we will be fine" and now that it's changed Marko said "well we weren't going to use it in Canada anyway".

Also, Brundle did a piece on skysports.com entitled "It's Only The Moaning That's Boring..." which is getting mostly negative comments, all about the opinions of Monaco and its place in F1.

Every year, they usually do about 3 races on FOX during the middle of the season, usually the Canadian GP, the USGP(when it was around) and Magny Cours/Silverstone/Valencia or whichever came afterwards. Mainly cuz it was two races in our timezone and our home GP so they could expand to a bigger audience.

Except that it also meant the commentators talked as if everybody was watching F1 for the first time, so you get to hear about how F1 cars have 'paddle shifters'(wow!) instead of gear levers and such instead of which tire Button put on in his first stop.

Practice and Qualifying will be on Speed at the usual times, but if a European race is shown on Fox it's on a delay.

That's what I was wondering about. I'm pretty familiar with Fox's coverage based on their soccer coverage. Its just the pre-race stuff thought right? The in game commentators are usually decent for the actual matches.

I use the bbc player or other unnamed sources to watch F1, don't are for the American Commentators. Only one I thought was decent was Randy Mamola when he did Moto GP.

Also, the NJ track would be so awesome.

Track looks pretty sweet. Several decent braking zones. So many turns as well.

Not only long straights into wide hairpins, but fast high downforce sections that transition to wide hairpins.

Could be really good for passing at multiple points on the track. That blind first corner up the hill is going to be fun.

I'm going to be trying for seats in the turn 12 grandstand when they go on sale.

I want to get a spot at T1 but it looks like those will only be for people who buy the PSL. If I can't sit there then T12 would be fine I guess.

Track does look good. I had my doubts about the esses bit, but it looks like each turn has a unique grade/camber so it should be good to watch.

The esses probably overstay their welcome by at least one full S, but looking good otherwise. Monster back straight. Love the quad apex reverse Turkey turn too.

Wow, thanks for the info about this. Had no idea tickets were going to be up for sale this soon. Sucks that there is no way to get a seat in T1 without that BS PSL they were trying to sell :| T12 it is I guess.
