I hope they try and get the "Italians Do It Better" label a shot at the soundtrack.

Yeah, some people can be quite... irresponsible with their jokes and gifs. It's not just this thread either, best to keep your head in check when going into any movies pertaining to last year/action/overrated/underrated or awesome soundtrack threads. Someone ALWAYS needs to do something like this when Drive is mentioned.

Pretty much. I've liked a few films in the past that are clearly style over substance. But this one just rubbed me the wrong way aside from the opening 5-10 minutes which I enjoyed quite a bit.

People should just check out Walter Hill's Driver. Better movie, same movie but better.

edit: and fuck no to the Italians do it better label idea. No more faux-retro pop shit. Get something more moodier. I don't want to hear some Fast Times soundtrack rejects when he's Tiger Kneeing dudes in the face.

So you didn't listen to Symmetry? Because that was darker and moodier (and the original first soundtrack) than the films actual soundtrack (which was done by Cliff Martinez and had a couple (3 tracks) pop/electro bands from the label on there).

What's Symmetry?

And seriously, the pop thing just worked with Drive somehow but it was done so badly in Bronson. This time he should just stick with something Reznor-ish.

I quite liked the soundtrack to Valhalla Rising. It was minimalistic but kept the tension high.

And I still think Drive is a pretty damn good movie. Forget the haters.

The producers of Drive "verbally" hired Johnny Jewel to do the soundtrack (Which he started and finished) and then the studio decided to go with Martinez because he had more experience. Jewel dropped the album Symmetry as a two disc set with a bunch of material that could have (and may have worked even better) worked with the film.

It's temporarily sold out, but it's only 5 bucks ($7.50 after tax and shipping) and you can order it here http://www.troublemanunlimited.com/store/idib/

It's fucking great

You can actually stream it on Johnny Jewels SOUNDCLOUD page, but it's not track separated, so it's about 2 hours long

I hope it's more like Drive and nothing at all like Valhalla Rising.

And Refn is directing Logan's Run now, huh? Interesting.

I would agree... though if it was like the first... 15 min or so of Valhalla Rising, I will also take that.

(I did like Valhalla Rising... but the ending of the movie left me feeling very underwhelmed. I wanted a bit more action like the beginning before it was over)

I doubt Refn/Gosling Logan's Run will happen. Just seems like one of those long on the back burner projects directors talk up a lot but inevitably fall into development hell.

More violent than Drive? Swordplay? Refn and Gosling? Sign me the fuck up. Hope there's another cheesy ode to 80's pop song thrown in to jive with the rest of the film lol

The movie is about Gosling's character, Julian, who is a retired hoodlum and kickboxer living in Bangkok, who has to get back into the criminal life when his brother is murdered by Thailand police. Here's a more detailed synopsis if you're wanting spoilers (thanks to SlashFilm):
This sounds like the plot of a van damme movie....

I've had the dvd for drive sitting around for awhile now... maybe it's time to give it a shot.

I don't get the Refn hype. His films are entertaining but empty, and his style is stolen.

'Only God Forgives' Will Share The 'Language' Of 'Drive'

Quote:
The reporter on set recorded his thoughts as he looked over storyboards from the film. "As to our exact thoughts on the movie on the floor in front of us, they are simply these: if you liked Drive, you are going to have an aneurysm over Only God Forgives."

Yeah, it's odd since Refn said he was prepping for Venice. They do have more announcements, but I doubt it will make 2012 considering TWC's stacked slate.

Drive was the best movie of the last year, probably of anything I've seen the last few years even, so needless to say I'm very excited to see this.

*edit* Scene from that picture seemed perfectly timed when I was watching it. I guess today when it's hard to find a movie with a scene with silence for more than 2 seconds it would look odd to some. You could probably create ten such pictures out of 2001 though.
