Media Create Sales: Week 12, 2012 (Mar 19 - Mar 25)

Out of curiosity what are Vita launch games looking like for shipment and sellthrough ratio? Did publishers pull another 3DS or did they gauge correctly?

but this is not what his argument was though. He was saying COD would be relevant enough to impact the sales for VITA. A game selling 300K in Japan does not make the game relevant enough to impact sales of the system.

And he is saying COD would have more sale potential than FFX HD because of how popular FPS has become in Japan.
From his previous quote alone, i think that COD will impact the sales. It is always the question of "how much would the hardware sell without that/those games".

Unless I get access to White Paper I'm out this year. Maybe someone else wants to try.

Geimin has the data. Starting now, but my titles may not match "GAF standard".

Edit: Screw it, laziness time~ if google mangles any of them, ask by line number and i'll check for you

Missing a few SKU's, but combined SKUs from MC annual charts;
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - 351,240
Call of Duty: Black Ops - 451,806
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - 410,087
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - 472,130

UMVC3 Vita didn't even make top 500. Overshipped or not, SSF4 3DS performed dramatically better relative to the console versions.

Capcom should probably reconsider where they port SFXT...

Well, SFxT Vita is probably nearly completed by now, no reason to not release it now.

Ono mentioned a 3DS port being in the cards and that port should be completed.

The Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken will probably have all the extra DLC characters as well. At least i think so, since it is one more selling point to buy the game again for $40.

I'd rather have a port or a new version of TvC or a version of Marvel. Six button games are sort of annoying on any four face button system but especially on the 3DS. The macros in SSF IV helped but weren't ideal.

There wasn't a PSP revival in 2007.

It had a pretty big increase (+55%) in hardware sales after falling (-13%) the previous year though;

Famitsu Hardware Units;

2004: 339,900
2005: 2,225,800
2006: 1,946,900
2007: 3,022,700
2008: 3,543,200
2009: 2,307,971
2010: 2,890,476
2011: 1,960,177

As I said before, 3DS didn't really hit its stride until the price cut and the year end sales. I don't expect the revision for at least another full year.
If only we knew what form the revision would take. Some have theorized (DCharlie comes to mind) that the revision will have the extra slider and whatever else necessary to act as a lesser Wii U pad. If that is the plan, they'd probably want it this year.

If this coming year is indeed when Nintendo starts targeting a more mainstream audience, they could start by making their handheld look less like a three-tiered brick.

Not sure how a sleeker look would jive with another circle pad and better battery-life, though.

MC is a test of dedication. They split all the versions, which makes lining them back up with the original combined versions a bit of a chore. Now, it's nice to have the breakdowns, but it'd also be nice to have them on the side in order to match up to the weekly charts better. :lol

Famitsu's the same in the weekly charts as in the Top 1000. Famitsu wins?

Ha! Not even close. First week sales and sellthrough make Media Create win by miles.

The weirdest I found is they splitted the 2 versions of Earth Defence Force 2 Portable in top 1000.

I really hope we see a 3ds port. No reason not to port it to the 3ds.

I don't really use it much currently. It's interesting to see, though. Just don't usually spend much time looking at it.

Of 500 games in MC Top 500:

  • 78 sold less than 90% of their first week shipped total.
  • 217 sold less than 120% of their first week total. i.e. They sold the first shipment and a small second shipment, if that.
  • 141 sold more than double their first week shipment. Only 56 of these sold 100K or more LTD, though, so the vast majority of those were things like (BEST) releases that have a 3K first shipment and sell 30K or something.
  • Biggest increase over initial shipment is Tomodachi Collection (Friend Collection), which sold just over 3100% of its initial shipment.

This is actually about the western markets, but given the MC Top 500 we can make a comparison.

2011 releases only.

Over 1 million
Japan: 2
US: 34

Over 510k
Japan: 9
US: 93

Over 100k
Japan: 107
US: 418

http://www.famitsu.com/guc/blog/takapai/11476.html

There's revenue sales but that's more relevant to a US sales-age thread. It also says the Wii sold 628k and the PSP 135k in 2011 in the UK (although I might be misinterpreting it).

Are we expecting Monster Hunter 4 to hit Japan later this year?

Capcom has been releasing at least one new Monster Hunter game since the series debut in 2004. Don't think 2012 will be an exception.

A few options:

1. Monster Hunter 4
2. Monster Hunter Vita
3. Monster Hunter HD
4. Monster Hunter 3G International/Best Price (Online, DLC, Etc)

Well, Tri G Best Price is a given. As for the rest... I honestly have no clue.

The MH4 trailer we saw last year was supposedly only a concept video (although in real time), so I'm going to guess it's still a bit early at this point.

Jeeze they're still making Frontier games for 360? Never knew it had a market big enough to support them.

Then again they're basically PC port expansion packs...

Isn't it pure subscription based too?
Even at 100k, for $10+ a month, they're still making a lot.

What about a Monster hunter 3G WiiU?

BTW I reckon it's way too early for MH4, especially since 3G is still selling well in Japan and there's still untapped sales potential in the rest of the world, so a budget release in Japan + EU/NA localization makes sense to me.
