/brag Edit: Yes, that would be awesome, even though I'd still use GAF heavily. Nintendo needs a community hub.

(and I had to do the LDR thing for a while earlier on. It can definitely work.) |

I truly believe Nintendo is making its best effort to get third party support on Wii U. Iwata has been openly talking about the need to have a huge "western" hit on their platforms, specifically Call of Duty and full fledged Madden. I also think they he might be hedging his bets that it won't come.
Iwata's comments are often layered, and there is no doubt in my mind, Nintendo wants a huge, "Western" IP that they publish and is exclusive. A game that ignites US sales charts the way many of their Japan-Only games do over there. And the evidence is mounting that Nintendo is bolstering it's western development. Retro is staffing up for a masterpiece. NST is in full on revival mode. Rumors that Silicon Knights is back in the fold. Ken Tanabe was very forthcoming about Nintendo finding western devs and handing them projects. Nintendo's development footprint is going to be huge. |

Thanks. I mean, it'd be an incredible way to build community. It's pretty obvious that many Nintendo fans are kindred folk. Now imagine one easily-accessible place to congregate. Miis as avatars, accomplishments on your profile page, contests, challenges, mass marathons, live airings of "Let's Play" videos that are viewable via your TV or the uPad, etc.
Admittedly, I've never really been enthralled with online gaming. I'm naturally very weary of it, with the sense that many devs focus on multi-player and think that gimping the single-player mode is somehow more acceptable. But if Nintendo were to go down this kind of community path, I'd be all-aboard. |

This thread has been quite lovely today. Good debate, good discussion, good reminiscing, good prognostications.
Threads about the Wii U, I've noticed, tend to encourage trolls into here. And all of that good stuff gets supplanted. |

PC stats are obviously not very effective since everything that goes into consoles gets crazy customized. But you can at least generally get a baseline performance because 99% of the time improvements are made to make the gpus better not worse.

Not that I'm opposed to different opinions, but "Nintendo doesn't do x" can only be so constructive for so long. --- I also like how we have two shifts in here: tech guys come in for a few hours and discuss, then the dreamers/philosophers among us pick up after that. ;P |

Why is some random developer more credible than developers that post here (like lherre). You're trying too hard to denounce this place. |

Revisiting real quick that Li Mu Bai post that StevieP quoted earlier, he left out one key section that I don't think I saw talked about (I skimmed through most of the posts after that).

Well a couple things - namely the fact that the rv770 is just a very common widespread rumor, not confirmed, and that the cpu is going to be ppc7 based, not an actual ppc7. With that in mind, there'a ton of leeway from one end of the spectrum to the other as to what the parts will end up being. It can't be stressed enough that these are custom parts, not generic PC parts, so more powerful and less powerful chips are both possible.
