Those detective comics were good, but Mickey's personality was still too clean-cut for me. Donald and Scrooge are more morally ambigious (especially the final parts of The Life & Times of SMD paints Scrooge's morals as rather debatable).

I loved Ducktales. But as soon as I started reading a number of the various Duck comics that were out there? No comparison. Scrooge is one of them original bad-asses.

On that note, I remember reading a bunch of Mickey and various Duck comics in the library back in the '90s, and I would love to read them again. Are they any other bound collections out there besides "Life and Times"? Hopefully, in English? :lol

There's the Life & Times of SMcD Companion, and there are some other Don Rosa/Carl Barks collections too (IMO those are the only Duck writers/drawers worth spending much time on anyway, even though I enjoy some of the Italian Duck comics).

I don't know if I'd call him an anti-hero, but Scrooge in Don Rosa's Duck universe probably has the most complex personality I've ever seen in any of the Duck comics. Especially The Old Castle's Other Secret or A Letter From Home sheds some light on Scrooge's thoughts on family and honour, and his conflicted relations to his siblings. It's probably my #2 favourite story by Rosa, with Life & Times being #1.
