Should be just a status effect I think from the attack, kind of like blind

Edit: Might potentially be annoying to fight..

At one point at least two of them did. The way their movements slowed down as they were being petrified looked so badass.

I wonder if being petrified is an instant kill? I mean once you're completely solid.

I'm guessing it's something like you shatter if you are hit, but your pawns can heal you out of it or something.

I thought it was interesting how they bailed out on fighting the Drake in the second part of that Nico Nico stream from yesterday. They just quit and warped back to Gran Soren and was promptly greeted with a 'Quest Failed' message, lol. This is the second time we have seen the developers of the game bail out of fighting the Drake, so I really do not think difficulty will be an issue for the most part.

At least the majority of the party yes. When it's actually showing her attempting to knock an arrow and pull her bow she is covered in rock.. getting petrified. As already mentioned the screen fuzzyness and muffling sound is an effect of the petrify. I've seen the player from the stream get knocked down to almost no life and there was none of those effects on the screen at the time.

This is nice actually as it shows there is some serious status effect type of stuff we'll be dealing with. Cockatrice isn't the only thing to petrify people... I'm sure it's not an instant death tho. The potential for cheap death if it was is just insane. (suppose it's our fault for not getting the hell out of the way of the dark black death smoke... live and die and learn i suppose)

I hope you can choose to have it letterboxed or not. I don't like black bars myself, but I know its trying for a more cinematic flare. Most widescreen movies, even on an widescreen tv has those kinda black bars.

I think it's just their solution to sub HD, it's kind of sub HD that way but without the scaling/stretching.

But yeah, it could potentially be annoying I'd get used to it, but I think plasma users are worrying about burn in, so hopefully there will be an option or hope this won't be in the final build.

What I really like about the look of this game is that magic, and other special skills, seem to contrast with the realism of the world. When a maelstrom is cast is really looks like a bitch ass wizard is really putting some effort into a bitch ass skill. Other games have more magic, and more over the top like skills, but there is a hint of minimalism/realism in this game that makes all those skills seem all the more satisfying.

Do we know if the game runs in 1080p, or just 720? Not many games this generation run at 1080p sadly.

I am surprised that you would ask that question when you already know the answer. We're at the end of this hardware generation, so the only platform this would play at 1080P on is the PC.

It's sub HD, it's "kind of" 720p, but minus those pixels at the top and bottom where the black bars are, don't know the actual resolution for it :(, something like 1280x6**?

Well usually at the end of a generation some might expect more spectacular graphics and resolution, since they might push the hardware further, I think last gen we got progressive scan with some games, and 1080i on GT4, this gen we only got worse framerate and resolution over the years, feelsbadman.jpg

I was just thinking it would be cool if they had aerial battles.

Like maybe your own drake that you can fly on. So during a fight you could jump and grab onto a flying drake/monster/whatever then jump off and have your ride pick you up when you're done.

But that's probably not going to happen.

Would be interesting if some of those skills do mix, I am kind of interested in the end game skills and what you could do with them, necromancy would probably change a lot of stuff for the sorcerer, maybe there are things we don't know about for other classes as well.

They haven't talked about new game plus, so I'm hoping they don't miss the potentials with it, imagine the replayability with end game skills.

I'm hoping that you could use the grapple in the air =P

Edit: You could also shoot in the air too, so I think there are some potentials there, not to mention it's been confirmed that your pawns could catch you when you fall, as far as I know

In many vid's that I've seen it looks like you'll be fine without a sorcerer.

I wonder how powerful they are, or just how good the AI is.

It seems like the only thing the mage really has over the sorcerer is healing spells, I wonder if that's worth it enough to miss out on some of the big offensive spells or not. I'll have to play around with everything for sure.

I wonder how it's going to balance out, I think a lot of people have the mindset of mages being a sucky support character with healing spells, so people will most likely be upgrading their main pawn to sorcerer or damage dealer to kill faster, and maybe hire support mages pawns to heal.

But if everyone are doing that there will be no mages to hire in the rift , someone has to be leveling a mage main pawn so it could have high level curative spells, and I wonder how important they will be

Seems like the smart idea will be to make a mage main pawn then so he gets all the XP and high ratings of people picking him up! I know that's what I'm gonna do.

Hopefully the Mage/Sorc AI will be smart and not a liability. Otherwise the players will have to take on those classes. I can't wait to try the damn demo.

Damn, they're really overdoing it with the extra long streams of this game. How many times can people watch the same 2 hours of the intro to the game over and over? I'd think the people who've been interested in seeing that have seen it already.

I'm pretty sure with this newest one they said they're skipping over the tutorial and starting further into the game? That's what it sounded like at least.

Damn, and who thinks they still are not showing enough of this game? The fact that they are showing this much also serves to show how much content there indeed must be. They have been more than generous with pure, unfiltered gameplay. Good on Gametrailers for giving it the much needed attention as well.

hmmm,Sub hd games look really blurry on my HDTV(on both PS3 and 360), I don't ask for 60fps and full 1080p on consoles but they should aim for 1280x720 in the final build, since we got many native 720p open world games ( all Assassin's Creed games and Skyrim are 1280x720).

It won't look blurry because it's not stretching into 1280x720 (16:9), but there will be black bars on top and bottom of the screen, if I understand it correctly

I don't think I'm going to watch the stream, pretty sure this is just for people who still have never heard of the damn game and thinks it's monster hunter :lol

Eh, I'm going to watch in the hopes that there's some more info on the skill system and how progression works in terms of stats/skills that carry over and stuff.

That's really what I want to know right now, besides just being able to see all the skills.

I agree, and I think it even applies to the larger monsters. The fantasy elements really do feel otherworldly, and I think the primitive physics employed in the game help give the skills and magic the punch to make it feel like you're really doing something in an environment and not very obviously just watching light and particle effects like in most other games. It feels more grounded, which is something I wish more games aimed for.
