Huh, I had no idea they were making this. May 5, that's not too far away.

The battle animations do look a bit clunky. It's like they're just standing there and swinging around for the most part until someone dies. I feel like it needs more impact and meatiness on hits and parries.

Funny how I always imagined this series as an MOBA/RTS/4X type hybrid whenever I imagined it as a game.

Alternatively, a Dynasty Warriors Empires-like game set in the Song of Ice and Fire universe would be awesome too.

...I just like upgrading my keep :P

Is this game based on the first book only? If it's based on the entire "Song of Ice and Fire" series of books, then why name it after the first book?

they've mostly made rpg/strategy stuff on pc. picked up the game of thrones rights before the tv show :) I think they pretty much live on the cycling manager games and make all the tabletop rpg and strategy stuff for fun. hehe. blood bowl must have done pretty well for them by now as well. got quite a few titles in development. http://www.cyanide-studio.com

Because it's the name of the television series.

I'm intrigued.

Yeah pretty sure it is. No way they developed all that. I have no problem with this really, if it helped them just focus on story and locations, it would make a better game.

What's the overworld like? Westeros is enormous. Are they going to shrink it down or have isolated areas? I'd guess the latter.

I'm pretty sure I read that they scored the licensing from HBO. It's using the same logo, all the locations look the same. Or are you saying that it's an original story?

It bothers me to see a man in full plate armor at the beginning sitting in what looks to be a wooden chair. I bet their swords make that stupid unrealistic sound when they pull them from their sheathes too.

Actually Cyanide Studio is the one who got the license to Game of Thrones not Atlus (they are just publishing it..think of Demon's Souls),and it was mostly because Cyanide got it way before the show become a big hit.

If it is identical to Dragon Age Origins (complete with the eye rollingingly bad combat) with a good story, Im still interested.

Though, its release is close to Dragon's Dogma...a game that looks strangly creative and possibly great.

Yeah,Diablo 3 will destroy it, they need to release it after season 2 ends (mid June? ) it's best since the fans of the show will need more.

This wasn't on my watch list before but now it is creeping up into "must buy" status for me. I love that old school Bioware style PC RPG combat. They need to push the release date back though. I'd honestly consider pushing it back to the fall. A licensed title in the fall may not do poorly on the PC. I'll be all over this shit if it ends up in a Steam sale.

George R.R. Martin “largely happy” with Cyanide’s Game of Thrones RPG

Quote:
“The entire game was written by Cyanide, including the plot and character dialogue. But I did have creative input at many points during the process,” Martin confirmed.
Quote:
Martin isn't concerned or worried. "'Worried' is too strong a word, but of course I want fans to like it," he confides. "[Cyanide] have put a lot of hard work into the game, and a lot of passion as well. But nothing pleases everyone, and you can't let that control what you do." That's not a sign of abdication, though. More so it is a level of preparedness that his years of content creation have allowed him to be comfortable with. "Not everyone will like the game. You do the best work you can, and hope the world responds. I've sampled the work Cyanide has done, and I'm largely happy with it. I think many of my fans will share that feeling."
Quote:
This is meant to be as much of a benefit to the player as it is to the writer. In order to be canonical, gamers would be forced onto a narrative rail so as not to break anything Martin has built in the longstanding series. "That would certainly make a game less fun," Martin admits. "Players need to feel like their decisions matter." The similar can be said for writers, whose creativity can stem from the ability to remain independent of the actions of others. "Games can be a really fun way to interact with a literary world, but I can't imagine any writer wants to then be shackled to events or decisions made in the game."

But that doesn't mean the link between Cyanide's Game of Thrones and Martin's series will be held back. "If you get that flavor right, then people feel like they're in the world you created, even when they're not necessarily inside the same stories the books tell." For Martin that has always meant using his words to paint a detailed picture of his creations, often to the nth degree. From visual aspects like the design of sigils and swords, to the development of language dialects, marriage traditions, and even hospitalities, his worlds are as vivid in text as they are on a television screen.
And he was into Homeworld (Relic)so he is officially cool.

Quote:
"Probably the most recent video game I played heavily was Homeworld, which I enjoyed a lot even though I believe I died about a hundred times."

original source of this story if you want to read the entire thing.

The combat looks closer to Dragon Age: Origins than DA2 was, which is pretty amusing.
