From the spreadsheet, maybe Smiley1790, mightytm24, mechaoctobot, or blahness? (just based on people I've been playing other games with recently)Originally Posted by RaySpencer

I've heard it's simple...so good for a beginner like me?
Bang! seems kind of interesting. Has anyone played it?For the OP Astro:
Bang! / BGG Link / Appshopper Link
Food Fight / BGG Link / Appshopper Link
I am.
Also, why isn't Food Fight in the spreadsheet?
I got it, but Im still mildly confused about it
Couldnt find you guys on my list (coulda swore I had you on there smiley) added you guys though!
edit: just noticed you guys are listed under your real names, luckily search works!
Don't know if this is overthinking it but I kinda like it even for my own selfish purposes.
Or maybe we could rank them or something? I dunno, I like where your headed though. sounds like a good idea.Is this a crazy idea? So we all know everyone who has X'd a game is up for playing that game. But what about if you underlined the X for games you are dying to play and want invites to at all costs? Like I would be totally down to play TTR Pocket, but I am DYING to play Tigris & Euphrates. And I'd like to know about any others who are too.

Also, I think I fucked up the game. It said ready on everyone so I started, but only astro came into the game, haha.
Bang! seemed pretty solid to me ... if somewhat simple for my taste.Originally Posted by Got the Shakes

check out the FREE '4th of July' version, it will give you a very good idea

note that the full version goes on sale constantly
How do pure GC invites work? I feel like I have been fucking them up too. I just invite people in T&E and then hit start but that has yielded nada. Do you have to wait at the invite screen and NOT hit start? Gah so jank.Originally Posted by RaySpencer

I got the T&E invite through GC, same with Eradicate, and have started my games, now waiting for other people's turns :(How do pure GC invites work? I feel like I have been fucking them up too. EDIT: Finally my carc update is done downloading! Yay!
I'm trying. Also, how exactly does trading work, that's the one thing I'm still not sure about. Do BOTH commanders have to be in the city OF the resource that you want to trade? Or can they be in any city together to trade any resource? And how does it work with the logistics guy...Yes, yes it is. I can mostly figure it out but I've played Pandemic like 30 times so it's pretty easy to have a feel for it.
Default rule is both in same city and you have to trade the city card you're in. There's actually a little rules link in the top right that mostly covers it. Logistics guy gets to ignore the rule about being in the card city and can just GIVE (but not take) any card to people in his city.I'm trying. While I'm at it:
-Transport Pilot is good at moving people around. I like to use him to move the assault commander to hotspots. Even better he can move team members to other team members (including himself) for just one action. This can be great for trading cards due to the limitations described above.
-Research analyst stabilized with 4 instead of 5 (good to give her cards then)
-Assault commander defeats ALL hordes in a city with one action, so good to send him out to contain cities.
-Engineering expert builds airfields. Put them either by hotspots or in an area where people might need to meet up to trade a card.
hth!
Thanks! One last thing - what's the advantage of playing with less Commanders, isn't a good variety always better?Default rule is both in same city and you have to trade the city card you're in. In Pandemic (and I think this too) the advantage is you start with more cards and also have fewer players to spread the cards amongst. The central challenge of the game is getting five of a single color to one person so it's tougher with more. At least that's how I feel about Pandemic (not that the difference is HUGE).Thanks! Edit: And the retina update has made Carcassonne chug for me. Going to try a restart, hope that helps.
I've been playing Boot Camp mode to learn the ropes instead of Draft, which gives you a random (shitty) hand instead of building your own. I'll have to switch that now that I kind of know what I'm doing.
I hook my phone into the company lan through an ad-hoc wireless dongle as 3G is very flakey.
Some apps have a problem in that they use ports that the firewall blocks (iMessage doesn't work).
It looks like Ascension is one of these. I tap the online button and it hangs then quits.
I just wish it had the europe and Swiss maps in pocket. It would be nice to play those too. I bought the iPad app, but have ponied up for those yet, just the 1910 one since its so cheap.Picked up the Ticket to Ride Pocket expansion. Ray sent me an inv and I forgot while slightly flawed the implementation is damn fun. For .99 why not -- in tabletop 1910 is absolutely a necessity. Sent out one inv as well to some people on the spreadsheet who had indicated they played. Hope it works since it's GC-based. :p
Yeah you can't play async on the iPad one right? Still glad I got it though even for local play. Good quick fix for game night.Originally Posted by RaySpencer

/vent mostly aimed at GAF and not this thread specifically
I've created a dummy gmail account for Caylus invites superrobot.caylus (guess the rest)
because I think thats the only way you can invite someone to a game.
Or can you use GC nicks?
I think the firewall is going to have a problem here too.
Nah, literally everyone here plays Carc I think. Plus I guarantee at some point you'll discover another great board game thanks to this thread, instead of it being buried to languish in the megamegathread. Also the Carc thread had gotten pretty quiet, so I see this as a big reinvigoration for Carc as well.Originally Posted by Mike Works

Props to all those involved in setting up the thread and the spreadsheet, awesome work.
Since we're both learning, maybe I can set some time aside soon and play a quick game. Or, is it async?
Yeah, no async. which sucks, I would love iPad retina async TtR.Yeah you can't play async on the iPad one right? Still glad I got it though even for local play. Good quick fix for game night.
:( ! I generally agree about the whole community thread/forum tab but man, I was just thinking earlier last night that I love this thread! Its getting me interested in games I normally wouldnt give a shit about, and its getting me multiplayer matches in games I was probably never going to get around to playing.Originally Posted by Mike Works

There is something to be said about how so much of GAF is now split up into small communities, but with how big its gotten over the past 7+ years Ive been here, it kinda just needed to happen. we used to be a small town, where everyone knew everyone, now were a big city, and we have to create our own smaller communities within the city.
I cant fucking believe ive been coming to this place for over 7 years now :'(
Beer doesn't work when it's down to two people. Can't remember if it's that it doesn't work at all, or just doesn't bring you back.Originally Posted by InaudibleWhispa
Just played a game of Bang! against the AI. I've only played it twice in real life, but doesn't the beer bring you back to life if you lose your last bullet? The renegade killed me and won instantly when I had a beer in my hand.
Note that only Beer is rendered ineffective at the end, Whiskey will still restore HP, but I don't think you can have it 'hidden' for a last minute revive like how beer is used. This card lets a player regain one life point - slide the card so that one more bullet is shown. A player cannot gain more life points than his starting amount! The Beer cards cannot be used to help other players.
Beer cards can be played in two ways:
· as usual, during your turn;
· out of turn, but only if you have just received a hit that is lethal (i.e. a hit that takes away your last life point), and not if you are simply hit.
Example. A player who has 2 life points left, suffers 3 damages from a Dynamite. If he plays 2 Beer cards he will stay alive with 1 life point left (2-3+2), while he would be eliminated playing only one Beer card that would allow him to regain just 1 life point. He would still be at zero!
Important note: Beer cards have no effect if there are only 2 players left in the game.
