Some thoughts on the logo, Retro:
  • Clean up the edge on the symbol, it looks very choppy
  • PNG format gives you a bit more space to work in, meaning higher quality possible
  • The mix of the stylized Guild Wars font (based on Eason Pro) with that other typeface works, but there are better alternatives.
Perhaps a sans serif font could look nice, for variety.
Also, in case you aren't already, make sure to use assets from here: http://download.guildwars2.com/Files...set_Kit_HD.zip

Also, with all this talk about logos, perhaps the starting post could do with one as well? I'm writing here as I'm thinking about purchasing the game, but I gotta look up a few things first. And I follow the thread, though I haven't written in it before.

Slapped together a quick and dirty banner just for the announcement.

And the GW2 assets are fine, it's the NeoGAF logo out there that needed tweaking.

Personally i love the white space use in the GW2 art, white, black and red would be awesome in a logo or guild site/forum.

1. Holy broken frames, Batman, quote that.

2. We're limited on color and layout choices because of the forum software used. That said, the software we're using is amazing and has a ton of nice options. It's just that completely reworking the visuals doesn't appear to be one of them (or maybe just not worth it).

Too many people focus on visuals and not enough about the functionality of the forums. Hey folks, it's still a work in progress. Give it some time. Thanks to Retro and Ferny and others that help set up the site to get it going.

I made an example banner for the starting post, if that could become fitting once the game launches:

Quote:
Basic information:
  • The clipping mask is just two shapes from the official asset kit merged.
  • Artwork is marked Rytlock_Charr, is a PSD with four layers, one is partially separated from the mask. It's the Charr to the right.
  • The colour on the text is hexadecimal color ff8b01, an intermediate (red-orange) colour. It's the one used on the "New thread" and "Post reply" buttons on NeoGAF.
  • The typeface for "Gaming Age Force" is Permanent Marker Pro. I think it makes for a nice contrast over the serif font above.
The font colour is there to mark that this regards a NeoGAF guild. However, black (or #202020 as I use frequently) works well also. If not defined by colour, I suppose you could throw in the NeoGAF logo; it could be used as a mask as in Retro's logo, though I would need a much bigger version in that case. And the files I could find weren't that good.

Again, just an example for if something like this could come in handy.

I don´t find the font very appealing, especially the gaming age sub title, somewhat childish.

Concerning the "painted" brush strokes, if they maybe formed a dragon? could be more appealing, then again, they look nice already.

Ill need to be deleted or name changed since autofill took care of my first/last name and I didn't double check ha! Then again it doesn't really matter to me - unless there's another Jack running about there shouldn't be any confusion.

While my full name is up there - feel free to add me on G+ anyone.

For EU gaffers, I opened a dedicated thread to discuss about EU matters over at GAFguild.
I cordially invite you to join there and share your opinions.

In other news, the poll is still running and it will be closed on the 1st August.

I think I'm going to have to stick to the EU servers because of my crappy internet :( Besides I think that if we have even like 20-30 players on the EU servers, it will be enough to make an impact in WvW.

I wouldn't mind having just 20 guildmates, without counting possible friends and non-gaffers, on EU side.
It is ofc preferable to have a very active small group than a large one with many inactive members. Things are also easier to handle.

We still have some time, 3 weeks, to check and gather EU folks.

Poll's results!

I know. I almost wish I hadn't played any of the BWEs so I wouldn't know how great the game is and want to play it all the time now.

The good news in, in 15 hours, we'll be at 19 days left... which somehow seems both incredibly far away and yet somehow better-sounding than 20. Still too damn long though.

Hey is the timer on guild page right...? Seems like it is five hours over, if the servers are going live at 12:01 AM on the 25th.

Edit - Actually the GW2 official home page timer is 7 hours beyond our own, so I guess they plan to wait until noon PDT on the 25th?

Edit 2 - Aha, https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/statu...17628174446592 means their front page is actually dumb, it is 12:00 AM PDT on the 25th, so ours is 5h ahead.

The timer on the GW2 site is supposed to use your system clock, but it's not accurate to the very start of the Headstart, I believe. According to my clock, there are 17 days, 9 hours, 53 minutes and change before the game launches at 3AM EDT (midnight PDT). I would guess the one on GAFGuild.com is running GMT or something.
