What "Vintage Collections" would you like to see?
#1
So if you don't know, it appears that Sega are now planning to do "packs" of titles for the Xbox Live Arcade and (presumably) the PlayStation Network. This, I assume, is because the XBLA wouldn't be the best place to pump a lot of old games onto (That was Game Room damnit, but that's another story...)
So we have two unofficially announced packs: ![]() A Monster World collection featuring Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World and the long awaited english version of Monster World IV. and a dubious "Alex Kidd and Co." pack featuring Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Revenge of Shinobi and Super Hang-On. With this style of packs being really interesting to me (and also being really annoyed at how awful the box art for these packs are) I went and spent a bunch of time making box art for packs I would / would have liked to have seen on XBLA. ![]() ![]() ![]() I think I did a pretty good job on making these quickly, so I wanted to share them :P But what other types of collections could we see? There seems to be a high chance that Sega will be making Streets or Rage and Golden Axe packs, but what else could we see? And even from other publishers! I'll probably make box art styled for these packs too, I'm pretty bored tonight :P |

Shining Force Collection: SF1, SF2, SF CD, and SF Gaiden 3 (since SF CD contains Gaiden 1 and 2... Gaiden 3 concludes the story).
Of course, I would REALLY prefer SF III collection: all three episodes plus the premium disc. But I've given up hope they'll ever port and re-release those games, and they'd never go through the trouble of translating episodes 2 and 3. EDIT: I think a Phantasy Star collection makes all kinds of sense, too. It might even happen officially, given how often Sega has released compilations of those games. And I'm sure it will be 1, 2, and 4 :/ EDIT 2: While we're dreaming, how about a Panzer Dragoon Collection? PD1, PD2, and PDS. (Ha! Impossible.)

This would be nice. There would probably be licensing problems, though.
Fantasy Zone would be great. If they do though, they should just port the PS2 collection. It had a lot of improvements (like adjustable difficulties, etc.) I really wouldn't like to do without. |

Very nice, could you make a Panzer Dragoon Saga - Shining Force III - Dragon Force pack too?

That would be a good one, they'd have to localise SF Gaiden 3 though, but as they did do that for MWIV it might be a realistic possibility.

The only ones that jump to mind are Sega Saturn games and those aren't likely to be bundled together for XBLA. I mean, Panzer Dragoon 1 + 2 + Saga would be a good 3 or 4gb, just for Saga alone. Maybe 1 and Zwei? That'd probably a gig or less.
NiGHTS + Christmas NiGHTS would be cool, too. Heck, just port the PS2 version. Ooh! I know! What about Ecco the Dolphin? 1, 2, and, I dunno, Ecco Jr. Global Gladiators + McDonald's Treasureland Adventure + uh... McKids? Legend of Oasis + Beyond Oasis. Honestly, what I would find most interesting in this situation would be to go beyond merely Sega games and get like, a double pack with the SNES/Genesis versions of the same game together. Like Aladdin, or Sparkster, or Jurassic Park, where the SNES/Genesis editions were entirely different games. Unfortunately there are a number of barriers keeping that from happening, Nintendo's own unwillingness to allow SNES games to appear on any platform except one bearing the Nintendo logo being first and foremost. Edit: Oh! Oh! Astal + Clockwork Knight + Super Tempo

Dynamite Deka "Trilogy"
Sega Ages version of Dynamite Deka Dynamite Deka 2 Dynamite Deka EX: Asian Dynamite EX would make the collection a must have because it never had a home port. Virtua Cop Trilogy It could only be either on the Wii or PS3 because I'd have no clue how the 360 would even handle a lightgun game. And I'm pretty much ready to stop giving Dave & Busters money to play VC3. A Port of the Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box It sells itself. Last Bronx, Fighting Vipers 1 & 2 and Fighters Megamix Last Bronx and Fighting Vipers 1 should be a combination of the JP Saturn release and the Sega Ages version for each of those. Fantasy Zone Complete Collection Another one where the work has been done for SEGA already. |

Good to know you like them. I made a Shining Force (1, 2, CD) and Shinobi (Shadow Dancer, Revenge of and III, as the original already exists there anyway :P). It's weird that the Shinobi boxes in America are generally pretty good to use, but Shining Force are awful, so I tried to use the Japanese boxes.
![]() I then also made two collection packs of stuff that I love from the past but have a far less likely chance of ever appearing :) ![]()

Great covers Rlan! They really outclass the boxes sega has so far, and really let the art shine. Send those things to Sega, and shame them into upping their game! ;)
As far as collections I'd like to see: Import Collection: Pulseman, Alien Soldier, and... I don't know. (I'd prefer the Yu Yu Hakusho Treasure game, but licensing might be an issue. I'd pay extra though! Love that game, would LOVE to have it with online play.) Golden Axe collection: Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder (I wanna play this legitimately!), Golden Axe the Duel, and, while we're dreaming, An Up-port of Golden Axe III to Revenge of Death Adder graphical standards. Wolfteam Collection: El Viento, An improved version of Aenet Futatabi, and Maybe the Sega CD Version of Earnest Evans? Valis Collection: Valis 1, 2, and 3. Anyway we can squeeze in Arcus Odyssey? Maybe as a Renovation collection? Arcus, Gain Ground (Released by them in US), and something like Gaiares, or the Genesis version of Master of Monsters? Sega Bomberman: Mega Bomberman, SATURN BOMBERMAN (Really, this is the Bomberman game live needs!) and... I dunno (Maybe Dreamcast Bomberman Online?). Just get Saturn Bomberman on live somehow! Dragon Force Collection: DF1, and the first US translation of DF II! Shining Force 3 COMPLETE: SFIII Scenario 1, 2, and 3, and Premium Disk content. SFIII S1 had me transfixed to the TV when it first came out, and I've always wanted to finish the thing properly... would be so happy with a port + 2 and 3 translations! I'd love that shinobi collection too, as I was a big fan of Shadow Dancer back in the day... would play it whenever I'd see the machine somewhere! |

^^ Would make this Gen best Gen ever, lol. (since it'd be brining current + past classics together beautifully) I wanna hear Noon's Fantastic VA work again! (O_o)
A few more collections I'd like to see, that noone probably cares as much about, lol.: Cyborg Justice.... something?: Throw it in with The Vector Man Games, or... something. One of my favorite Genesis games. Great animation, and a very fun idea of just ripping robot parts off, and attaching them to yourself! There's very little as satisfying as ripping the bosses arms off, only to then pop off his torso, and steal it and his legs. Micronet Collection?: I'd love to have another chance to enjoy Revengers of Vengence, lol. (How could I forget the Shooter Segments the game had, too? RPG FIGHTER SHOOTER!) ![]() I still like a lot of the music of that game, and the RPG / Fighter (Shooter!?) hybrid is such a desired mix... Maybe throw in Heavy Nova + Black Hole assault...?

Whenever an appropriate time to request these comes up, gotta fit them in there :) Still waiting on Vic's Sunsoft/Telenet deal to turn up some XBLA (and I guess PSN) related fruits... Haha, really? I used to love messing with the Pico store demos, but never knew of any awesome import titles. What are some examples of their awesome imports? |
