from wikipedia

In August 2010, Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed an interest in reprising his role as Doug Quaid until October 2010, when it was officially reported The Hollywood Reporter that Colin Farrell was on the top of the short list, which included Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender, to play Doug Quaid, the role Arnold Schwarzenegger played in the 1990 version

Ok, defense force. Hey, here's an idea. Call it "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" instead if it's more faithful to the original material!

Wholesale. I don't know, make the name shorter. Not short like John Carter, though.

Why bring up bad relations if it's nothing like the original movie?

Trying to get a new audience, when the name will ONLY resonate with people who've seen the original?

C'mon 6 words in a title. You lost the under 18 crowd after 3 words.

Avatar has one. Titanic: one, Aliens: one. Inception: one. Hunger Games: 2

Just call it Mars

I just find Wiseman to be more worthless than Paul Anderson when it comes to making movies for his wife to star in, and it results in movies less entertaining than the output of Paul Anderson and Brett Ratner combined.

His next movie should just cut to the chase:

They're remaking all these Verhoeven movies when they should just be throwing all the monies at Verhoeven to come back. Black Book shows he can still make good movies.

Verhoeven and Neuemeier should have been given TRANSFORMERS.

Probably SUPERMAN, too.

I'm just glad there're a lot of sci-fi movies this year. The potentially bad (this) and the good (Prometheus), I'll watch them all.

In a perfect world I can imagine this being remade with Arnie, Rambo 2008 style. More violence, re-orchestrate the goldsmith score, and finally more one-liners.

In that same world, a Cameron Terminator movie comes the same year. Also starring Arnold, the machines have taken to driving gas-guzzling sportcars while hunting endangered animals.

Finally, the year ends with Carpenter's opus - Escape from Earth. Kurt Russel escapes the planet alone in a ship with all its priceless treasures, leaving the rest of mankind to vaporize in a global nuclear extinction event. Arnie would also be in this movie

But remaking a Verhoeven film is a big no no (yeah fuck that Robocop remake from the elite squad dude, those films aren't even that good). And Len Wiseman is shitty so...meh.

I will again say that if it skews closer to PDK's material and is thus different enough from Verhoeven's and isn't in fact just a silly retread, then I will be all for it.

I'm not a fan of remakes for the sake of remakes either, but this is a more accurate adaption of Philip K. Dick's novel as opposed to a remake of the film. That makes it entirely valid. I'm game.

The original Total Recall was (and is) much as it seems somewhat everyday and very tangible. A lot of ugly and dirty surfaces, messy blood stains, Arnold slightly messed up and not-so-superior hero.

That teaser trailer (lol) in turn seems to be the traditional sterile modern scifi with floating holograms, the actors' faces are not pretty, and it seems that everything happens at the Apple Store.

And PG-13 rating? yeah no thanks.

Did the book have wolf and bat like monsters? I could have sworn that one of the challenges on the monster makeup show had them creating those monsters for this movie. Weren't all the aliens actually just mutants?

Jerry Goldsmith's score to Total Recall was such a key ingredient to what made that movie awesome. I can't wait to see what third rate hack they employed to Inception horn his way through the new movie.

Big fan of PKD here and have to admit... skewing closer to "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" would really not be a good thing.

It's a short story that basically ends about ten minutes into the plot of Total Recall. This is one screen adaptation that far outshined the source material and expanded on it transcendently.
