that's really sad. definitely one of the most under-appreciated writers around, his long pieces looking into stuff like starbreeze or the development of lmno were so good. best wishes to him going forwards, hopefully another outlet recognizes his talent.

Sad to hear it. His cover stories, as great as they were, never really hit after 1up collapsed after Ziff dropped them.

1up does release podcasts, 8-4play and Retronauts are still done on a regular basis and awesome

Well we live in free society. I never said I don't like Matt. He and I have very similar taste for games however whenever I tried to listen to him on podcasts he was so boring, cynical. I wish him the best

I honestly don't know who he is, but Jack DeVries just posted on Twitter that his 6-year stay at IGN has come to an end. So maybe the layoffs are not 1UP-specific?

Absolutely. He always seems well prepared and focused in his interviews. He's a professional, which is more than you can say about 90% of his peers. I'm sure he'll land on his feet.
