TOULOUSE, France (Reuters) - A man on a scooter opened fire outside a Jewish school in Toulouse in southwestern France on Monday, killing two children and one adult, a police source said. Five people were injured in the attack, which occurred as students were arriving for morning classes at the Ozar Hatorah school, a city official said. The attack comes after three soldiers were killed in two separate shootings in the same region by a man who escaped from the scene on a scooter. French Interior Minister Claude Gueant broke off a visit in northeastern France to head for Toulouse, the police source said. French media reported that security was being tightened at all Jewish schools in the country. About 50 investigators are already looking into the killings of the two soldiers. Police said on Friday that the same weapon had been used in both incidents. BFM TV news channel said that the gun used in the attack at the Jewish school was of the same caliber as that used in the soldiers' shootings. While I don't know either way - But them being of North African origin usually matters very little to Islamist fundemantalists, so that's not really an argument for either cause. We'll have to wait for more info.

How about motive? He's making a statement based on the fact that soldiers and Jews are targets for Islamic terrorism.

In this case it's far too early to judge either which way. The attacks on soldiers may not have even been related to this.

The fatalities so far are R' Jonathan Sandler (30) from Jerusalem, his two sons Gavriel and Aryeh (6 and 3 years old respectively) and Miriam Monstango (8). There are several other children in critical condition.

They are saying that there are similarities among the various reported shootings, as in they appear to have been made with the same modus operandi, but there is still not enough evidence to determine if it was the same person, whoever he was.

Assuming that is the same perp, motive is going to be even harder to pinpoint on something because sometimes the perp is both politically and phylosohpically incoherrent (it's a little nicer than saying that he's a nutjob).

Reuters is reporting that ballistics found it was the same gun used to shoot the soldiers, so it's all but confirmed.
